I would very much appreciate seeing a video going down the path of Dispute. Knowing the process form a creator as yourself would give us much more confidence that we are doing things right. Possibly include in that video the branches of situations that could occur? That would be INCREDIBLY VALUABLE just as this video was. The topic of helping us creators dig ourselves out of the hole is talked about, but no one goes into the details or the process.
Very true.
I agree
04:34 it is possible to undo this after saving, there is an option to revert to the original version and you can get the trimmed section back.
Thanks Nolan, hugely helpful. I've had a couple of videos affected and I had no idea where to easily sort it out. Thanks for this
same!! Thank you Nolan.
I've had a number of copyright claims from music companies on a number of my beginner guitar tutorials. They claim that I've used a melody from some such song. I know I haven't. So I check the part that they're claiming and as usual it's part of a chord progression, there is no meleody or tune to speak of. So I end up writing why they can't claim it. And usually what happens is the owners have 30 days to dispute my claim but the never do. Then I get an email saying there is no copyright claim any more. In fact, my latest upload has a copyright claim and as of today they have 18 days left to respond to my claim. I've had a few claims like that recently and won them. I have other tutorials with a copyright claim that I don't dispute because I am teaching a song and that's fair enough.
Thank you for sharing this. It really help understand the copyright options and that there are more than one options
The problem is that (in my experience) if a video has material that is falsely claimed under the content-ID system the algorithm discriminates against it so it will never perform well. Even once the claim is relelased, the video will never get the normal number of views so it can be a huge amount of wasted work when you're a full-time TH-camr. What's even worse is that sometimes, in the case of bogus claims, the claimant doesn't actually release the video but simply fails to respond and that means it takes the full 30 days before the claim to be removed -- meaning that whatever revenue that vid might have earned won't be paid out for an extra month. I license *all* the music I use in my videos but I'm still regularly penalized by YT's flawed content-ID system or by bogus claims. Why can't creators with a proven track-record of not abusing copyright be given a little more weight than some no-name who's chancing their luck by filing a bogus copyright claim in the hope it won't be disputed?
today, I got a copyright strike from "sony music company Japan" but the problem there is I didn't even use a sound they made or anything they own? The only song I used was Let The World Burn By Chris Grey. What do you think I should do here?
@@AkemaEditz I now have a video that has been claimed by no less than eight different parties -- for the *same* piece of music which isn't actually owned by any of them. Every now and then I get another email as someone else claims the track. In this case I don't care and I just wonder how multiple claims for the same track can even be considered to be legit.
@@xjet Damn, you should really sue them. That isn't legal
I had something from TH-cam audio library that was fine for several years and I used it in my livestreams and all the sudden everything with that song started getting claims. It’s been so annoying.
This thing with youtube and the third party looks to own every song ever made
I did not realize you could trim out a segment or even mute any portions of the original video .
I forgot to add...
I thought you could either dispute the claim or delete the video
Thanks a million Nolan! I will pass along this Super Helpful video. Btw... Sean sent me here☺️
Same here!
In the vein of this topic, would love to see a video on reaction channels and others like it
Are you gonna show one with the Dispute path? Just so we have a guideline of what to say and how to proceed?
THIS IS SO RELEVANT TO SOOOO MANY PEOPLE‼️ 👏🏽
Where do i start? i´ll try to keep it brief!! i copy+pasted a video from youtube recently, and edited it to be uploaded as a youtube short! i thought no Problem. About 1 hour later, i was told it has copyright material in it. So i clicked on the details, to be told that between 0.35-0.51 has copyright material, so i naturally thought that if i edit out this chunk then the video will be copyright free!!! Then this morning again another copyright issue, this time they said between 9secs -35 secs it was copyrighted, so again i edited that chunk out, and thought that will be the end of that!!! then today, i have been told that my video has been totally removed!!!!??? i am stunned!!! Does this mean that videos with copyright material cant be edited??
For cases when non-copyrighted music gets flagged...would raising (or lowering) the pitch of the music by a half step or so be enough to avoid the flag? I wonder if anyone here has tried that...
hi think i have just watched your video to the end, and i already followed your steps, regarding triming out the parts which were copyrighted, and got contacted again with another copyright claim!! to remove another part of a video, which i did! the third time, i had the video removed!!!
is this three strkes and your out??
If I use your videos clips in my channel, do you give me a copyright ? Just asking 😅
Same question 😅
If a creator is adding a NOTE LIKE "DO NOT COPY WITHOUT CONSENT IN WRITING" I would not just use it, I would ask for permission in writing. Think about it.! Spend the money to get everything you need to go in production, spend many hours, days, weeks, see yourself , your work done, Now ask yourself, Who Are You?
It's all about transformation! If you simply straight rip the content from the channel then that is not allowed. But if you compile information, comment, or review it then you can post pretty much anything.
Can you guys please tell me something?? Do we get copyright video for live video as well?? One of my video is a live video of a group that I screenshot and uploaded in my channel but I ended up getting copyright. Though I didn't get any email. So how am I suppose to remove that copyright? 😢 I thought it's ok to upload live since I recorded it on my own😢.
@@Oopsie_kpop Click on copyright , next click on review issues, follow the information as it tells you the copyright claim . Tip, before someone else is uploading on your channel, watch the entire video, make sure it is ok, as you the owner is responsible. Read on TH-cam about what we can show and say and what we cannot. read about copywriter
what is point of being a creator if we cant even upload our favorite music in a video
For real tho
Omg finally someone says that
Think about making a great TH-cam video and then someone start using your video and making money from you and you’re not getting paid for none of it. I think this was happening to musicians, they will put they blood sweat and tears just to give it away for free.
@@gotraderpros we should get paid for using music, at least 50/50 profit spilt, why bother putting up the earn tab section if you cant get paid for adding your favorite music inside a video game video to listen
@@gotraderpros we should get paid for using music, at least 50/50 profit spilt, why bother putting up the earn tab section if you cant get paid for adding your favorite music inside a video game video to listen
I continually get an ineligible on all videos. It's the intro song I use and I have the licence to use it. But despite my disputing the claim everytime and always winning, I continually get hit.
Frankly it's a ball ache
Is there anything I can do to stop the claims? I contacted TH-cam but got an automated reply about copyright which was zero help. Any suggestions would be great thanks
Please do a video on how to monetize a lyrics channel, there's non on TH-cam
Can I still upload that video even if it’s copyrighted because I don’t even want the money…? I really need to know, I’m losing hope on my channel
In my opinion a copyrighted video doesn’t get as much views as one without, so rather use free music and keep uploading your content
@@SerenityGamezathx ❤
Yes you can. Copy right strikes are bad. Other else your fine
Should i start with my regional language which is Hindi or With English in which i am not that fluent but I can make it better.Which approach is a better choice?
Thanks for sharing. I realized there are other options to do with it. We're still a little confused about songs though. Why covers are allowed and then those who do the covers claims a copyright from their cover while the original owner doesn't.
Cover songs are not "allowed" (not sure why he says that, in the video). If you want to cover someone's song, and not run up against copyright restrictions, you have to contact the copyright holder, get permission, pay royalties, etc..
Thanks for sharing! Does this apply for TH-cam shorts as well?
Question?
When are the best days to live stream videos? And what do I talk about for an hour? Lol my main problem with livestreaming is figuring out how to keep it interesting
What tri pod to buy so that it can record me without asking anyone to record for me. I want the top view because I would like to do cooking videos. Thanks 🙏
If I have some shorts that have copyrighted music but it says " No restrictions ( shorts policy)" so can I monetize my channel?
I made a short earlier and it got a little thing where people in Belarus and Russia cannot see it. The some was in the whole short. I'm a small Roblox animation creator who tries to give as much credit as possible. And I'm not sure if what I'm doing is right, because I am not sure if I am even allowed to use Riptide in the video, but I also don't want to replace the song from it being in sync with some of the beats. So, some advice on what to do would be helpful. I watched the whole video and I'm considering things, but I'd like some recommendations.
if i upload clips from your (or anyone else) video and give credit to you, will it be copywright claim?
I can’t trim my copyrighted video out because the entire video is the song. And I can’t just mute it because I remixed the song so people could listen to it. And I don’t wanna replace it either because of the same reason for the second sentence. And I know that the Disput option won’t work because TH-cam has always been very strict. So I don’t know what to do.
Very helpful! Thanks.
it wouldn’t let me it’ll say “editing is disabled because has a dispute claim”?
Thank you, this was so helpful!
If you do trim your video or amend it using their tools, do you keep the views you have already got on the video, or does the counter go back to zero? Thanks for the great video! 😀
Helpful, thank you
Thank you!!!
Thank you for this
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you ❤
Thank you so much I wasn't able to make live videos because of too many copyright strikes thanks a lot
Thanks for sharing this.
This setting is only available on laptop?
Currently disputing a Content ID claim I received despite transforming the song and incorporating it into a new satirical work. Let’s see what happens after the 30-day dispute response window.
So what happened?
@@ElsyOO366 - Thanks for asking. Claimant didn’t respond within the 30-day window, so the claim expired and all is good.
@@24X7CARZ Happy for you. That's nice.
Very relevant topic and great tutorial! Thanks!
Thank you for watching!💖
If I wanna get monetized and I post the same content but I don't get any strikes and no copyright claims on my videos can I still apply to get monetized or would my channel get denied?
My issue is when you get an instrumental that was downloaded years ago then it's randomly copyrighted which isn't fair for us.
Ikr I’m using non copy right music and youtube still does it bruh🤦🏻
@@FootballingTheWorld Yea it's annoying it really is.
I currently have 1 copyright strike on my channel but I see that my views and visibility got affected so do I have to wait 90 days for everything to be restored?
Thanks bro you helped me so much
I still have a question i make edits and for that i need music so i can't trim it out so what should i do...😐...
Hi. I had a copyright claim on a part of my video. How can i replace the sound on that part with my voice. I don't want to put music on that part. Thank you
Very useful! Thank you! 👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Always happy to help!
HELP. I have had No ability to rip shorts from My Own videos for 8 months now... The Remix drop down is available but can only remix music, cannot create shorts video, no option.
1) I only use music from TH-cam Studio App "Attribution Not Required" though 8 months ago when this issue started I noticed when TH-cam runs the "checks" TH-cam will add Liscence (Liscence Added) to the video I'm assuming for the music, but this has never effected before and I'm using the same music as 10 months ago and those videos I can make a shorts video.
2) Video and clip sampling is ON but I "could have" turned this off for a moment and then turned it back on, sampling has now been back on for many months but all new videos still same issue.
3) as far as I know if TH-cam adds a Liscence I should still be able to make a short from my own video?? Yes I use music, have been for years, and last year used the same music with no issues. I'm not using copyright music.
4) this has cost my channel so kuch momentum because I can't make shorts from my new videos.
Please help
Just Search 3 Sons RC on TH-cam if you need to refrence.
If I upload a video that I play for example godfather theme on piano is this ok or not?Is it allowed?
I recently got a copyright claim using an original song I recorded myself to use in my video. The song it claims I borrowed a melody from is from some publishing company I've not heard of and I was never able to find the song anywhere. Makes me wonder if there may be something fishy going on. I Contested it and as of yet have not gotten any feedback. Will see. I've used the song in other videos with no issue and also given it to a other much much larger channel to use in their videos as needed and they've not gotten a claim. Weird stuff. By the way, I have a whole play list of simple stuff I've recorded that anyone is welcome to use.
Sounds like they’re just trying to stress you out needlessly, smh.
@@chicanoinparadise Well.. they've got to do better than that. Not much I stress over any more.. lol..
Dude i just hacked the guy that copied my video’s and hacked him everytime he sign on account lol
I think the biggest issue is the songs that they give for shorts sounds. I made an edit and used the sounds they gave me but I still got copyrighted? Like it’s not fair and also the same sound had 78K OTHER USES like what.
Same here
Doesn’t work when we are asked to trim out all of video basically and leave the section that we don’t care about 😅 but thanks for explaining 🙏🏻
Is it possible to monetize a singing TH-cam channel as long as you reference and give credit to the parties who wrote/composed the song and state who owns the audio rights in the description?
If I have a song license is there a way to let youtube know that I own the rights to the song so it doesn't get flagged every time I use it?
Thank you
Helpful Video, THANKS
Yea playing games on TH-cam I get so much like why. So I turned down the music to just make it go away.
Lmfaooo same 😭
Can I do this as I'm live streaming? Ill walk around Gatlinburg TN with cars going by blasting music 🎵
how about Copyright but it says it doesn't affect your channel, what does that mean.
The video is still viewable, there is no strike, but you can’t monetise it.
Thank you ❤❤❤
The amount of times I've had fake copyright claims on my videos and have disputed.
Hello This Is Art Of Techno thank you for this amazing video ❤
Thanks.
I got one yesterday and the content is all mine and the music is from my paid filmora software.
So don't understand why I got on.
Just refute it. It will probably go away.
@ProtectiveDadPranks uploading another video yesterday and got another "copyright," and all the content is mine.
Must be a troll!
@ProtectiveDadPranks as big as TH-cam is you would have thought that there would be a customer services centre you can call just like eBay, and we all know how big ebay is! A global phenomenon.
We keep getting these when it's our own music. ..
I don't have /select option/ in my phone
Thanks 😅😅
Boss i am your Biggest fan iam from Nepal
What if the option is only showing 'dispute' ??
Hi I’ve been streaming Fortnite with Licensed music mute all also everything else with music off next thing I get copyright on my channel keeping it 💯 CLEAN I now feel I’m losing the love to make more content 😭
Someone is currently copyright claiming me for videos that don't belong to them but I keep getting rejected in my counter claim
How do you make amv's?
It said I can’t click the trim part I can only click the appeal
Thanks because I was just recording a normal game that has no copyright and right when I check the video it's copyrighted for no reason
Thanks🏅
I Do Song Covers and I Always Got Copyright Claims, i can't trim my song covers cause there would not be a song cover at all & i can't mute it too
The Dispute thing is very complicated
Dang you a trailblazer fan, so am I
Will removing the claims affect the view count of the video?
Thanks for your useful tip now I can send video without any copyright©️ Thanks alot
There's an inequity in how creators are treated when there's an alleged copyright violation. I just made a Scriabin video that got flagged for supposed copyright issues, when the music I played is public domain. It should be on the accuser to prove violation, not on the content creator. Also, the content creator's video shouldn't be automatically demonetized for up to 30 days while the accuser decides how to respond. Also, if content creator channels can be deleted for "fraudulent disputes" (as TH-cam threatens when allowing the dispute), the accuser should be punished for fraudulent accusations of copyright violations. No?
Of course I'm not monetized anyway so it doesn't really matter at this point, but it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing, lol. I just made a video that got flagged for supposed copyright issues, when the music I played is 100% in the public domain as the composer (Scriabin) is long dead. I'm disputing , of course.
Hard disagree! I’ve been fighting rampant copyright theft from my Instagram and TH-cam channels recently and the automated and manual reporting process is fantastic. The onus for using media that isn’t copyrighted should 100% be the creator’s responsibility. The current system is one of the few things IG/Meta and TH-cam/Google do very well.
@@chrisluckhardt Interesting to have a view from the other side of the issue--thanks. I suspect we don't disagree on everything, though! Producers should not be claiming copyright for works they obviously don't have rights over, like works of composers who have been dead for over a century. If they do so repeatedly they should face some consequence.
This is a common issue in the classical music world [edit: search "TwoSet copyright" for a more high-profile example]. These accusers they don't seem to get any penalty for their obviously false copyright claims. Instead, the creator needs to file a dispute, get threatened to have the channel deleted if some unnamed person deems the dispute "fraudulent", and then deal with up to 30 days' wait (and demonetization on the video) for the accuser to "review".
Now, I'm sure you're cool and not making specious copyright claims all over the place. And I'm sure there's no "perfect" solution. But there needs to be some means to keep bad actors honest.
@@MarcPlaysPiano That'a all fair and thanks for the insight - I don't have first-hand experience with classical music or public domain copyright issues. A penalty for too many false copyright claims would be a good step toward fairness.
I don't want people or businesses generating revenue off my content without a license, equitable agreement, or both. I was recently featured on Inside Edition, NY Post, and other media outlets for filming an abandoned McDonald's on a remote Alaska island. It's been a major time investment dealing with all the copyright thefts across all social platforms! But I let a few slide because they were for educational purposes and Fair Use applied.
Cool, and yeah, that sounds like a pain to sort through all that. Good luck with your future videos!! 👊
What if Your Getting Copyright Strike from your own Original work uploaded via Distrokid 🤔?
I made an animation meme that alot of people do so i made it with the song "everyone is dumb." Cause thats what the animation meme and song is called, I think its by mazie and I got Copyrighted with a warning ⚠️ sign under my video why?
