emma and spinner was very random but when i was rewatching their old degrassi episodes something about it kinda brought me peace to know their trails and tribulations would bring them together one day 😅
I honestly feel they messed up by not having them have more scenes together, or plots together. Last time they were really involved in a plot were when Spinner and the others were doing the anti-Rick stuff in Season 4 when Emma randomly became friends with the grade above simply because she was hard on Rick. The last time before that was in Season 2, the infamous diet experiment which apparently caused Spinner to get boners. Not enough history. When they were together during the film, it felt so fake, manufactured and contrived, you could clearly tell they lacked a LOT of chemistry and it felt like the writers literally just stuck them together. Rewatching it makes it so much worse. In the process of everything they assassinated Jane's character, only reason they even had Jane cheat on Spinner was to eventually lead to putting him with Emma but they still never had any build up. Just one chat they had at The Dot when Emma came back all confused about her future in an earlier episode in Season 9 but that was pretty casual and didn't think much of it. Spinner and Jane had so much more chemistry, it was such a shame. If Emma had feelings towards Spin before then it would make a whole lot more sense but this is so random, it hurts my head just thinking about it. They literally just wanted two of the original characters to end up with each other. That's all that mattered to the writers, even if they went about it the wrong way.
That's actually a really sweet way of contextualizing their marriage. Looking back, they've both been impacted deeply by a lot of the same Degrassi events (ex: Rick's school shooting). When you think about that it makes a little more sense!

What’s really funny (or not funny) is that movies and shows that had characters visit NYC really appear to be truly impactful to people. As a native New Yorker myself, throughout my teens and 20s I worked with several people who moved here from middle America somewhere, thinking it would be super easy to get a singing gig or make it in fashion or get discovered for some other kind of art. Every single one of them ended up going back home, disappointed. Also this is fun timing for me, because I recently got married in Central Park 💕

It's why it was so funny to me when some people were so shocked when Jake and Clare briefly happened, despite their parents dating. I mean, at least in their case, they weren't twins. I also love how Fiona kissing Declan was never mentioned again. Not even by the students at Degrassi the next school year. Fiona attempted incest on Declan. That was very concerning. Spinner and Emma made no sense at all. Spinner loved Jane far more than he ever loved Emma. It would make far more sense for him to forgive her and get back together. Holly J cheated on Sav with Declan in Season 10, they got back together later that same episode after Sav forgave her but even if Spin is different, if you love someone so much and they are sorry and would do anything for you, then why not, especially since there was no chance of Jane and Declan hooking up again since he was committed to Holly J.. The writers just wanted to put the last two remaining main characters from the original classes together in their last appearance on the show (until Spinner appears as a guest in an episode in Season 14) so they forced them to marry each other and stay married and then have a stupid ceremony. They did it in such a messed up way. I would understand if Emma and Spinner actually had history but they rarely interacted with each other through the whole show for the 9 years they've been on it together. That was a huge letdown, it all seem so fake and contrived (I know it's a show but they used to try).

I got into the show around season 10. I would watch pre season 10 stuff here and there whenever it popped up on TV. One time, I woke up to the last 10 or so minutes of this special and was in complete shock that Emma and Spinner ended up together. I bought the whole show on DVD and watched all of seasons 1-9 to see how this even developed just to find out all I had to do was just rewatch this movie to get caught up. I've seen the most random couples develop on this show, so I didn't think their whole relationship started as an accident. There was more development between Joey and the girl he cheated on Caitlin with in School's Out.

The banana thing is a bit overplayed at this point. But. Seeing what original cast members stayed on the train and how the movies wrapped itself around them in the later years is a nostalgia trip. Who would have thought? Spinner? A star after all.

worst episode/movie of degrassi holly j and declan with their stalling jane from going to the wedding was the only good part. having emma and spinner be married makes it the worst couple in TV history, they would of been better making him end up with holly J then have jane and declan get together
