The synth in this song is very similar to the Flock of Seagulls song Wishing. I went back and listened to it and I definitely feel like they were either influenced by it or were paying homage to the band.
I want to share something very special that happened to me last year when I saw them live in Guadalajara, México. To provide a bit of context, last year on March 31st I lost my father, which was a really rough moment in my life. I had never lost someone that close to me. A few months after, they announced their OTM tour and I bought my ticket to see them live in Guadalajara. The concert would take place on October 31st, exactly 7 months after my dad had passed, and also 7 is one of my favorite albums from Beach House. I thought, "OH THAT'S A VERY NICE COINCIDENCE". The day of the concert arrived. I remember when I bought my ticket, it was the only seat left in the theater box I had selected. The concert began and I started enjoying the show, I was in awe, super excited and emotional to be there, and I couldn't look anywhere else but to the stage and seeing all the people enjoying the same music I had been a fan of for so long. New Romance was one of the last songs they played, while they were playing I looked away a bit to see the people that I was sharing the box with. The seat right next to me had never been occupied. No one had taken it during the whole concert, and I do remember vividly that that seat was already bought when I bought my ticket. I thought "DAD, IS THIS YOUR LAST GIFT TO ME?" I started tearing up even more. It was such a special day.
I've had this CD for a while now and for me, this is my favorite song. Great musical arrangement, nice emotional mix in vocals, and the lyrics are spot on making this a true standout. Their are about five other songs that are well done like "You Know", but this has it all. Really nice ear candy at high volume.
