      Reminds me a little of the Surge interface, which is my favorite. Just sliders and values positioned logically. You can fit a lot on the screen that way with minimal menu diving. This is coming from a Melda user. Also there's an older synth called Atlantis that has an FX version, both of which use sliders like this. Super tidy interfaces.

    It's been a million years and finally a plugin developer has implemented some sort of control over the attack and release curves. One of the reasons why I never really used or needed anything other than FL's stock multiband compressor Maximus, is because it has almost everything you'd need in a number one go-to compressor. None of the AI and so called analog warmth stuff was able to even get close to the versatility and ease of use of Maximus. Stuff saturation plugins before or after if you want warmth. One of the things I almost never found anywhere else is the "Curve" setting for the Attack and Release. It's not a Knee or a waveshaper, but rather the "tension" on how the compressor's attack and release reacts to the input. Absolute monster on individual samples and dry unprocessed wacky electronic drum things. I'll definitely check this one out, a big thank you for bringing this one out of your emails!
    But I have to note one thing - could you try and more often use individual stems or even samples, rather than full mixes or already mastered tracks when reviewing tone-shaping plugins? I honestly don't get the slightest idea if the plugin would actually perform nice on things I'd be pushing it on, for instance, a drum bus, or a synth out of control. Use some material that actually needs the type of plugin you're reviewing it on - a dry, lifeless, or plainly bad, or wacky drum track, that needs some oil in there. A very good example would be the distressor video.
    Anyway, keep it up!

      This plugin reminded me of Airwindows simplicity too. I mix so much better without interfaces I try and use Airwindows and plugins like this wherever possible. so much of what we do doesn't need any interface, simply a slider/dial with a label and its current value.

    I tried to ask ChatGPT to translate it in layman's term about the Transition and here's what I got lol...
    [The "Transition" parameter in this tool controls how quickly it changes from making loud parts quiet to making quiet parts louder. The "attack" phase is when it starts to make the loud parts quieter, and the "release" phase is when it stops making the quiet parts louder.
    This tool doesn't have fixed settings for how long it takes to do the attack and release phases - instead, it tries to hit certain targets for how long those phases should take. The "transition" parameter controls how quickly it moves between those targets.
    If the transition is very fast, the tool will switch back and forth between making loud parts quieter and making quiet parts louder very quickly. But if the transition is slower, the tool will do it more gradually, which can make the music sound more natural and rhythmic.]

The transition parameter makes it so incredibly versatile, it can go from snappy VCA/FET style compression to smooth Mu compression and anything inbetween by adjusting only one slider. This is probably the best donation/freeware plug-in so far this year.

    I'm not using computers for actually making music, but this sparked my interest. I never liked any Plug-Ins. They sound lifeless and boring, always limited in multiple dimensions (frequency, stereo-width, dynamics, randomness). I was especially fed up with how far off the emulations of hardware are from their real-life-counterparts, so I went back to hardware only and that's what I like and enjoy. There are a couple of features I do like with computers. A big screen, storage that can be managed well (with naming and search functionality) and mobility.
    Very seldomly, a Plug-In crossed my view and DOES spark interest, also has something to do with WHO puts this into my view. So I tried this #CleanMachine and I really like what I could do with it! Thanks for showing us this, Wytse.

    C++ indeed, for future reference the file name extension betrays the language (.cpp) whereas if it were in C# (C sharp) the extension would be .cs, .c is C, .bas is Basic or Visual Basic, .pas is Pascal or Object Pascal (as used in Delphi) and there are a load more. For a programmer a quick glance at the code gives it away but for non programmers the file name extension is your friend. In the C languages you might also come across .h which is a header file but that’s as far as I should delve in a TH-cam comment. Great video, interesting plug in👍

    ChatGPT: This code appears to be written in C++. It defines a class called Compressor which has a constructor that takes an object of type Parameters and a member function called reset(). Additionally, the class has another member function called computeRelativeOutput that takes in two double values - input and gainReduction - and returns a double. The code also uses standard C++ libraries such as std::abs and std::exp2.

    I believe all plugins are still in C++ which can compile down for both Windows or Mac instruction sets and C++ runs extremely fast and low-level which you need for low latency. I had no idea it was such little code for a compressor! As a developer it makes me want to try and build my own plugin.

  • @rome8180
    @rome8180 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the record, "amalgamated" is just a fancy word meaning "merged" or "combined." It makes sense that they would call their company that based on the kind of plugins they're making. They're definitely combining various functions into a single plugin.

    Seems like a fidgety compressor tho. Even tho the interface is minimal, there are more intuitive compressors out there for specific purposes. transition is actually sounding like a hold, but instead of staying after the attack, it just keeps on attacking while simultaneously slowly releasing more and more, making it louder, and in a way eliminating that feeling when i would hear the release on drums and it would be too distracting hearing it duck, but this way it's just different, it's still precise but smoother.

  • @PabloMessier
    @PabloMessier ปีที่แล้ว +5

    As a mastering engineer/programmer, I've been noticing the same issues you come across in most plugins out there about the auto-gain, this feature should be relatively straightforward to implement, if the developers were able to program and pull of a plugin, which can be a complex task then adding auto-gain should be simple, so I really don't get why most plugins are lacking this, and the old excuse that auto-gain is difficult is just nonsense, there are many programing libraries and algorithms written by other developers who already solve the problem so it's just a matter of using that solution to implement it in your work, at this moment i'm working in a auto-gain bot written in python, that you should be able to link it to any plugin vst that doesn't have auto-gain and it should automatically level the input/output, as soon as the bot is refine and ready I will share it the community for testing.

The missing time will be taken proportionally from the attack and release time. But that's just a guess...

    I think it could use some visual feedback graphics on the harder to understand sliders.

    uh-mal-guh-may-ted. The source is in a language called C++. Very easy to get started learning it, but very difficult to master. It's also written within a very popular framework called JUCE which there is tons and tons of info about online.
    This plugin is exactly the kind of style I like, too. Very clever "transition" control and if the gain and ratio are all managed by one "drive" control that's kinda neat, too, it's gonna save you steps and speed up mixing but does make it a little less flexible.

    In Austria we merged the debit system (EC) with the credit card system. SOOO handy. Now I can use my debit card like a Mastercard.
    Do they accept Paypal? Because then you wouldn't need a CC. Just link Paypal to your bank account. So convient!

    When you forget to (or late) mention the name of the song used in the video I am REALLY WORRIED but then I listen to the first note, Darude's Sandstorm is such a classic.

      For me the first track here has nothing to do with Darude's old classic Sandstorm techno hit! Completly new one. Still searching for this one. Something "The Sandstorm" title at the beginning and " Home Planet" at the end of this part but didn't find the artist nor the title.. :(

    1:24 I think vertical faders would have been better - horizontal ones are hard to operate using the mouse.

      If you move your mouse to the sides it should be pretty easy 😘😂

      @@lassorb4752 No believe me, I have RSI and doing exact, controlled movements sideways is a lot harder on the wrist / shoulder joints. I also design user interfaces (for email plugins) and there is a reason why dropdown menus and lists are vertical and not horizontal. Dragging the mouse sideways bad for the joints and hurts when you do it a a lot. Also a reason why screen knobs usually are defaulted to vertical dragging and not circular dragging.

    So transition is something like Massenburg’s hysteresis on the 8900? MDW’s DRC2 plug might be more complicated 😅

    Transition sounded like ”Hold” when you tweaked it. Logical - slower transitions = longer hold time.

    just a sidequestion, why is the 90's intro still there lol

  • @Bthelick
    @Bthelick ปีที่แล้ว

    Wyste the transition function is the same kind of thing that Weiss mastering compressors have (or the other great free compressor Kotelnikov by Tokyo Dawn), its like a hysteresis / crest threshold, telling the sidechain how long to take transitioning its detection.
