    We still sell a ton of these. Thanks for making the video. I've had one on my 7.3L for 8-9 years.

      Probably a good idea to upgrade your battery cables too. Over time they get corroded on the inside and don't carry the voltage well and you'll shorten the life of your new starter(s).

    For anybody looking at these. I put it on an early 99 F250 2WD and it fit perfectly. It's heavy as all but it clears the crossmember by a little less than 1/4"

    Just replace mine with a premier gear . Denson knock off, couldn't believe how fast it starts my truck. Only $117 on amazon. 30 minute swap. Couldn't be happier.

    thanks for posting. would have been cool to have a short video of the engine cranking before and after to show the difference between the stock unit and this denso.

    I went to Napa and bought a rebuilt stock starter. Spins the engine over like a top! It didn't have a gear reduction when new and doesn't need one now. If your 7.3 is spinning slow, your brushes are likely shot. Nothing wrong with the stock starter at all.

      I'm sorry. I misspoke. the stock starter IS a gear reduction unit. It has a planetary gearset.

    The issue is the starter length. The starter hit my crossmember so I hit it with a 4" grinder with a flap wheel. Also I screwed a long cap head screw in from backside and put a nut on it, then you can use the original nut on the solenoid wire made it so much easier.

    There's also a muffler coupling right there where the two sides come together and dad is leaking on my truck and I didn't realize it right onto the starter cell annoyed and I went to turn the truck on after a short trip to the store and the starter was overheating super super hot just something to watch out for

    Honestly,the Chinese knockoffs work just fine. Perfect and almost mandatory in cold weather climate.As most with diesels know, a good hard quick crank is whats needed on a diesel.

    Are you still happy with your Denso starter? Considering replacing mine with Denso...
    Mine is on a van with 7.3 diesel. My auxillary battery is attached to the frame rail under the van and the negative battery cable from the auxillary battery is connected to the lower left mounting bolt of the starter, which is eliminated with the Denso starter...

    • @superdutysandsilver5039
      @superdutysandsilver5039  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, very robust starter. I would also suggest having a good, solid, strong, set of batteries. Great combo!

    • @Ziji-LetYourSoulShine
      @Ziji-LetYourSoulShine 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I have fairly new interstate batteries.
      I just cannot figure out what to do about that 3rd mounting bolt that is eliminated with the denso. The negative cable from the auxiliary battery is attached to that 3rd bolt. If I put the cable on the upper bolt, it will be laying across the solenoid on the starter. If I put it on the remaining lower bolt, it ends up tightly stretched across the bottom of the starter motor...

    • @superdutysandsilver5039
      @superdutysandsilver5039  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine wasn't set up that way; all the electrical connections attached to the corresponding connections on the new starter. So you are saying it's an extra cable from an aux battery? If so, sounds like you just need a place to ground it. Could you drill a hole in the frame and ground there?

    Is your truck a 4x4. I am struggling to get mine to mount in the space. Sounded like you might have a 2 wheel drive there or 4? Is any trick to rotating the starter to go in. I have the cables extended and somewhat loose. Any tips appreciated. I wish mine went in as easy as all these other fellows. Should the wires be snugged down enough to keep from coming loose and can I get to them once mounted if I need to tighten them back down?

    • @superdutysandsilver5039
      @superdutysandsilver5039  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob, I don’t have this truck anymore. Upgraded to a 2006 from Powerstroke Speciality. As far as the starter, my truck was a 4x4; I don’t remember it being hard at all. If I’m not mistaken, the positive lead was a little tight, but not stretching. Be sure the part number of your starter matches the one in the video. I bought an authentic Denso. I believe I show the part # in the video. Hope this helps. I did have to use a small articulating ratchet to tighten the nut down for the positive cable as it ended up on top the way my starter was oriented.

      @@superdutysandsilver5039 I actually got the darn thing in. Tried to start it and it failed. Replaced the starter solenoid same issue wont start. Battery at 1240 dash lights up and when I completely turn the key over it goes tick a few of. the dashboard light remain on but not much else. Batteries are clean contacts good wires are connected . The next thought is the alternator which I have not tested. I hope it is not one wire somewhere leading to the abyss of the 7.3.

    Did you switch to longer bolts to hold it up there? I switched to this starter and found the stock bolts just weren't long enough to keep it in place. My starter actually came loose with the stock bolts so I had to find longer ones.

  • @jeffreyhesson633
    @jeffreyhesson633 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So my current starter is a 3-bolt mounting starter. Do the two bolt mounting starters work as well? And then you just don't use a mounting hole? That's a little confusing for me. But I guess that might be normal?

    • @JM-sy5qv
      @JM-sy5qv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it covers the third mounting hole. due to design you wouldnt be able to put a bolt in it. just use threadlocker.
