    So glad you checked out RP and Dr. Mike Israetel. I put the link under one of your shorts last week. I watched all of his vegan content, it is VERY good. He is not vegan but is very supportive of people who are. I am 12 years vegan and was vegetarian before that since 1971. Sixty-four year old female vegan who lifts weights, does HIIT Zone 4 & 5, martial arts 4-6 times per week. I LOVE Unnatural Vegan! Keep up the great work!

    1:16 - as a Welsh speaker, I see "saladddd" and automatically think "SalaTH-TH" with the TH-TH indicating "DZH-DZH" (or w/e) -what I describe to others as the "hard-TH, as in 'this' or 'that,' not the soft-th, as in 'with' or 'both.'" 😂

      Yeah, I kinda agree...After batteling a pretty serious case of 'false nutrition' and 'bad mood' I feel like so many women online say they had it too, when it's just not really true. There's a difference between a struggle and a full on mental/physical illness.

One of my kids came home from school in sixth grade saying he thought he might be depressed .He had never shown any signs of it & it was because they had seen a presentation about it at school. He was over it by the next day.

      @@gabriellemurphy6330 Yes, that's true. If it had persisted I of course would have gotten him help. I just think these concepts can be presented in a way that fosters resilience .That yes, we may get sad but we have these tools to cope with it and heal. Not that we are fragile & damaged & unable to cope with life's struggles. Kid's are still developing their personal identity & are very impressionable.

    I appreciate the diet disclaimer. I have disordered eating. I was vegan for 7 years. It was definitely tied into my disordered eating. I’m 36 and I’m still struggling with it. Of all the mental health help I’ve gotten in my life, the eating disorder treatment was the least useful. I don’t think I ever got diagnosed with anything. I’m currently “addicted” to orlistat. The same doctors who know I have issues with diet and my body image prescribed me orlistat after I gained weight from the intuitive eating program they had me in. I’ve been taking it for almost year now. I have anxiety when I eat without it. I won’t even let anyone tell me my weight when they weigh me but my NP congratulated me for losing weight. My self worth is tied into my weight. It fucks with me so bad when someone comments on my weight or if I have the number in my head.

      I totally feel you. I can enjoy it but most the time it’s a burden. I got used to a formula of bean/tempeh/tofu and rice/quinoa. And veggies on the side as a default easy meal when I don’t feel like truly cooking

  • @therabbithat
    @therabbithat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Everybody does need to look after their mental health and most people will have disordered eating at some point in their life.
    That doesn't mean they have anything diagnosable, to live is to suffer. But I think it's great that people are talking about looking after themselves and others

    8:49 - what's with calling that kind of thing a "smoothie bowl"? It's a fruit salad. Sure, with other stuff besides fruit, but it's a fruit salad. How many times do restaurants of all sorts sell a bowl of meat, cheese, and corn chips on a bed of romaine a "salad"?
    It's a fruit salad with peanuts, yoghurt, and whatever on it. That's what a "smoothie bowl" is.

    • @3vaniamaria

    To the tidbit at the end. It's obvious being obese is bad for you, the problem in getting this message accepted is that
    1) Many people tie their self worth and esteem to appearance, unlike other vices that destroy your health, being obese comes with the most obvious signs, there's heroin chic, there's not really obesity chic. Even smoking is still shown as cool till this day in film. The reason this is important to realize is there's a psychological block here in accepting this information, particularly for women. The question therefore shouldn't be how do we get people to lose weight, or accept that obesity is unhealthy, and instead how do we get people to understand that outside of their own personal psychology, being obese is something they should work on. This is much harder as how do you get someone to see past the psyche blocks in place that make them unreceptive to the information?
    2) Corporations don't make it any easier as they have a vested interest in obesity, every small business owner to big billion dollar corporation relating to food invests in marketing and advertising to make overconsumption of food highly attractive. We can't realistically fight obesity without reigning in this influence in some capacity. How do we do that? Under our current system it's not so clear.
    3) Obesity is also just plain hard to fight. Overconsumption of food is obviously very pleasurable, accessible, convenient, and socially acceptable. It's not realistic to expect people to overcome this on their own, at least not most. This being said without even examining IQ, impulse control, and environmental factors like poverty where health is one's least concern unfortunately.
    Of course a philosophy would be created in response to all these factors to convince people that yes, being obese is beautiful and not something to worry about as this is easier to accept than the daunting task of tackling all the factors aforementioned.
    In an ideal world we'd have socialized measures in place to make active recreation, gyms, dietary guidance, affordable food etc in reach to all people. However this would threaten billions of dollars worth of revenue so is highly unlikely. Unfortunately this philosophy of downplaying obesity and correlating it's concern to "disordered eating," until we find solutions to these problems.

  • @a.agrayson6253
    @a.agrayson6253 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    To your point at the end of the video, eating disorders do often prevent people from losing weight. Anorexia destroyed my metabolism and I've been unable to loose weight consistently since. I had to activately increase my calorie goal and my protein intake to build back my muscle mass to correct what a year of anorexia did to my body ten years ago.
    Eating disorders may not kill us, but it certainly left me in a worse place than simply being fat would have. I'm more obese now than before.

    The video is 3 years old at this point, so I'd be curious to know his current stance now, especially since he is likely came off his crazy stack from body building which was making him have trouble with his mental health.

      @veganforthem76 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is simply not true. You can get enough calories from many sources, including most fruits, and not meet your protein requirements. For instance, 30 bananas provide over 3000 calories and only 38 grams of protein, lacking in most essential amino acids. Of course most vegans don’t eat just bananas, but 3000 calories of fruits, veggies and rice won't do the trick either.
