Just saw the review again ...and wana praise it again...very very nice review ...specially the data regarding off center hits ...I would say that's the best way to judge the forgiveness of club...almost no one does that in the review, which is absurd...I really appreciate your great effort ...thanks a lot
I traded my Ping irons in on these irons plus the 3w and 4w hybrids and I really like them, I will say for me it took a couple of rounds to get used to them but after that my game has improved, I'm a slow swinger at 85mph but it feels smoother than my Ping irons. They definitely get up in the air that's for sure.
Actually you can find these going back many years. Adams made the Idea Tech which use to this day. But you can research the Wilson Launch Pad, Cleveland Launcher, Tour Edge High Launch, a Cobra model that I can’t place. And if you want to go back as far as I can remember, there was a Browning model and in the 90s there was the Spaulding Executive XL. There is massive more tech in them now but the idea has been around a long time.
i may be in the minority ... but i really like these irons... i'm currently playing the cobra T-Rail with graphite shafts... had to send two irons back for reshafting because of a splintering issue where it enters the hosel. after watching your demo, i have to try these out. One issue you brought up about the shape kinda worries me though. you mentioned they may be a bit diggy from the fairway. I'm not a picker and i guess it's just something every golfer must find out for themselves with everyone's delivery being different. anyway great review.. i really enjoy your demonstration of location of strike and yielded forgiveness. just delicious content .
Most interesting observation for me, was the middle of the face not being as hot as many other GI irons. Thoughtful due to the fact there should be no “hot spots” comments with these. That said, I’m not quite ready to play an entire bag of hybrids…another well done review dude!
Appreciate it bud 👍, these are a very interesting iron with some intriguing findings. I straight away after the review filmed the JPX923 Hot Metal vs Stealth 2 HD irons to showcase the distinct differences. Video to follow soon 👍
I tested these but my Tour Edge E521 irons which are very similar, outperformed them. Love them. The underdog can very easily get overlooked. And they don't make it easy to get hold of them here in the UK sadly. But they are a delight to game
I’m probably in the age demographic for the Stealth HD (age 65) but not necessarily in the player demographic (5 handicap, driver swing speed of 96). I just want predictable distance and dispersion given expected mishits. I’m currently playing player’s distance irons and I’m looking for more forgiveness, not distance. Watching all of the TH-cam videos, (this channel obviously the best), I decided to try out the HD’s. I ended up buying them with the stiff steel shaft. Yesterday, I finished my fifth round with my new Stealth HD irons and shot even par for the first time this year. I’ve also hit around 250 range balls during this same time. It took me a little effort to get used to the HD’s. I would call them left biased vs draw biased and the faster I swing the more they want to exhibit this. I’ve learned to aim at or just right of my target, swing smoothly and trust that the ball will not fly right. I can fade them if I need to. Yesterday, I had to hit a low draw around a tree with the six iron and it was pretty easy to do. From a forgiveness perspective, they perform exactly as advertised. They are very forgiving especially where I wanted (low and/or toe hits). Fortunately, the ball flight and distances matched up very closely with my previous irons. I do like the sole shape; curve heal to toe and front to back. This works great for side hill lies, shots out of the rough and playing the ball back in my stance. They are also easy to hit out of a fairway bunker. The feel and sound are very acceptable. I played a round with a friend who has the Halo irons and tried them out on the driving range. The feel and sound of those were not to my liking. The Halo’s are a very different club vs the HD’s. I plan to keep these HD’s in my bag.
Very thorough, data driven review. I could use the forgiveness offered with these. I normally play 1 degree upright and it sounds like I could go standard with these. I’d love to try them to see how the short irons look and perform.
The best way to translate the correct lie angle would be to understand what lie angle you need, say 62.5 degrees with a certain length 7 iron. That way you can easily then convert any individual manufacturers own specification adding or removing lie 1 degree for every half an inch in length with their own version of their standard lie angle 👍🏻
These irons are crazy fun to play...almost 2 clubs longer than my apex edge pro irons (which I cannot ever give up). And the irons are not juiced lofts, only .5 degree stronger than the p790
Hi, great review, thank you! I'm actually going for an iron fitting in 3 weeks, and these are very much on my radar! Being a mid- handicapper, heel strikes are my absolute nemesis, so studied your figures with great interest!! I'm hopefully going to also test the Wilson and Cleveland usual models, ie. GI irons, so itching at the bit to trial them all! Bearing in mind I game, 4, 5, 6 and even 7 Ping hybrids, I'm very much looking forward to the results with these irons!! I'm going with an open mind, but I feel these are very much attractive looking irons..😛
Hi Andrew, bear in mind in the fitting that these are draw biased irons and will want to get the ball going left. Also the lie angle of these irons at standard feel a few degrees more upright than standard 👍
@@AskGolfNut Hmm, my current Mizuno MP20's are 2 degrees flatter than standard, so goodness knows how I'll find them on the day lol!? All I know is my short iron play full shots is APPALLING to say the least, so any help I can get will be hugely appreciated..!!👍
Hi Jay.....I am seriously thinking of swapping my regular stealth irons for the HD stealth irons.....getting old and swing is slowing down... your thoughts ? cheers from Canada
Hi mate, thanks for the question. If you are looking for some additional help with getting the ball launching and also the help off of miss hits that they obviously give then absolutely yes I would want to give a High Launch option a test. Many people have had a relative game transformation going to a more hybrid style head. I would never blanket people with an absolute but I'd definitely say giving an option like this and others is well well worth a test if you can 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If you are correct about the off centre forgiveness and the minimal drop off compared to the sweet spot, and hence less north/south and left/right dispersion, then these are the irons the knowing golfer is looking for, forgetting other aspects like draw bias, spin, etc..
You are potentially spot on there. All manufacturers are still trying to make the middle and outer edges as fast and forgiving as possible. What TM have possibly done by seemingly dumbing down the sweetspot is create a golf club that performs very much so the same from every part regardless.
Just got these. I upgraded from the 1999 Supersteel Burners, to these irons. I gained 20 yards on every club 5-LW. and I don't dig these irons on the fairway, they hit high and long, and with the draw bias, I hit slightly draw shots with no swing changes.
Hang on a second... That club looks like it is adjustable. I've never seen a Stealth HD Iron that is adjustable, none of the available marketing images show them as being adjustable as far as I know. Is this some kind of special model Stealth HD iron?
@@AskGolfNut Thank you so much for answering! I understand, that makes sense! I was a bit worried because I have considered buying the Stealth HD irons for a while and Seeing the adjustable version made me unsure as to whether or not your review was actually about the same clubs as the ones I've been considering, but you've just eliminated all of my doubts and I have now ordered a set of these irons and I'm super stoked to try them out! Thank you very much for a great review and for helping me decide on my next set of Irons, and thanks again for taking the time to answer questions on a more than one year old video! :D
@Bushido_90 you're very welcome, I always try and give back to as many viewers as possible. If you have any other questions I'm running a Live Stream Q and A this evening at 7pm UK Time, happy to answer any further ones you may have 👍🏻
Hi I’m Barry, I use a set like this switching from Ping G420 to Adams Idea Tech with Miyazaki Fubuki shafts. I gained about 10 yards and more consistency. I went from 15.7 to 13.7 hcp. last year and think I can do better.
Hi James, there are eleven clubs in the bag (excludes driver, maximum distance fairway wood or hybrid, and putter) that need to be precision clubs for exact distances and good gapping between these clubs. For modest swing speeds, each of these eleven clubs need to have maximum carry distance for the total distance wanted for that club in order to hold greens more easily. So if this Taylormade Stealth HD gives you the same 120 yards total but gives you more carry than your current 7 iron, then it is a better functioning golf club for you.
Well Done for noticing....... you are the only person to have noticed so far. I think its because people assume its right as it came out when the Stealth 2 series of woods did. Well Done for noticing, gold star 👍
@@AskGolfNut I like them but I'm a little dude-- only 5'2" so if I used mens I have to cut the shaft 1 inch!! so wonder if it would change the stiffness!! I would need senior stiif, -1 inch, and 3.5 degree flat!
@huygmail I think Taylormade could get very close in custom fit spec. They would butt cut not tip cut so although bend profile would be affected, it would be much less. 👍
Avg golfers will benefit greatly from using game improve clubs like this. Let's put our ego in the golf bag and hit better shots and score lower aka play faster and have more fun
@@AskGolfNut I feel they are like the original rescues. Iron shaft and a big head. Great in the longer irons if you just think of them as a rescue/hybrid
Unbiased review? He was looking for every excuse to bury this club and his first 3 shots were with in 15 foot of the pin from 170 yards. Seems to me the club is doing exactly what it was designed to do. As someone who fades every shot I will 100% go hit these and consoder them my next set.
I think absolutely it was unbiased, especially if you think I was looking to "bury it" and I show just how good it performs... 🤦 I like how people think reviewers have to be biased towards a certain point of view... That's why I give club head data so the clubs performance can be objectively shown. I think the HD is a very very good option for certain golfers to use/demo 👍🏻
These are the first “hybrid” irons I would consider trying - the Launchpad, Launcher, T-Rail don’t look anything like an iron. Every review of these, they just go straight 🤷
Tman average pga and lpga 6-7i data indicates a well fit shaft averages 1.9-2.0 yds CARRY per mph…@ 85 shld carry ~ 170; 90….180..close but not that good…
