Bill Cosby is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author. He released several standup comedy records which consecutively earned him the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album from 1965 to 1970. He also had a starring role in the television crime show I Spy (1965-1968) opposite Robert Culp. Cosby made history when he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1966, making him the first African American to earn an Emmy Award for acting. His acting career continued as he starred in the sitcom The Bill Cosby Show, which ran for two seasons from 1969 to 1971. Cosby has been the subject of highly publicized accusations, the earliest of which were said by his accusers to have taken place in the mid-1960s. The dates of the alleged incidents span from 1965 to 2008 across ten U.S. states and one Canadian province

I re-listened to them after this came out and hoped to find the routines dated or something. They're not. They're still so good. I met Cosby briefly while performing with a musical theatre troupe in MPLS. We stood on stage with him while rehearsing how he would be introducing our group to the audience. I recall being so excited by the prospect of meeting him but then struck with how removed he appeared to be in person. I too had been a long time fan of his stand up comedy on vinyl, Fat Albert cartoon, and tv show. I expected the same warmth in person. There was no warmth at all, which didn’t make sense to me as a young fan. The aloof persona makes more sense now.

    • @Mehki227
      @Mehki227 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I remember when his show was originally on TV and a reporter had been allowed back stage to interview him. The only thing I remember about the article was an oblique reference similar to what you're saying. It struck me at the time and all these decades later I can still remember, because I thought hard about it and it made me unsettled about him, but I also recognized that he might be, let's say, "guarded", because he had to be. He was not described as a warm person. That person was on to something. I remember, too, someone wrote an article at the time it was originally on air that the father he portrayed wasn't really loving; that the character belittled and humiliated his children with sarcasm. I think that person was on to something, too.

Remember what Bill Cosby did during the 2003 Emmys? Wanda Sykes was the host, she was working the crowd, and she tried to talk to Cosby. He was stunningly rude to her. Instantly, easily cruel. The footage is around TH-cam.
I never trusted Cosby after that. I lost that "reverential respect" I had for him. Judging by this interview, he seems to weaponize that feeling to bully people in his orbit. Thanks for your analysis, guys.

I personally would work EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of my life to get him the justice he deserves and that would be back in jail for the remainder of his pathetic life. You just don't get to ruin a girl's life and it be business as usual for the druggist/rapist. Camille, I have issues with you too. I know you knew what Bill was doing. I have an album by Bill Cosby. I made sure to watch him in all the TV shows. He made me laugh. It's interesting to me that my mother thought he was a creep and didn't enjoy "The Cosby Show" as I did. I see now that I liked his TV persona, that I didn't know him at all.

Hey, he's someone a lot of grew up with, from his educational programming, to Fat Albert, then The Cosby Show... he was a part of our lives in a way. He's was "America's Father", and he was a heinous monster. It kind of sums up a lot of what this country has done since the beginning, and that's part of why it's so messed up.

I've always loved Bill Cosby. Glad I saw him in person before all this broke, I enjoyed it. I was so disappointed when all this became apparent it was true. He was someone in Hollywood I thought was who he said he was then to be so corrupt underneath the facade. I had lost nearly all my trust in the entertainment business now I've lost it all.

"I hear ya'", that was good.
I learned from a car dealer the phrase "I understand". It's what you say when someone accurately described the fact that you're screwing them over or forcing an issue. "I don't want to pay for undercoating.". "Yes, i understand."
It's a way to avoid saying no, while sounding like you're on their side, like you're agreeing or consoling when you aren't. It's a completely empty gesture of friendship. All it literally means is your face made sound and my brain identified it properly.

I was late for the premiere 😭 but this is a cool opportunity to see what I've learned from The Behavior Panel! First off he says 'we don't answer that' and 'there is no response', 'there is no comment about that'...eliminating the pronoun "I"~ distancing. "I don't want to compromise your integrity" he says oh so generously 🤣... well, that's enough blow by blow pausing for me! I want to dig in to this episode. I love you guys!! Whatever he came to publicize at the time of that interview, the question on people’s mind was about the accusations. He went from a beloved figure to a possible perverted creep in the blink of an eye. The interviewer did his job, and he was kind in doing it. To be disrespected and outright accused of having a lack of integrity says more about Cosby than the interviewer imo.

@@Mojave702 Why are you trolling the comment section on this channel? If you want to convince people that Cosby didn’t do what those women claim, trolling isn’t the ideal method.

From a layman's perspective with little knowledge about his case, his Aw shucks sweet old man essentially threatening the interviewer and producer makes me think he's guilty of charges against him more so than anything else I've heard. If he'd have said nothing after the interview and been nice and friendly I'd barely have noticed or been able to make an initial impression but he made it so much worse by continuing. How does he not know that shutting up is the biggest weapon you can have sometimes?

An accusation to the media regarding assault violates the individual rights of real abuse victims
These accusations were never reported to the police
As accusations made to the media it can be about anyone accused or any unidentified victim
These women have clearly identified themselves
It's odd that you would consider this to be victim behavior when in fact it isn't
Victim behavior is erratic fearful self loathing shameful
It isn't international news that you or anyone else is entitled too
Even more disturbing that you don't even know their names 🙄

I agree with Chase. It would have been very interesting, at the very least, if not more effective, to get a better response from Cosby if the interviewer would have played into his ego. Narcissists can actually be quite easily manipulated if you feed their ego. I know this from experience. However, Cosby might be too old to fall for it. But it still would have been great to see him try.

He sounds like a mob boss making veiled threats: "You know, I'd hate for your integrity to be diminished", like he's in a meeting with Tony Soprano.
