    Very interesting hack. I'm sure someone will still end up blaming you despite your warnings because no one takes responsibility for their own mistakes anymore.

    250mw is as much as the ELRS developers recommend without active cooling. Would be interesting to see how this would hold up. Cool to see it's possible though.

      Funnily enough the TBS Crossfire Micro TX will do 1W quite happily without any cooling fan. I've always wondered how that was possible.

    Pretty cool that it can be done. As you say, in a pinch can be useful . Is there a hack to cut a small hole on the back of the radio, and bolt a small fan on it? That may be helpful, if there's room. 🤔

    • @MCsCreations
      @MCsCreations 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Exactly, there are pretty small but strong fans, used for rc cars escs.

      @@MCsCreations You for sure dont need a special high CFM cooling fan like those RC ESC fans. A simple noctua 12v would suffice or any small 40mm fan. Active cooling is active cooling you dont need a leaf blower to achieve active cooling. If that were the case my gaming computer would sound like a jet engine.

      @@MCsCreationsMy knowledge and passion of computers comes from industry standard servers as my dad was IT. I had a 1u IBM x3550 when i was younger to play with. Server's fans ran at 12k RPM at max and pulled close to 4 amps at 24v each and literally no joke sounded like a plane about to take off when it ramped up the speed. Now that im thinking about it, maybe i could make a drone out of those fans ahahahahaha now that ive thought about it seriously i might literally be able to make a plane and use them as ducted fans. Now i just might try LOL

      Add small heatsink and fan. Did for my moonlight that's inside tank rc. Enclosed

  • @Brody_Port
    @Brody_Port 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Took mine apart and looks like there are some 5v pads on the back. So in theory could add a fan to that just not sure if those would control to turn the fan on if it went over whatever threshold was set in the radio. I want to do this but probably only will if I can add a fan to it

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You could add a fan and just add a button to the back of your radio to turn the fan on and off

    • @marblekitfpv
      @marblekitfpv  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I'm sure someone clever will figure that out now that I've released this video.

      @@marblekitfpv If I still had my Pocket I would’ve done it myself. I’ve already added a button to the top of my Boxer so I can turn on/off the LEDs for the gimbals so it’s definitely doable to turn on and off a fan 🤘🏼

  • @nathanz7205
    @nathanz7205 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    With 250 being the max default, 500mw is already double what you had. This is an amazing "hack" even if you only keep it at 500mw. i wouldnt run 1w without a fan or more thermal mass as in a bigger headsink.

  • @MCsCreations
    @MCsCreations 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Really interesting hack indeed, Albert! Thanks! 😃
    I don't have one of those, so I don't know about the internal space... But there are pretty small but strong esc fans out there. For rc cars, you know? And you can buy them separately.
    Anyway, happy holidays!
    Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    I seen someone had installed a Boxer 1W ELRS Chip and with it installed in the Pocket, you could see the Aluminum Heat Sink from the back through the clear style controller like this..
    That was a while ago, about beginning of the summer so i dont remember exactly, but they said it was the Boxer chip swapped in since it just uses the standard 5-pin module bay style connection.
    Have you confirmed that the Pocket and Boxer ELRS modules are the same? All i see is the 1W RF Chip for sale as Boxer parts for i think it was $30, but i cant find a picture of the pocket elrs RF chip now to compare it too..
    Its cool to see that the Pocket will accept the Boxer ELRS FW and open it up to 1W though.. Maybe ill just add a few small venting holes and a small fan. That way to run the 1W on Dynamic alittle safer to use all the time i think it would be fine, especially after some Temp testing!
    As much as i love the Pocket, i still think i will end up with a Boxer one day, and i still just love my Tango2 and maybe even look into doing the mod where you put an LERS chip like the stock Pocket's inside the Tango2 and route the ribbon cable to it on the inside. That way you dont need to have an external module on the back just to have it compatible with CRSF & ELRS..

      The stock pocket internal module also has a heatsink. The difference is the pocket doesn't have a fan but the Boxer does. The modules are similar but not exactly the same. You will have to ask Radiomaster what the exact differences are as they are engineered slightly differently.

      @marblekitfpv  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Actually, the physical module is the same (Pocket). Just using the firmware for the Boxer module. There's no need to even open up the radio if you want to do this.

    Probably can be done to the TX16S as well..?

    • @marblekitfpv
      @marblekitfpv  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Isn't that already rated for 1W? Doing a mod like this would be pointless. Also, I don't think the firmware will be compatible as the modules are not similar.

    • @velocistafpv
      @velocistafpv 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I bought a Radiomaster internal ELRS module to replace my internal 4-in-1 module which pins for external module has gone bad and if not mistaken, the internal ELRS module is rated only at 250mW and doesn’t have a fan for the module (I’m using an external Ranger module, got the internal one just for redundancy). Not sure if the ELRS version of TX16S from factory does come with a fan and 1W.

      Goes pretty far already on the stock 250mw.. This is just for maybe setting it to 500mw Dynamic Power in a specific situation.. Its not meant to be used like that unless you add the heatsink & like a stock 1W Radiomaster would have..

    What's the use case for 1W ELRS? I lose my walksnail/analog video long before i lose any signal on elrs 250mW..

    • @marblekitfpv
      @marblekitfpv  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Probably for people who fly in areas with a lot of interference. The noise floor is a lot higher so more power (signal) is needed to maintain LQ.

    cant you just do what you do with the elrs firmware and bump the power to 1w like you can with the ranger firmware in the 10.0.0.1/hardware.html settings....

    • @JoshFPV24
      @JoshFPV24 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Nope, the default firmware limits the max power to 250mw so the only way is to replace the firmware as he mentioned.
