You are good doing this with a G3c because it has a Tenifer finish over the carbon steel so you have a hard outer shell that is corrosion resistant even after the black oxide over finish is removed. A G2c does not have that Tenifer finish over the carbon steel so if the black oxide is removed there is just bare carbon steel that can corrode. Its why I touch up my G2c slide with Birchwood Casey Super Gun Blue.
I think that Tenifer finish goes down a few microns past the metal itself to so as long as you don’t sand the shit out of the gun it’s good and in most cases especially this guys he isn’t gonna get past that tenifer finish
@@johns3153 The matte black G2c slide is made of carbon steel, not stainless. You can get the stainless steel slide version though that is not matte black.
@@rbm6184 wow when I bought it from Cabela's they had this listed under the info The compact frame and the de-horned, stainless steel slide lend well for concealed carry use, On taurus g2c 9mm handgun compact Yet it had a matte black finish
Picking up a g3s soon from a buddy of mine and I 100% am taking some pads to the slide to do this the moment I got hands on it. The wear look is “cool” from use but taking the paint off completely is dope
I own a G3C as well as the GX4 and I don't think I could bring myself to do this modification to my handguns. I will admit it looks good, and I do indeed have some wear around the front of the slide caused by my IWB leather holster. Might be a possible future project if I get up the nerve to actually attempt it.
That does look very cool! I'm surprised I've never seen that done before so thanks for your innovative modification. I saw a couple posts below where guys said you just ruined your gun...but I don't see what you did (since it has a Tenifer finish, unlike the G2C) as being any different from Cerakoting or Hydrodipping it...they all produce some very cool results, as you did too 😉
👍Yeah, agreed. Taurus slide can be crude. My TH40, I put some rubbing compound on bench buffer wheel & spend some time. Clean up w/ acetone or 99% alcohol & blow out well then spray a few coats of satin or semi-gloss clear very high temp engine enamel paint. Basically, sealing the metal then after a few days of cure time I reassemble the slide, make sure ejector operates freely. Not for everyone but a better overall look for me. No scratches either w/ a high quality, very high temp engine paint. Oil, gas… most any kind of cleaner resistant as well. Just my 2¢ brother. Looks good. (SUBd)
I hope you bought some small screwdrivers. Also, you don't have to depress the safety plunger to get the back plate off. Only when you're putting the striker pin back in you have to do that just to seat the striker. I was thinking of doing the scotch bright thing to the G3c I just bought. My finish comes off kind of easy so why not.
Hey man, would you mind giving us an update on your G3C plz sir? Just wondering how the slide has held up. I'm to do the exact same, I think it looks great! You should make more videos, you're good at it!
I really liked that technique with the brilliant, pretty dope, might do it with mine. wasn't happy with your choice of a pen, but glad you used it cause it shows how easy it is to pull out the striker guide
Haha...that was the first thing I did to my G3C..I used a brass brush and it turned out excellent like a tarnished gold... everyone thinks I bought the gun like that and lives it...great minds think alike 👍👍🤙🤙
Just picked up my G3c today and I don't like the finish either. I think I'm gonna do exactly what you did here and polish the barrel to a mirror shine. First I need to put a few hundred rounds through it to make sure it works. Never owned a Taurus before or a hand gun this cheap but for $199 if it works I can't complain. But I definitely like finished look of yours. Thanks for the video!
Very cool idea! The finish on those are the first thing to go anyways! Thinking of getting the same pistol maybe I'll do the same! It's a good gun for the price especially!
I did it before I saw the video, it looks god man and you don’t have to worry about scratches, corrosion , and rust anymore because of the tenifer protection. See some people think the black coating is the tenifer finish, it’s not!! It’s the treated steel underneath the coat.
Good video on a great gun! Where do I order a steel striker guide and a steel guide rod and captured spring? I am going to get out some Scotchbrite pads and go to work.
have you had any issues with big HP ammo ? mine jams every round on 147 grain speer hp. i noticed the feed ramp had a sharp lip on the bottom i polished it off and polished the ramp. still does it on that ammo. 115 grain other brand it is fine. thinking 🤔 got a lemon gun or just the barrel. love these pistols
Ive refused to even test gold dots knowing thats a concern... critical defense runs fine for me so I have stuck with that. The square-er the tip the more it catches for sure
chris settles Not a G3 or G3c slide that has a Tenifer finish over the bare carbon steel. The Tenifer finish is corrosion resistant. However it would affect a G2c slide that has no Tenifer finish so the bare carbon steel slide could corrode.
i just picked this gun up! dam man, how do you handle this little thing?! i feel awkward handling it and my hands are significantly smaller than yours haha
Its perfect carry size for me. Any smaller n I feel like there isn't enough gun in my hand. The 12 is a bit of pinky off but I got an extension on base plate that fills the gap at the range. N I can manage the 12 in carry n draw n handle
Hey fellas! I have gotten use to it, this is my first time with a firearm of this size (I’ve only shot a couple full size handguns) so the initial feel of it threw me off. Safe shooting! ✌️

Love the bare metal with the dark left in the recessed areas, gives it a cool patina look.
I replaced the recoil spring and the striker guard plastics for Lakeline stainless steel !👍😁
I did the same to the recoil spring but I Have to replace the striker guard
Same here, also replaced the firing pin with a titanium firing pin.
I did the guide rod with stainless and the black fluted barrel from Lakeline. Striker guard is next.

You don't have to depress the drop safety. With my g3c i only have to push down that peace and slide the back plate off.

Love it too
That is nice I Wonder what it would look like with the tan bottom I want to do mine just nervous
Won’t this rust quicker without the finish? Still looks badass I might try it so it matches my sd40ve
No it won’t. The tenifer is bonded to the metal, not the finish. Show me an example of rust forming where the finish wears from normal use. 🤔
I think im gone try that
So it’s forsure safe for my g3c
I just did the same thing to mine.. It's more of just a dark grey gunmetal look.
And also you can get a punisher back plate for it too

Not at all keep it oiled
