    I did well in Chrome Update but that's only because of my Corbin Carroll auto. Debut cards are hard to get anything with.
    I like your vids. Instant subscriber.

      Yeah a Carroll is basically the card you need. Congrats on the pull! Also, thanks for watching and subbing. Very much appreciated!

    Nice video! I think factoring how good a box you ripped and flipped into the equation would also help determine the worth of the set. For example, if you hit a Corbin rookie auto and still only made 50% of your value back on the box, that would be more indicative to me of an overpriced product than if you only made 20% on an average box.

      I like where you're going with this. I appreciate the suggestion!

    I think if you take your time to find some value cards that can grade, you can increase your ROI. It seems the only way to make $$$ from ripping unless you hit incredible monsters.

      I sort of agree and I grade cards consistently. But that said, the Eury Perez was about the only card worth grading in these boxes... Maybe the Matt McClain refractor as well. The only issue with grading I have is time. Sure, the McClain might be a good card to get slabbed now, but in 2 months when you get it back is it going to help you make up the $19 in grading plus the card itself. I'd have to sell the McClain for over $30 to break even. That's a gamble I can't take as the card could come back a 9 and it'd be worth marginally more than it is raw. I love grading cards, but it's gotta be a card I can sell for $40 as a 9 to make it worth doing.

    I went in pretty heavy on Chrome update. I knew the checkliist wasn't great but I wanted a shot at a 1/1 MLB debut patch even though I knew the odds were incredibly long. I maxed out on the topps presale at 4 breakers delight, 4 jumbos and 4 hobbies. got some great cards and had a lot of fun but im certain i was down or "took a bath" but I knew that going in. Great series.

    The blasters can go straight to the trash. Don't even open them. Just buy them and throw them away cuz there's nothing in them. 😒

    • @obi-wansimp-obi2046

      I don't know. I only purchased 4 blasters of update and I ended up with 1 hit per box. Not bad. I made my money back. I understand it can be a crap shoot. I'd rather just pick up a could blasters and be done with update. It's just not good enough to rip hobby, jumbo and BD.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      I don't know why this made me laugh so much but I literally had the visual of a guy walking out of Target with blasters and just tossing the blasters in the trash as he walked out and feeling OK with it. I do think the blasters are even worse for the money as all the autos are going to be stickers anyways. And maybe that's what makes the price of these a bit nuts. Most the autos are stickers and yet they charged the same prices as original TC which is mostly on card and true RCs vs. rookie Debut cards.

    & should you ever decide to give this a try & the boxes are no longer on sale, I have a couple cases on the way & would happily let you get a box at cost

      I've thought about doing it by the case. But that's a TON of listing on eBay. It takes quite a bit of time. Its probably the hardest part of doing this whole video series! 🤣 - I very much appreciate the offer and if I give it a go one day, I'll hit you up for sure!

    Yeah they need to cut back on the price of boxes. To catch up with the dip in prices on singles. They will in about a year, because people are buying singles more than they are buying boxes. Good stuff

      For now, I have shelved that series but I am planning on starting them up for 2024 again and introducing a more condensed format to them. I just haven't figured out a good way to make them 8-12 minutes vs. the close to 30 that they were.

  • @digginginthecards

    Yeah a lot of influencers are talking about how bad it is. I wont even touch it. In fact, many sets are priced too high and oversaturated these days. I usually would only buy when things go on sale.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      I see the influencer types talking about it as well, but I wanted to show actual results. I never see most influencers sharing that info. I figured it would be better to state fact over opinion.

    The market is trash right now, noone is buying baseball, pivot to something like a TCG till January. It's the same game every year, this is why I buy low in November and have Diamond Hands till Spring Training.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      Yeah, the seasonal norms are in play a bit and I call that out. But if the set comes out in Nov. Then that's when people are most likely to be buying it in theory so that's why I'm still experimenting with it. Well that and I know nothing about TCG cards...

    I’m enjoying this series. I’d recommend changing your selling format to 5 day auctions for all cards you deem “sellable”. That might give a better feel for true market price and move a few more cards to improve your ROI.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      Thanks for watching Dave. I actually am not auctioning any of the cards. They are buy it now OBO. I price them based off of comps found on 130point.com.

    This is why I only buy PC cards now days. If i do buy boxes I will usually donate the cards not worth selling to the Boys & Girls club & the YMCA. Learned from my good friend Mike. Seeing the joy on their faces are priceless. Keep up the series & educating us all man ✌

      I actually have 2 more in the hopper already. Bowman Chrome Sapphire and a fun one from Topps RIP. I'll be doing Bowman Draft as well. They can't all be losers, can they???

  • @dylanrichey8332

    Don't you lose money on 99% of all sports ripping anyways? You only make money if it's a hit. This is gambling after all and we all know you lose 99% of the time in gambling.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      Well, I'm attempting to give actual proof to that theory. I'd venture to say your odds are better than 1% when doing traditional gambling such as cards, lottery tickets, sports betting or racing so maybe the question is are sports cards a worse gamble than slot machines?

      Well, they definitely have watered down the product.

  • @cardyard608

    You paid for all the cards in the box, so for accurate results you need to sell all the cards; that probably means bundling the commons in a lot…I’m not saying that will change the results significantly, still going to lose your butt. I think all the new cards are overpriced based on value. Personally I’m not going to rip any of this, I just bought my team in a break. I bet retail results of this release would be even worse than these hobby boxes!

    • @1CentSportsCards

      I have though about doing a "complete your set" listing on the cards, but at $0.99 - $1.99 it almost ensures you make next to nothing on the sale and there's this little matter of "how much is your time worth" that makes me hesitant to do that. But you're not wrong. Selling every card in the box is the only way to truly know what you can get back in total, but the time it takes to list cards has to be something to take into account.

  • @JosephG0429

    Topps is getting like Panini with over priced and over produced products. More people are getting out of the hobby except for the breakers.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      Fanatics is really taking this hobby in an odd direction. I do wonder how the line of grow the hobby 10x works without massively over producing product and driving down the secondary value of all cards in the process.

  • @DriveForShow

    Topps puts out way too much product and severely overpriced. Shocked that consumers are still throwing money at this stuff. Cards are nice but not worth the price. Better to just get singles of guys you want.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      These videos seem to be proving this theory so far... But I've done enough breaks in my day to know that not all sets are created equally. There will be plenty that score much better than these did. I've noticed the online only exclusives seem to be the very value driven cards right now. Big releases seem too watered down to consistency score decent boxes.

    How much money do I get back while I golf or go skiing? ZERO! I consider getting 40% back from a hobby that I love, to then re-spend on another box, that is cool! it is entertainment. people need to remember that. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose big. I will never forget my biggest pulls and the feeling I got from having those rare cards in my hands. example... Precious metal gems green Michael jordan from 2013-14 UD Retro. I will never forget that day, even though i sold it 2 months later for what would be a terrible price. I still can say... yup that actually happened. That is priceless my friend.

    • @1CentSportsCards

      Yeah, the chase is what pulls people in and I get the feeling and rush people get out a hitting a big card. But I guess the question is, if this is a form of gambling, complete with the rush of hitting big, does the buy in justify the payout of the bet - ie, is it a good bet or a bad bet? And if it is betting, are the odds good or bad. The reality is spending hundreds of dollars or in many cases, thousands... Regardless of the love for it, you've got to consider the financing side of it to know if you're throwing good money at bad or not.
