Great! Will Bill Davison certainly took no prisoners, Cutty Cutshall indeed and Peanuts Hucko always swinging, melodic in the extreme, the rhythm section swinging Eddie Condon on his 4 string guitar knew where the time was and Buzzy Drootin doesn't speed up in his solos keeps grooving along a great band.
for yrs I admired Satchmo & his all stars, still do ,when I discovered this group their everybit as good. Bill is on cornet where Louis was strictly trumpet & he sang. Cutty on trombone is every bit as good as Trummy Young great solos. Peanuts Hucko what can I say he was with Condon & Louis ,terrific clarinetess.. Man we just don't have pure jazz bands like that anymore, Sad to say. Glad someone posted this video.
Always loved these guys who could actually play . Being a trombonist i like the way Cutty gets around on the horm. Reminds me of when i 1st started learning
If you ever wondered what it someone means when they say a band "swings" then listen to this!!!! It's GREAT!!!!! Royal Garden Blues makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!!!
Wild Bill Davison, Michael "Peanuts" Hucko, and Johnny Varro performed at the Los Angeles Classic Jazz Festivals (1984-1993). It was a special privilege to listen to them perform.
pete barnard Thanks for this. Mesmerising. Got to see Louis twice ( London 56, Bristol 62) but sadly none of these boys. Have some Condon on record but this film is so GOOD !
Been listening to Eddies bands since the 1950's, as a trombonist I love Cutty Cutshall how melodic and how much does he swing, the other muso's play OK to. (That's a joke, Jack).
Eddie Condon, sabia muito bem escolher seu "time".
Funny thing. I have this, and a few other "Goodyear" TV programs on 16mm film. About 35 years ago, long before TH-cam, I offered these for sale on VHS video and promptly was warned by the Danish (!) owners of the copyright (or so they claimed) that they would sue me for everything I had if I didn't withdraw the videos immediately! And now it's here for everybody to see and to copy....
They must have told Eddie not to cut up. I have an old vinyl album "Eddie Condon's World of Jazz" which includes all these luminaries (and others). Eddie wrote the liner notes, which were hysterical. What a bunch of great musicians, who were also great characters.
He started on plectrum banjo, so when he switched to guitar he got a four-string tenor and tuned it the same way (CGBD). He was only interested in playing rhythm, no solos.
This may be the best thing that I have ever organically found on the internet.

The poor kids today will never appreciate this good music as much as we did.
vanman243 They can all go to TH-cam as I do.
Nonsense!
@@bobboscarato1313 Yes, but where can You go to hear and dance to this kind of music LIVE ?
@@ignorecorporatenews I have no idea!
@@ignorecorporatenews : Lets thank TH-cam to at least watch the old stars!
It's extremely hard to stop listening to this wonderful group of very talented stars!
I wish I could experience for one moment the sheer euphoria these musicians must have felt when they clicked like this.

Not to mention that before Peanuts there was Edmond Hall, who left the band of Condon to play a few years in the All-Stars of Louis.

Marvellous!! Thank you so much for posting!
¡Wow! ¡Que belleza de música! Esto es un tesoro.

Classic Chicago style jazz at its best!!
What a GREAT video!!!!!!!
Good to see Eddie again - Thank You
Will Bill at his best with his accustomed harsh sound; love it!
bob boscarato I used to not like it... now I do.
@@AustinCasey I'm glad!

Color video and good stereo sound, unusual for old jazz legends. Enjoy!
Un'autentica meraviglia

I wonder if they had overhead microphones? Nice balance between instruments! Sometimes the trombone gets drowned out by the higher pitched players.

Old times! Muito bom!
Almost as good as when Pee Wee Russell as in the band. Love the footage.
thats jazz
Yes indeedy 👍🏻🔥
jump swing!!!'
A great performance - pity about the silly added on titles at the beginning though.
Was that Charley Queener on piano? Played at Nick's,1948-
Dan cátedra!
How come that nobody is dropping a line about the swinging rhythm section?
what year us this from?
looks like 1963
on first tune , I hear a sax, but dont; see them......
Can anyone explain why Eddie played tenor (4 string) guitar?
He started on plectrum banjo, so when he switched to guitar he got a four-string tenor and tuned it the same way (CGBD). He was only interested in playing rhythm, no solos.
WHAT YEAR is this Please?

Not Buzzy Drootin...It's Danny Barcelona.
I believe the drummer is the great Cliff Leeman
I think it is Buzzy Drootin.

А кларнтист не хуже Бенни Гудмана
.
There's no way you can hear the tenor guitar
Superb playing! Too bad it's a 1/2 tone sharp!
