    Thank Your Lucky Stars is the 6th album from Beach House (and 2nd new full length of 2015)! The band have the following to say about it:
    “Thank Your Lucky Stars is our sixth full length record. It was written after Depression Cherry from July 2014 - November 2014 and recorded during the same session as Depression Cherry. The songs came together very quickly and were driven by the lyrics and the narrative. In this way, the record feels very new for us, and a great departure from our last few records. Thematically, this record often feels political. It’s hard to put it into words, but something about the record made us want to release it without the normal “campaign.” We wanted it to simply enter the world and exist.
    Thank you very much,
    Beach House”

    Somewhere Tonight is so ghostly. Like the tale of two old lovers, souls, dancing in a grand old ballroom, empty. I love it.

    I first became a fan with Teen Dream, Bloom blew my mind, and Depression Cherry broke my heart.
    Thank Your Lucky Stars returns full circle to the hazy childhood memories from their debut but with the more cinematic atmospheres and textures found in Bloom. The album seems to be a story of lost innocence.
    The more I listen to Thank Your Lucky Stars, the more I realize this is my favorite #BeachHouse yet. It's simultaneously their darkest and dreamiest album.
    "The Traveller" is road music for wandering souls, “Elegy to the Void” & "Rough Song" both belong in an oneiric film, and “Somewhere Tonight” is the most perfect song #BeachHouse has ever written.

    Thank Your Lucky Stars has become one of my favorite albums recently. Personally, it feels like Beach House coming full circle in their discography/stuff they've explored up to this point. I find elements of all their previous albums in TYLS, as well as new tricks thrown in. Not too sure if anyone has talked about this, but I adore what seems to be the story in the album of a girl going from childhood to old age. Contrary to what many believe, I do think that every song on this album is essential. They all fall perfectly in their place, and both the opening and closing tracks truly feel like a beginning and an end.
    I won't lie, at the time that both Depression Cherry and TYLS were released I firmly believed DC was the superior album, but as the title suggests, it's more of an emotional piece to accompany you during brooding times. Man oh man did TYLS grow on me. It's such an interesting album sonically as well, it sounds rather full despite the "skeletal" structure. Rough Song is one of the most tender songs I've heard and Elegy to the Void is just insane. The lyrics in Common Girl get me every time.
    As mentioned earlier, this album feels like Beach House in a return to form, while remaining new and fresh.
    For a brief moment, it seems like the story of our enigmatic heroine omnipresent in all of Beach House's music has come to an end; yet all the same it seems like we've barely scratched the surface of all her mysteries.

    Beach house's music always takes me back to my first year in university, it was before everyone had smart phones, I had my friends old ipod and he had tonnes of good music on there, I would go through it listening to music I had never heard before, he had Beach House on there and I would listen to everyday as I got the bus to class, its a very strange feeling being alone for the first time in a town you don't know anyone in but Beach House and my friend's ipod full of music was there for me, i wanna throw my friend some love for lending me his ipod for all those months, he's just released his second track, it has beach house vibes, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Pessimistic Weather ,you may be in for a surprise and he would love to hear your opinion

    The live version they're playing of the song "Elegy" in 2016 is mesmerizing. They did it at Coachella weekend 1, April 16. Highlight of the show, for me. I caught it via the yt livestream. They add a whole long, rousing instrumental section at the end that's mind blowing that transforms the song from the studio version. It's got three guitars going simultaneously, reminding me a little of Sonic Youth but with somewhat less "noisy" guitar styles than SY. Beach House as a 4-piece band works so well. That whole Coachella BH set is so good. Sadly, the Coachella organization is draconian about people upping Coachella sets to yt, etc. They block them or have them taken down. But fortunately, there's still a torrent version of the video findable online if you're a "pirate" at heart.

      would u rather they be good businessmen and hold off on releasing an amazing finished album because of concerns about oversaturation of the market or accusations of same-sameness from critics? id rather hear their music now as they finish it, not a year or two or five later like so many "other" artists who could spend eternity writing and recording but never come close to the brilliance of Beach House...

    • @dzhaughn
      @dzhaughn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      On Depression Cherry, the songs have an attitude of passive (even dazed, uncomprehending) observation. Here, the lyrics are sharp commentary, reject something stifling, and insist on change.
      This makes the two albums very distinct.

      Rough Song is so lyrically brutal, yet seductively rhythmic. It takes my breath away.
      The words are heart-breakingly cruel, but the sound so suspicious and inviting. The contradicting elements force my audible senses into overload. It's almost too much to bear.

    It's been two years and one month exactly since this album came out; I've listened to the thing a few hundred times at this point. For me, this is one of their best moments. This record is Beach House, but with a bit more 'rock' flavor. It's a very interesting piece. I've always felt a good number of the tracks have a vintage feel; the sound is somewhere in the 90s. I love this record.

    Wow not to say Depression Cherry wasn't good because I think it was a great album say what you want but this album Thank Your Lucky Stars has that Bloom feel to it, when I first heard Bloom it was something Ive never heard because each track flows into the next song so perfectly with unique I have never expedienced in my life it was and is a perfect from front to back and Thank Your Lucky Stars has that feel it. 2 albums in one year this is great and this album is amazing!!

    I honestly did not like this album the first time but after repeated listens, I've realised how dark this one is and how much I love it. I've realised that all Beach House albums need a few listens before you 'get it'. Also, I kinda got lethargic after Depression Cherry, I mean 2 albums in 2 months is insane. I have yet to recover from DC and suddenly, TYLS comes out. But after repeated listens, you realised how fantastic and different both albums are. I just hope their next album is in 3 more years or something, to 'build up the hype'.

    • @benmeyer8600

      I feel like with Depression Cherry it was "On finally let's have a listen---well that was, that was just lovely!" then this came out of the blue, which was "BAHHHHHHHH THERE THEY ARE!" Depression Cherry was them reaching out; this is Victoria and Alex coming home. Keeping us on our toes. Like you, each album has to grow on me. But it makes my heart pump tinted blood that tattoos the lyrics on the underside of my skin to remain evermore, they're apart of me. And like a tattoo, it only happens over time.

      @TheMrQwertyify 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Josh Guzek But it was a surprise to the public, there wasn't any promotion for it or pre-sales or singles released until the week of it's release. It's also important that it wasn't given to music critics prior to the release, but at the same time the fans received it. Of course it was not a surprise to the creators, they had to produce it and write it, but the etching was merely hints. I see what you mean, but they wanted to make something that was thought out as much of a surprise as possible.

    Another masterpiece, and although I do admit that Depression Cherry was more difficult to dissolve than the others, it holds some of my favorite Beach House songs: "Wildflower" & "Bluebird". TYLS however is very nostalgic for me; so comparable to their earlier works, but amped up and mature. I've concluded that "The Traveller" and "Rough Song" are magical songs. The end of "Rough Song" brought me to tears and made the whole album even more worth while! Bloom will always be my favorite of theirs, but never stop making music!!! 😭
