Derailleurs are vulnerable to both intentional and unintentional damage. A kick, drop, or crash can mess them up. I have succeeded in just twisting a bent dérailleur back into shape after an event, but I replaced it as soon as I could. Cassettes are messy, with all of the lubrication on the outside, where it collects road grime rapidly. This leaves me still curious about Shimano Alfine 11. While still expensive compared to Japanese cassettes, it's not crazy for a bike conversion that is going to get new wheels, motor, and battery. If it offered superior reliability and simpler maintenance, then it might be interesting. The thing is that I have not seen many long-term reviews of Alfine 11's. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough, but I'm curious about them. Do any of your customers bring up the idea? Or, better, actually send you one to test?
Rohloff is the way to go for me. Durability and no maintenance plus a huge gear range…well worth the money imo. Soon as I get my next build started, that will be on my list of must haves.

Hi Brad. I'm getting ready to convert a 2019 Marlin 7. In routing the cables through the downtube, did you have to enlarge the holes in the frame? Did you just bore it with a drill?

Hi Johnny. . . i have trek marlin 6 with 73mm width bottom bracket that i would like to convert to ebike with bafang BBS02. Can you please advice me what issue I may encounter if I use BBS02 on my bike. My number one concern is the main body(Spindle) of the BBS02 is 68-73mm in length vs Marlin 73mm bottom bracket. Is there still room for the inner and outer lockout locker to lock/fasten the motor? is the 42T chainrain will work as well? . . .Thank you in advance and hoping to hear from you.
Great video as always! Do you know if a standard 46t Bafang ring would fit on that frame? I have a 2019 Marlin 7. I assume they are the same dimensions.

hey Johnny love your channel, need advice . just built a trek 7 bbso2 as my commuter but am struggling with chainline. started with a lekkie 42tooth 9mm offset but it chewed into frame so offset with 5mm bottom bracket spacer, then whole motor is sitting too far on the right. so put a lekkie 36 no offset and removed spacer but chainline still sucks? is there an offset 36 tooth front chainring? that would be suitable for bbso2? I’m thinking my only other option would be to chamfer the right side of bottom bracket down several millimetres? by the way, this combo is awesome as a street bike except for chainline. love bafang smooth and reliable.
On the off chance you reply to this, I'm looking at getting a rockhopper comp, or a marlin 6-7, and doing a conversion so I can go fast and far lol. You've done builds on both of them, which do you like better?

I currently have a 1500 watt BBSHD 52v 48 chainring yet it does only 22mph even with the controller top speed maxed out? You hitting 37mph with the BBS02 makes my mouth water. Thanks very much I enjoy your videos and delivery.
I have recently converted my bike to a ebike. I bought a BBSHD 52V off eBay. My bike is a MTB Schwinn 24spd. After installing the BBSHD it’s now a 8 speed. Just yesterday it was warm enough to ride so I did…on PAS 9 and me pedaling pretty fast I hit 37.5mph. My bike is stupid heavy and I am not a in shape, fit fella. I think I could hit 40mph if I really tired. My front chain ring is 46T and my bike is a 29er. So if you are speed limited on your BBSHD, it’s all software. I bought the USB cable off Amazon and googled the software, super easy to download the software and hook the bike into the pc. I downloaded the first profile for BBSHD I found and have made zero changes since. The differences are amazing. PAS 4 and 5 are super natural feeling and 9 is full power and just crazy power.
I don't agree with the Suntour bottoming out comment. Most have a preload to prevent that and many Suntour models exceed Rockshox in performance.
