The urn kick is a PRIME example of their genius. They slow down to a serious bit, about audiences not laughing, and Terry Gillam, the python no one ever looked at, is the one to kick it over. And after the cleanup, Cleese goes IMMEDIATELY back to his place in the story and finishes the point.
Yup, and the point was that you didn't need to put the punchline at the end of a line or a joke -- you could get a roiling laugh from your audience at any time!
When Gilliam knocked over that urn, I swear I couldn't stop laughing for 20 mins, missed a lot of the following jokes. My brother & mother thought I was crazy but -- aside from Cleese's biting eulogy to Chapman at his memorial service -- that was the funniest moment the guys ever had post-Graham.
The beginning is just so fucking genius. They're all just so casual and you can slowly, slowly see all them react individually to Izzard being up there. John Cleese's slow double take is the best haha!
There is a phomenal cue at the kicking the urn. Right before that second, Cleese just finishes telling a story and saying .."the audience didnt laugh ". and then bang, Gilliam kicks the urn and the audience is roaring with laughter.
Monty Python's humor was unique. I doubt you will ever see its like again, because I don't think we will ever see assembled six minds of such creative lunacy. I don't think some people realise or appreciate how incredibly clever these guys were.
I LOVE MONTY PYTHON! I'm 23 now but I have loved them since I was 17. They always make me laugh and have a better day when I am down. X'D!!! GO MONTY PYTHON!!! I wish they were still doing things.
When I first saw this 30 years ago and Gilliam knocked over the urn I immediately knew it was completely planned (though I doubt they told Klein). Perfect..
If a comedian was worthy enough to be considered a member of the fabulous monty python, that would most definitely be the best executive transvestite in the world.. Eddie.
It is funny about the Hobbies. I had a 13 year old kid once who I put on his Basketball card (which he is literally the player on the card): list of Hobbies as I had to fill it out because he was (after repeated reminding) did not do so, and it needed to get done (aka he was lazy). I wrote for his hobbies: Playing Basketball, Playing Video Games, Not Cleaning his Room, Making messes around the house, and Eating (especially Hot Cheetos) He was not happy about that when he finally got the deck of cards with each member of his team and looked at his own card. Everyone got a deck, so everyone saw those cards. The reaction he had was priceless. I filmed that. It is a cherished memory.
I have this on DVD as part of their _16 Ton Megaset,_ but it's nice not having to fish them out in order to reflect on Monty Python. I was just watching a *Geographics* video by Simon Whistler about the U.K.'s secret nuclear bunker, during which references to Monty Python were subtly added, due to one of the bunker's many code names.
Wow, I remember fucking DYING when Terry knocked over Graham's ashes when I watched this when I was 13. (5 years ago) I couldn't breathe and had tears in my eyes. I love Monty Python! RIP Graham!
Idle's trying to pile the ashes under the rug, Gilliam's making an even bigger mess with the dustpan & brush, Palin's trying to scoop them back in the urn with the lid, Jones looks aghast and stamps them with his shoes and Cleese actually rubs some of them on his teeth like they were cocaine. Honest to Christ, these guys couldn't be funnier if they TRIED.
And it happened so unexpectedly... LOL I'm suffering from this same horrific emotion, as I'm typing this. :D I'm afraid I'll have to be cured from chronic laughter. LMAO!
If they had made other Indiana Jones films between Last Crusade and Crystal Skull, I’m telling you, Michael Palin would have made a great Marcus Brody since Denholm Elliott passed away.

John said that was the biggest laugh they ever had.
Please God, give us another Monty Python...
love the way John Cleese just kills the moment
"but he is DEAD.."
"stone.. fucking DEAD"
RIP Terry.
He was a very naughty boy.
He is also stone fucking dead
I love the fact that they treated Graham as dust after that urn kick!
Somewhere in heaven, Chapman is laughing his ass off.
And the only article not funny
Aimed at Eddy Lizard
Heaven isn’t real. He’s dead forever like the rest of us.

The first time I saw that I literally fell off my chair laughing!!!
That was the last great Pythonesque joke ever made.
Gilliam put lots of us on the floor that night
@@belchnasty Yeah, I did that too... or I was doubled over in my chair, I can't even remember.
@@danielolson437 As we Americans say often "That's NO shit!"
Graham Chapman is literally all over the place.
That's what Graham would like! Just genius!

And Gilliam throwing an apple at his head.

Eddie Izzard the only member of Monty Python to never be in Monty Python.
"...new generations of fans keep coming and coming like my own 14 yr old son."
Lol, the look on his face at that moment...
Eddie Izzard. The only person in the world silly enough to be considered the missing python!Look at him sleazing his way through the monty unnoticed!
I've never laughed so hard the first time i saw this... Absolute genius.
Cheers
.
And Chapman probably LOVED it, wherever he was!
My gut started to hurt when the butler broke out the dustbuster...haven't laughed so hard in ages!
Oh holy crap, "flower arranging!" is so brief but so fantastic. XD
I lost it when the "ashes" fell and they came with a broom and mini-vac.
is that Ted Danson laughing in the audience after that happens at 9:23
yes it is!
No it isn´t.
yes it is because they interviewed the cast of CHEERS that week on the same stage..
My answer was suposed to be a reference of the "Argument Sketch" and not to be taken seriously :)
I LOVE MONTY PYTHON! I'm 23 now but I have loved them since I was 17. They always make me laugh and have a better day when I am down. X'D!!! GO MONTY PYTHON!!! I wish they were still doing things.
That's how you deal with death. With humor.
9:12 is the moment I officially became hooked on Python. One of the funniest things I'd ever seen up until then.
This was my father's intro to Python. He was completely fascinated by them and his one question to me was "is that one guy really dead?"
Oh man Ted Danson went crazy for the urn bit!
When I first saw this 30 years ago and Gilliam knocked over the urn I immediately knew it was completely planned (though I doubt they told Klein). Perfect..

"THE URN" "THE END" Love the Brits!!🎉😢😅
Eddie Izzard is perfect in this
i'm 16 and i love monty python. absolutely proud of it.
I was introduced to Python back in the 70's by my dad who would watch reruns on TV on Saturday nights. Thanks, Dad.
Thank you for posting this!!! The pythons forever changed comedy for the better. They will remain the greatest. RIP Graham Chapman.
Thank you so much for putting these up!
Thanks for this, in high quality and all!

Yes this is up! Been looking for it for years, thanks!
Oooo, i love that lamp. :)

No one will probably believe me but my friend wrote the "young fan" letter in our college dorm room as a joke.
haha i love eddie izzard
RIP Mr Jones, or as I like to remember him, Prince 'erbert of Swamp Castle.
God, I've just laughed my ass off watching this vid XD Great material, thanks for sharing!
Hi 10 years ago, how was it?
I'm 28 years old and I came from Japan, but I love Monty Python.
Wow, I remember fucking DYING when Terry knocked over Graham's ashes when I watched this when I was 13. (5 years ago) I couldn't breathe and had tears in my eyes. I love Monty Python! RIP Graham!
Haha didn't expect Gilliam's move at the end.
1st time I saw this, when Gilliam knocks over the urn, I couldn't stop laughing for an hour solid... one of the funniest gags they've ever done!
Graham would have loved "stone FUCKING dead!"
I remember watching this years ago and the bit where Terry kicks over the ashes floored me for minutes. It still does
@CCNuck I believe so, but its done in exactly the kind of Bad Taste that Chapman might have loved.
No one would have believed it, but Eddie Izzard made even Monty Python funnier...
Great, monty python
That urn bit was so twisted!!! XD
Thank you
love eddie izzard
When they brought Gray's ashes out, I was eating and I nearly choke! Terry G's jumper pwns! XD
9:11 I guess Terry made Graham spill out a bit xD
knocking over the ashes still cracks me up
Hahaha at 9:24..thats Ted Danson ( Sam ) from Cheers if i'm not mistaken...glad that he appreciates Monty!!!!
Almost full Python. That's really painful.
Legends
Lol at Cleese "Stone fucking dead".
i'm almost 19 and i love it also! :D
How old are you now
"Stone fucking dead" HAHAHAHA
Just perfect. Actually better than The Meaning of Life.
And it happened so unexpectedly... LOL
I'm suffering from this same horrific emotion, as I'm typing this. :D
I'm afraid I'll have to be cured from chronic laughter.
LMAO!
R.I.P. Chapman.
Did John Cleese just "taste" a bit of Graham Chapman? Lol!
HE ATE IT! John had a bit of the ashes!
My comedy heroes.
Absolute genius, and nothing has come close to the original (with the obvious exceptions for Spike, Peter and George.
It took off in the states quite well!
Ted Danson having the time of his life
Cleese-- one of the sturdiest pillars of comedy
Tocante.Gracioso.Genial.😆✌💕💕💕💕💕💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
9:24- Ted Danson
I like Terry Gilliams Tintin sweater.
Most certainly! :)
9:25 When you notice Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen in the audience
What did Terry Gilliam throw at Eddie Izzard? That had me laughing for some time :')
English humor rocks!
I Love John Cleese he's the Best.
HAHAHA so random..thanks for the explanation..coming from the Japanese I'm not even surprised XD
Poor Graham.
quick get the dustbuster!!
Y que churro barbaro seguia siendo Mike.😊💖💖💖💖💖✌💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Oh dear I hope Mr. Chapman is alright.
Which means you have a high sense of humor.
I'm so happy they chose "python". Somehow Monty Rattlesnake or Monty Cottonmouth would just sound silly.
The picture of Graham looks like "Bob" Dobbs.
i would love to be the 7th member
@Melissa Jackson
"Also: Great Britain is three countries."
England, Wales, Scotland, North Ireland.
MP4LIFE!
fair play, I won't bring it up again
I finally understand where they got the idea for the "Killer Joke", They simply based it on their own jokes.
Flower arrangement!
Viscount Slithery!
9:25 Ted Danson.
If they had made other Indiana Jones films between Last Crusade and Crystal Skull, I’m telling you, Michael Palin would have made a great Marcus Brody since Denholm Elliott passed away.
Ted Danson in the audience right at the end laughing... 09:24
-Graham Chapman passed away in 1989... He would have loved this...
- But he's dead!
