  • This is the start of a series in which I’m going to review every fly rod I own. I’m going to go bottom to top, starting with this Orvis Clearwater 10’ 2wt.

I like the Clearwater for the price. I’ve fished it back to back against the syndicate and although the syndicate was much nicer I didn’t feel that I was missing a whole lot going back to the Clearwater. Also, a 3wt floating line cast just fine with it! Great video Chris!

Thanks for watching Chevy! I felt the same way about my syndicate. Nicer rod, but didn’t feel I was gaining all that much in strike detection.

How would this do in an 8 weight for giant streamers?

Hard to say. All rods in a series are different. I’ve never fished the 9’ 8wt Clearwater. However form casting other rods in the series, I’d guess it’s going to get the job done, but not be as good as a rod specifically designed for that.
