- Today, I share the results of my latest eBay Challenge. The eBay challenge is where I try and sell every baseball card found in a random hobby box. For this challenge, I tried selling every baseball card from a box of 2023 Bowman Sterling.
Find out how many baseball cards I sold, how much profit or loss I took on the box and find out how much value you can expect out of a box of 2023 Bowman Sterling.
I break down each baseball card sold, the total amount of sales, how much eBay charged me and show you the total return on investment for the 2023 Bowman Sterling hobby box.
The goal of the eBay challenge video series is to find out if the retail prices of modern baseball cards is too high, too low, or reasonable based on how much you can expect to get back when selling baseball cards on ebay.

Loving this series! Keep it going please.
Love this series man!
Thanks I got Topps Chrome Update dropping tomorrow.
Hey 1Cent . Like the idea of this series. I look at it another way. I buy new releases, rip for my pc (keep a few for myself), and sell all other good cards. Try to break even.
Trying to break even is the tough part for sure. But ripping for the PC never gets old.
This one hit where I expected. I usually skip this release as I don't really like the design and when I have ripped I have lost heavily. Some sets have a niche following and I think this is one of them. great video series.
Great series. Please continue! Show us the reality of cards.
Yeah, the truth hurts sometimes, but it's better than the lies of people saying "it's an investment journey and the hobby is growing and everything is happy go lucky" - the reality for an average collector is much different.
Love this video and series! Feedback: Maybe wait a bit longer to post results so we can see what the other cards sold for? Also I bet update chrome is going to be a HUGE loss. That set is terrible!
Chrome Update drops tomorrow so watch for that. So you're aware, as cards sell, I will be revising all of the results for every set as the series progresses... So for example, since the last results video, a Anna Leigh Waters card from A&G X sold for $2.49. That sale was added to the Allen & Ginter X results.
Good stuff thanks
Thank you for watching!
Another great video. Again I believe your profit/loss % calculation is off. You spent $371.69 on the box of cards. That's the total out of pocket for you. You ended up with $61.94 in return ($87.04-$1.20-$11.53-$6.73-$5.64). Therefore you total loss is -$309.75 ($61.94-$371.69). Your total loss percentage on the box then calculates to -83.33% (-309.75/371.69).
I see the math you're doing here and I agree. I am doing 87.04 (gross sales/309.75 (loss) when I should really be doing Net sales (61.94)/total cost of box (the original payment). I'm gonna call you out and get it corrected moving forward (after the Topps Chrome Update video as that's already recorded and in the hopper). Thanks for the call-out.
It is sad that arguably the nicest quality Bowman product is one of the least desirable for resale. Great series!
It's weird, I agree, but that good old 1st Bowman logo means an awful lot and carries a lot of weight and that's what is missing from Sterling.
$$$$$$$$$ right?
Yeah, this box was rough, but it still has potential as many of the cards are still available. The question really at this point is how much of the box cost can I make back up now that the set has been out for a few weeks.
Swing and a miss you need to sell them at market price to test the hypotheses otherwise what is the point of the video
I'm basically accepting offers or sales that are at current market comps based on data from 130point.com.
The point being, you can't predict what is in the box, but based on current market prices, what ROI can you get back from a random box.
My thinking is most average collectors buy a box or two of cards so if that's the case, what can the average collector expect to get back? This video series is me t to help answer that question and also finally answer the question of "are box prices too high based on how much you can get back from a box?” - In this case, I'd say they're way too high.
I understand thanks for the video@@1CentSportsCards
