This hits home. A very concise and relatable, deeply human telling of the events in the HL canon. In my own life I've experienced trauma, and had to live with PTSD in the aftermath; which is in addition to CPTSD from more long term abuse. I've also faced sleep deprivation psychosis, night terrors, addiction, and other long term psychological issues. Its all entangled in a way that doesn't follow a clear cause and effect as much as they all amplify each other in an ever re-cycling chain reaction. You might even call it a cascade. The one thing I would point out is something a few others in the comments are bringing up: for the most part PTSD symptoms usually don't arise until after the cause has abated. The one common thread between the experience of the trauma and the aftermath is usually hyperarousal. A jittery, paranoid, and either aggressive or panic-y state of mind depending on your personality going in. In the more long-term trauma exposure experience that results in CPTSD you'll often settle into dissociation/depersonalization/derealization symptoms. I have always thought Gordon would probaly have some type of trauma from the black mesa incident, and how sudden it was. I think at first Gordon didn’t want to be humanity’s savior, but he was chosen by G Man and mentally Gordon was changed forever as he was basically trapped into doing what g man wants him too. He almost never got a break from fighting the combine and the aliens from the first game (forgot their name). Great video!
in 3 days, he survived the Black Mesa Incident that lasted from morning to overnight, fought the US Army Special forces, went on a days worth of rampaging against the combine, almost losing Alyx, kind of losing Eli, and now he's forced to get back up after suffering a major fracture at the end of HL:A. Not to mention, Barney Calhoun suffered almost the same events, except he had to endure 20 years of combine rule.
I would love to see game like Spec Ops: The line in setting of Half life, the game expanding and going deeper into feelings of Gordon Freeman, or at least someone who had survived 7 hour war.
I see Gman as less of a puppeteer and more of an opportunist. Even if we just look at what he has done with Gordon Freeman exclusively and not at Alyx Vance, Barney Calhoun, or Adrian Shepherd. He saw what was coming up and decided to strike some deals, hoping to find a gem out of it.. Found Gordon Freeman. Used said gem to make the best of another situation, found Alyx Vance. ( That said, he for some reason lets Barney Calhoun slips through his hands but snatches up Gordon Freeman, Alyx Vance and Adrian Shepherd. I guess Gman just did not see as much use for Barney Calhoun as he did the others. Though Adrian Shepherd might be one he lets go since.. As far as we know of, he has done nothing with since acquiring him. This is of course fully assuming he did not collect Barney Calhoun during the end bits of Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and also not during the events of Half-Life Alyx )
Fair point, that does not mean he didn’t strip Gordon from his free will though. Regarding Shepard, I fuckin hate valve for not picking up his story as he seems to be somewhat of fan favourite considering many mods and even short live action movies made about him. Something I've considered is that Half-Life's linear game design is a representation of the Gman ensuring events will always play out in Gordon's favour. Essentially the game/Gman sets Gordon up on a pre-determined path so he can be used as an agent, a puppet for Gman's employers' mysterious unknowable goal. The ability to save/load/respawn can also be interpreted as Gman giving Gordon an opportunity to re-experience the situation and learn from something that had previously killed him, ultimately ensuring Gordon survives it this time around. Gman is known to have a degree of influence over time, so this 'canonical respawning' could happen within the game lore. So in order to learn from his previous attempts, Gordon needs to have retained the memory of every deadly situation the Gman has allowed him to re-experience. If this interpretation of the game is considered, then Gordon carries the memory of every way he's died in the past. That's...fucking inconceivably traumatising.

HL2 + episodes were where he could really turn berserk becuse of mental punishment. What if he was put to stasis becuse of that? He is living weapon.
Thinking about it "logically" Gordon probably doesn't have PTSD because of the G-Man. He's a pawn to the G-Man's plan and what use would he be if he's suffering from something like PTSD? It would just make him an inefficient pawn, considering G-man's vast powers being capable of preventing his most effective enforcer from not having to deal with the guilt and mental stress of everything Gordon has experienced shouldn't be too difficult.

Holy shit this needs more views. You've got a sub from me.
Where is the part where (SPOILER) Alyx gone and Eli suddenly alive and give your his Crowbar back? I wanted to know what he feels after that.
The part you are talking about is from HL:Alyx, I thought if I should add it or no as I haven’t played it and decided to not. It is part of half life’s multiverse so I am not really sure how I should treat that.
But you have a fair point, Gordon would most likely be extremely confused.
Do psychopaths get ptsd? What about crazy people?
Not to make you uncomfortable but Gordon is a mirror image of you 😂. Silent protagonist in which you fuel your emotions and thoughts
great vid, but it's quite hard to listen with your voice
Hi, thanks for feedback. I know, my mics eq has been horribly set. All the new videos have bass turned down and so try to eliminate booming.
Great video! Keep it up!
Script is good but lacks polishing
Keep on going 👍
The audio was painful to listen to
Your voice felt very bourry, as if you had a cough
Had to raise the volume all the way up to comprehend your voice which made it painful to listen to
Speak a loud and clear when talking
Feedback taken, audio in later videos is better.
bro, breen's speech is like double the volume of your voice, or lower the first one or make yourself more AUDIBLE YOU ARE SAYING A LOT OF COOL THINGS but you talk like you are hiding from a killer under a bed
nice!
cant even hear what your saying hehe to much bass added but im sure its an intressting vedio
That has been fixed for next videos. But thanks for the feedback
Great video. You’ve definitely got potential.
Thanks mate, much love ;)
