    I'm normally a lurker on your reactions, but I was so shocked to see this pop up I just had to say something! This is not just my favorite BTS album but my favorite K-Pop album of all time and I get such a large amount of joy watching people get to experience this album. I would have killed to see you react to Does That Make Sense for the first time, that's my favorite song off the album! I always highly recommend D&W to people who are new to BTS and I would say it's very underrated now among BTS' releases since most people tend to focus on their post Wings/YNWA releases. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much and I'm looking forward to your future reactions to their older albums!

      LOVE a lurker coming out of the dark to comment, I really appreciate this! Ha I discovered DTMS on run BTS when they were doing the wake up challenging in the garden of that beautiful house and I think V or Jin sang it as one of their guesses and I was like WHATS THAT!? If you’re going on this journey I’m going to be right here with you!!! Dark and Wild is such a solid album. Very reminiscent of early 2000s hip hop. God BTS used to be so good to me. Very pleasing to listen to. Vocal line was just starting to figure out their range. The harmonies. The richness in the production. The background vocals. I just don’t hear that anymore. I miss this sound. It’s nostalgic to me. The rap line is still god tier in my opinion. You can see their personalities in the verses. I remember hearing this for the first time and thinking wow. Unfortunately I haven’t listened to them since dynamite. But Dark and Wild will always be THAT album for me. Thank you for your reaction and honest opinion. I loved watching you lose your mind. ☺️

    It’s always so interesting to see different opinions. I love the last 2 songs lol. I respect that you’re honest about them not being your taste and voiced that in a way that’s still respectful of bts and their work. It’s refreshing to have a reactor not pretend to like every song just because that’s what they think the audience wants. You’re a genuine person and it shows in your videos. I hope you’ll do more album reactions in the future.

    Personally i like how Jimin's lower register is more used in older songs. I do not have the knowledge about their training to say what comes more natural to them their old or new style of singing but BH would have no problem providing them with vocal coaches if they needed one. Also : Jimin's singing was ruthlessly targeted by trolls and hateful people(still is) and it greatly affected his confidence for a while. Can't fault him for singing the way he feels most comfortable. Do hope he keeps exploring his range like he did in his solo album.

    Have to disagree on your comment about Jimin's vocals in recent years. He's actually found vocal techniques and a colour that's healthy for his vocal cords. In the early years of BTS and their first tours, he was damaging his throath a lot with the way he sang. ( The same goes for the other BTS vocal members, they all worked on healthy vocal techniques only later in their carreer. None of them had any prior experience or intense vocal training in their early years. E.g. Jimin lost his voice on tour and only had Jungkook give him small excersises to train his voice.)
    If you also dive into Jimin's acapella and his natural tone, you'll find it's not "overly produced" but it's just his unique tone that comes out that way. Yes, there's an average level of autotuning, it's just standard in this day and age. Even ariana grande has autotuning on her tracks.

    I agree about early BTS albums having less over porduced vocals, also they had much more R&B base melodies wich I enjoy more. Something I wish they will change for their future music is having a song so high. For example I like louder than bombs but when it gets to the chorus I feel like it's too much because It is so high.

    I really wonder how you think they will change after they come back from focusing on solo activities? I think they will have a focus on going back too their roots maybe not for all time as they really like to experiment. But I think the first few songs or even album will have heavy lyrical themes maybe about exploring independence linking it too like going out on your own for the first time. I also think they will have a big increase in harmonies as after being apart for so long. That’s my guess, you?

    also there's this one particular clip of jimin hitting the high note in let me know that just makes me emotional every time. i love let me know so much

  • @beautifulloly

    trying to understand your point of view, but i'd like to say that at that point jimin's voice was indeed raw but mostly very young and he was still trying different things, he found his style during the wings era with Blood sweeat and tears. As someone who's first comeback was actually Dark&Wild i can tell he started really liking his voice and how he could manipulate it then, and it just got better and now he has this insane range. Also back then they actually moulded almost all of the songs around the rapline, like you mentioned rm leading, so the singers perform in a very similar way, unless they're using tae's growl for the song or smth. After d&w and hyyh era they decided to really let the singers have the biggest parts of the song and I believe that's how most of them got to experiment, because back then i had NO idea jimin's voice could sound the way it sounds like today. Him in let me know was such a surprise to everyone already

    Rain in this Album was one of my top 3 fav songs on it p. I really like the lo if like sound. They bring this sound back kind of on the song 134340 or Pluto this song is on the love yourself: tear album. I really love that affect on the voice. I also love the lyrics for that particular song. I think map of the soul: 7 and love yourself:tear are my all time favorite bts albums with wings and the most beautiful moment in life: young forever ( this album is a combination of part 1 and 2 I prefer part 2 more but there were bangers on part 1).

    Their old stuff is just.. pure gold (Dark and Wild is absolutely one of my favorite albums, HYYH still takes the cake for me though). The production was very carefully made and authentic. NOT saying their music is inauthentic now (I am a fan of almost a decade) but I do feel BH/Hybe did influence them to "follow" the trend more. Yes, they produce their own music but they also work with in house producers and at the end of the day their work needs to be approved by the company. We know that a LOT of songs get rejected and refined until they get that "Hybe" sound. BTS' music doesn't suffer from it AS much as other groups since they still have a say in their work but other groups fall under the curse of the infamous "Hybe Mixing". As for the vocals, I agree that post 2018-ish that they overproduce Jimin's and even some of the others vocals. Jimin has a beautiful and very unique voice and going back is so crazy because it was much more dynamic and effortless. It definitely seems like Hybe just grabs up talented trainees with a lot of potential and hope that they thrive rather than giving them the proper tools to do so or maintain their skills and nurture their own endurance. Even from behind the scenes vids and training stuff we see the trainees practicing and mastering choreo 24/7 but we never seen them with vocal coaches or practicing any vocal techniques. I'm not saying they don't get ANY guidance but I think most of it is just in studio when producers will guide them to sing a certain way. Lack of proper vocal techniques will put a lot of stress on ANY singer's vocal chords. The company definitely saw how both of their unique voices stood out so they tried to run with it but only ended up over producing Jimin's voice and as for Taehyung his voice did get lower but also that he leaned INTO the deepness because that's known as his signature although he was very good at falsettos too. Same for Jimin, he is great when he sings in his own lower register too but the parts he is given are often extremely high or center around the more nasally version of his voice. I can name countless artists under Hybe with beautiful voices but the ones with good techniques were ones that either trained under a different company/school first or sought to improve on their own through finding their own coach or through other methods (Ex. Yunjin, Jungkook, Chaewon, Fromis_9, Nu'est, SVT).
    (Edit because it sounds like I'm just trash talking Hybe but I have a problem with how A LOT of companies these days are less focused on a more cohesive production of both the music and the idols themselves and more focused on pumping out a billion groups at once with shorter songs that will go viral on Tiktok. Production sounds more muffles and noisy and the idols have less individualism as the companies want to market them as a perfect unit that comes together as One.)

    • @beautifulloly
      @beautifulloly 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i would be surprised if they didn't get vocal coaches back in the day because i remember jimin talking about trying to get better vocally over the years and I think he just strives to get better and better but it just took a long time for him to find his style, doesn't help that antis and mostly other kpop fans targetted him the most.

    I LIVE for back-in-the-day RM... like he was really grimey back then. He had soo much emotion within him and his rap and his lyrics. BTS have the BEST lyricism in the game!!!! That's what really attracted me to them in 2017. Back in the day, like you noticed with War of Hormone, RM really set the tone of being the leader/main rapper. He was out here in every track letting y'all know. JUNGKOOK RAPPER IS EVERYTHING lol. I love V's charisma soooo much like straight out the gate he gave y'all PERSONALITY!! That was his charm + his lower, scratchy vocals. OK. I'm gonna keep this comment short & leave bc I could fangirl all day byeeee [EDIT: OMGGG ur least fave are my most fave b-sides!!! I ended up having to check out the full album before checking out the analysis. I will say K-pop of the 2010s hit differently than today. I do like Hip Hop Lover and Rain and that Only You song. And that outro was good too. I can't say the album was bad or anything. I don't know much about musicality or sequencing, but I could see myself studying this album. For me that is pretty good.
    I do agree that you can get more out of a song that is 3 minutes long and it's a shame that it isn't done like this anymore. Kpop was a genre where there is a lot in the production of the song like extra verses, chorus, and stuff and I miss it because these days the songs are sounding more repetitive, and I can take it.
    Sidenote, I have liked BTS in the sense of their perseverance and they were one of the first K-pop groups that associated with black people on a level that wasn't tied to clicks and likes or even fame. I remember always appreciating it and I appreciate the work they did with Megan thee Stallion. I have seen how hard they worked to get where they are today. I'm going to have to check out 1 more album from them though. Cause this is my second view of your analysis and the songs are growing on me.
