The story telling is what I love most about character design. The way a whole movie played in my head with the swampy gargoyle girl alone!
My main art subject I paint is land/sea-scapes… this is making me think about how I can treat them like characters and give them stories.

I know he's not your favourite but I do love the diver, I think there is a time and place for simpler character designs especially with safety equipment like diving suits and I want to see him lose his mind about this octopus

I have a question, do you jump straight into these designs from the boards as we see it in the video, or do you do other sketch pages or something like that off cam before the video where we see the final designs? :o I loved the art, great video ❤
i sit down with a larger collection of boards, like 5-7, that i think i can probably come with a character for and do some really messy doodling/sketching in my trash sketchbook. i usually am only able to actually make 4 characters, and that is usually the only prep i do before the vid!
