Honestly, I figured MatPat would come in at the end with an “actually, it’s NEW JERSEY. THANKS FOR WATCHING” a classic plot twist
I was waiting for it. It would have made a lot of sense and the distance is swimmable and canoeable.
Matpat didn't mention it (which is weird cause he ignored lore and lots of it) but new york got hit first and hard it's been quarantined nobody can get out or in, till the second game of course where in the dlc you can go back to new york.
New Jersey is the worst place in the whole country during an apocalypse.

As a native New Yorker, who has lived in all 5 boroughs, I agree to a point. When discussing weaponry, while you may have more legally owned and/or police depots elsewhere, Staten Island has more "off the grid" hardware than the other 4 combined. Its all a matter of where you look and who you know. And lets not forget the Families still hold sway there so it'll be safer, relatively speaking.

I'd argue that the Bronx is the most survivable because it is the only borough that you can evacuate without having to cross a bridge, which in any apocalyptic situation will become deadly bottlenecks
Thank you. As someone from The Bronx, that's the first immediate thought that came to my mind. We're the only borough on the mainland that would allow for evacuation with room to expand further north.

I think mattpat is overlooking a key issue in the timing of the green poison, it takes place during black Friday. Thus in order to garuntee that you are safe from infection, you need to stay away from any major store and anyplace where large sums of cash are being stored/exchanged. Another problem would be the weather, you might have all the water in the world but if a pipe freezes and bursts, all that water goes to waste.
Isn’t it pretty easy to just stay home on Black Friday?

lol I live in Alaska and I have never heard of a pipe freezing in Alaska. Insulating your pipes helps.

@@JdracosI don't know if he should count those though, seeing as the military likely took all their stuff out of there (since they have to ensure nothing gets in or out, thus needing the resources).

Mat you need to do a theory on the new trail ruins added in Minecraft. I am digging one out in a creative world and their appears to be cobblestone pats and village profession blocks like looms and grindstones. (Also the main part of the ruin that I’m taking about is 10+ block below the part on the surface)
I think one thing you forgot about Matpat was mass graves. Parks would be used for mass burials once cemeteries are full.

Another reason you wouldn’t want to use central park as a farm (at least in the world of the division) is that it got turned into a mass grave site. So you’re very likely to be either burned alive by cleaners or catch the green poison yourself

Just one thing to point out: many of the parks in the Division's NYC woukd be unusable for farming because they were turned into mass graves during the initial green poison outbreaks.
Hell Central Park was the main grave sight for all of Manhattan

It’s funny you talked about skipping geography class. Specific things about states were never discussed in geography high school class. I actually learned a lot about New York in this video. This was very interesting! I’d enjoy similar geography based videos about states and their history. This was really cool.

I'm not surprised that Staten Island has a lot of guns considering our violent history. I'm glad to know that Queens was up there in comparison. As someone that lived there, I'm glad Queens was the best choice out of them.

NGN is the I guess “Matpat” of The Division if anyone liked the premise or idea of The Division you can learn lore and other stuff from NGN.
Edit: I’m going to say some things I think I should point out (TD1 Lore wise) Central Park was turned into a mass grave sight so my bet is that the others could become mass grave sites as well and those places are badly contaminated and you have to take in the account of the threats possible PMCs, Criminals, Rikers, and Cleaners. You also have other gangs and whatever there are as enemies.

I'd like to take a moment and just thank MatPat for explaining the burrows in the start of the video. Im sure to an American all of this is obvious, but to a european its all weird. Previus to this my only knowledge of New York came from the INSOMNIAC spiderman games

As fun as this is to look at, I have some serious doubts as to anyone being able to build a successful garden in real life, given the fact that it can take up to 2 years to build the needed microbe density in a compost pile to actually make your plants grow.
But forgetting about actually food and gardening capabilities, it’s still fun to think about this from a tactical standpoint of ammunition and population. Thanks for another great video MatPat!

MatPat is missing out one crucial point in my opinion in his theory. The green poison is spread through bank notes. So you have to take the density of population and the amount of cash into your consideration. Including this, I'd say Manhattan isn't that densely populated in the aftermath of the virus outbreak. Other Burroughs might also change drastically in population

Guess what, matpat, recently I found a game called love and pies and it’s a fuse 2 type of puzzle game with homescapes, build-a-home elements thrown in, I only saw the probably only ad for this game but at the end I saw the main character go in a basement with words saying something like “ what mystery await”. Just watch the ad or ads to give more context
i feel the issue here is implying that everyone in manhattan's gonna survive the initial outbreak, especially with how dense it is. honestly, all you need to do is wait a day or two and half of manhattan would be wiped. it's only a matter of waiting, next thing you know, there's more than enough resources to go around.

Hey! For Staten Island you talked about plowing. A lot of modern-day farming is "No Plow" after harvest you keep the plants and plant over the next season without plowing the earth.

This is why you always get a property or have a freind or family that has property in the middle of nowhere in a rural setting. Like the Adirondacks and Catskills. That is where you want to be in a disaster.
7:21 isn't that just a massive ancient landfill? That's exactly what it is. The trash we throw in the dump aren't burned or recycled in any capacity, THEY LITERALLY DUMP IT, COVER WITH DIRT, and hope that trash has bio-degradable plastic/other Earthly materials to decompose. This is what Linus Tech Tips keep mentioning in his videos. But my pet peeve even with bio-degradable material is it's still being thrown under a mountain anyway, we're losing material to make products because of the landfills they'll never dig up, and what if there's a neighborhood built on top of it and the world needs that material... Dig up the whole neighborhood and ruin lives just to dig back up what was dumped there, HOW HAVE WE NOT SOLVED THIS?!

Honestly clicked on this recognizing the Statue of Liberty from Cloverfield on the cover, and proceeded to do a bunch of research on the next movie and behind the scenes stuff
One major flaw in this logic... Those areas with the largest population density would likely end up with the lowest population density after the green fever has run rampant through the population. So this switches a lot of the variables at play.
