One thing that adds to the Equestria girls' versions feeling off is them being high-schoolers, while the ponies are grown women with careers.

I think them being adults with actual careers could have been a more interesting and unique take. high school based stories are so overused at this point. I’m sure it appealed more to us when we were kids but now I really think it could’ve been cooler to see them as adults.
I agree, also aren't the Cutie Mark Crusaders also high schoolars in Equestria Girls when they're in elementary/preschool as ponies?
they could've at least put the characters in college where they were all studying for the careers they have in the pony world but for some reason they decided to make them be like 16-17

my only suggestion is to give Rarity some more jewelry. she just seems like a pretty big jewelry person considering she’s such a fashionista. but I really love the makeup you gave her and applejacks’s apple pupils are so cute 😭💕

@@AJTONYX I like that she made rarity darker. I never see people do that so I think it looks cool. Same with RD. And after all this is *her* perspective on the characters so it makes sense for it to be different.
Yeah Rarity’s cutie mark is also based in her sense for finding gemstones so having gems in her jewelry would be cool (also isn’t she a miner? She’s pulled multiple large boulders by herself, give her a little muscle)
I see rarity more as a dress designer than a model- like she’d rather make and wear something she finds beautiful than follow a trend
the blue lipstick was a really good way to offset that “conventional” impression imo!! i saw someone working in media in the bbc wear this vivid cerulean blue lipstick - it was really attention grabbing (so Rarity) and I think that MADE LavenderTowne’s design!! so as much as she likes making personalised garments suited for each of her clients, she too has her own way of showing who she is!! you’re so right about her not wanting to follow trends, especially with that episode where her twilight sparkle dress became trendy and she hated making it over and over again
I dont think models particularly follow trends, in my opinion rarity would be trendy, not because she follows them but because she iss the trend, she makes the trend and wears it but she would also not be scared to step away from it and do her own thing even if it doesnt become a trend, like i mean vivienne westwood wore her own dresses too, so i think rarity should too, she loves beauty so she would obviously like making herself look beautiful too and when u sew clothes u constantly have to try them on to make sure they fit, so being ur own model is also a practicality (okey srry im ranting bro)
You have to remember that Rarity in canonically beautiful and she takes great care of herself and wants everyone to see how beautiful she is, other than that she uses her pretty privilege in most episodes. I think it suits her perfectly to use a model's body for her since it was a standard of beauty among ponies.

As an autistic girl, I related to Rarity a lot. Not because of the whole posh thing, but because she's usually just trying to help people but accidentally comes off as aggressive or condescending. She's so clearly passionate about her fashion design work and she wants to share it with everyone. When she tries to teach history to Rainbow, she uses fashion as a visual aid. Whenever a big event comes up, she voluntarily makes unique clothing for all her friends because she wants them to look their best. Again, not out of ego but genuine care. And I had this issue as a kid where I'd want to help people and be friends with them and I'd accidentally come off as mean or egotistical.
So many people misunderstand fashion as something superficial but in the way Rarity utilises it, both the actual designs in comparison to actual conventional clothing we see (it often looks like met gala or fashion show exclusive clothing), and how she feels about it, it's much more of an art thing than superficial.
I completely agree with all your points! And I feel like that last statement (about Rarity appreciating fashion as an art) can really be seen in the episode "Canterlot Boutique" where Rarity is being asked to make loads of copies of one dress (I remember the dress being called "the princess dress" a lot in that episode) and being unhappy with it - at least, from what I can remember.
Also, I love seeing the positivity towards Rarity!
I swear to god, mlp the show i hc almost every character as either queer or neurodivergent.
Like genuinely. The main cast i feel like I can easily ship em all together (exept pinkie and apple jack because well.. they might be related and act like they are but idk. They still got chemistry).
I think I see all the main cast exept for apple jack and rainbow dash (thought rd as big adhd vibes) as autistic.
And even outside of the main 6.
There is pinkie pies siblings (especially maude) who have autism energy aswell and big Mac as trans vibes.
I love this show so much ahhhh.

Before I was in school, so the awkward period between Pre-K and Kindergarten, I went to a kids daycare "club" during the day so my parents could go to work, and there was a girl who always brought her stuffed cat and she'd pretend to be the cat's mom. I was thrilled to be able to play pretend as a cat cause they're my favorite animal. And yes, my favorite animal as in I was very autistically attached to cats, lol.
We were playing as cats, and she went to the little fake kitchen and started to wash her "kitten" in the sink. When I asked what she was doing she said she was bathing the kitten. I love everything about cats so I tell her "cats bathe themselves and their kittens with their tongue!" but she glared at me and said "No they don't. That's gross." and this, to me, as an undiagnosed autistic girl, was OUTRAGEOUS misinformation that I had to correct immediately. Unfortunately she thought I was bullying her the more I insisted that in reality, cats use their tongues to clean, because they have paws, and wouldn't be able to control a tap. So I ended up being put in time out while she bathed her kitten by herself the rest of the day. Big loss for little me that day loll
unfamilar deserves the reward, and i mean this seriously. I read volume 1/2 when they came out and i finished them in one sitting. I was so hooked and the story made me insane. I loved it, loved the art, the story. EVERYTHING! i’m not much of a comic person, but unfamiliar was a book that i LOOOVED.

HARD agree on this one - Unfamiliar is genuinely one of my favourite stories I've ever read, and honestly such a big inspiration to me as an artist. I'm so so hyped that it's been nominated - can't think of a comic that deserves it more.

I don't know if you take video suggestions, but I think it would be really cool to see a series where you personify/monster-ify elements on the periodic table. I had to do a similar project for my Chemistry class and I think I made a pretty cool design for Radon based on its characteristics! I would love to see your take on that idea and I think it would give you a lot of content if you're looking for ideas.

I think Pinkie's hairstyle suits her! I looove how her one bright blue eye pops out amongst those crazy curls of hot pink - it kind of hints that she just might be capable of WAY more than what her positive and wholesome nature leads you to believe. She looks just a smidge bit unhinged and insane, and I love it so much!
I would absolutely LOVE more of these!! Celestia, Luna, and Spike would be very fun to see redrawn in your style :)
They did Spike dirty, they turned him into a dog. Lavendertowne is the only one who can save him now

I absolutely love the re-designs, but I have teeny tiny complaint on AJ's, which is you made her human design's boots flats. the heels on cowboy boots are pretty important for horse riding, even mens boots have them!

The only thing I would change is making applejack a bit more broad shouldered, she works on a farm, likely doing heavy lifting, it would make sense for her to have beefier arms
the equestria girls look like they’re cosplaying the mane 6 with wigs and colour schemes but it was a low budget cosplay so they grabbed whatever they could find from a goodwill the night before the con
I've always preferred art of Pinkie as a bigger/curvy girl. Even in my own art of her in a human form I always drew her like that. It was actually one of the ways I got comfortable with drawing more body types
She is a girl who bakes and eats a lot of sugar. She should be a softer body. (As someone who also bakes and eats a lot of sugar 😂💕)

For Rarity: I like the look, but she's a high schooler---and since Canterlot High is likely in a temperate area, they'd probably have the air conditioning on. Rarity would 100% wear cold-shoulder puffy sleeves and flared pants/shorts and heels---but I could also totally see her designing platform sneakers that go with every single outfit.
this is the outfit she puts on to take photos in but when she shows up at the function she’s gained tights and ten extra layers (she seems like someone who gets cold easy)

She’s a high schooler in Equestria Girls but she’s a full adult in Equestria. Like she lives on her own, has a full time career that she’s had for years. All the girls (except twilight who seems to be in college/grad school) have jobs and read as adults, making them high schoolers in Equestria Girls was weird

I love the height difference between all of them. It definitely makes Rainbow Dash and Apple Jack's rivalry wayy funnier imagining Dash is getting all snarky with her and AJ is literally towering over her.
Also, please do the princesses and Spike next! Celestia and Luna were so wronged by Equastria Girls..
Unfamiliar actually blew me away. The art was so gorgeous, the story was so interesting, and as someone who used to despise comic books: I seriously could not put it down. I hope it wins many more!!!

i think I liked the way they all had skin tones that were the same or pretty close to their skin tone as ponies, like maybe not fully blue or purple cause that would make no sense for the real world but like an undertone that’s more noticeable I think it would make them look a lot more diverse.

I think Applejack was actually the least apreciated one, at least in the brony fandom it was a regular joke that Apple was a background character, since there were so little episodes that focused on her or her character development. Rarity has always been my favorite 💜
Pinkie Pie is giving Crybaby-era Melanie Martinez, which I think is both extremely fitting for her personality and the time period of the show

The boots on the hind feet just blasted me with nostalgia of playing with MLPs as a kid. The old ones would have shoes on all four hooves, but the newer ones, which had the FiM style before that show even came out, would only be on the back.

the designs of the equestria girls SCREAMS 2010s, it's so obvious that the movies were made in the 2010s. They really put a formal casual outfit on rarity with the vhunky necklace lmaoo
Seeing them all in the lineup makes them just so much more believable as friends and characters in general. You hit all of the key components in all of their designs/characters perfectly
raritys iconic big curls is what makes her so recognisable, and ur redesign has lots of little curls which is probably why she looks off

INSANE! I LOVE THESE DESIGNS SO MUCH!!!!! (Although I will never un-see Apple Jacks unshaded hand lol) Rarity is my absolute favorite design from you! The simplistic elegance is so lovely and I’ve always felt rarity’s cannon design gave more rich aunt than posh seamstress. Keep it up and a congrats!!!

heya, i love your art, but as a bigger person i have a little bit of feedback to give. whenever you draw chunkier characters, you have a tendency to keep their arms paper-thin... and that's not really how those arms work on real chunky people (all the time, at least). i know you make things cartoonish a lot for your own sake, but having those thinner arms is one of those 'ideals' to make chunky people look more appealing or charming (by thus reducing their fatness to be in 'acceptable' areas of the body, like the large thighs you often draw). i think it'd help with the body variety that you draw to make larger arms (and also not send the wrong message)
this is especially something i'd like to point out bc despite you saying that pinkie's "ultra-skinny arms and legs feel wrong to me", you still kept her arms pretty skinny
i do generally like what you did for the redesigns otherwise, that's my only nitpick
They all ended up looking great but I have to say, your version of Applejack goes really, really hard. Like that's so stylish and more in the spirit of the og pony version than the Equestria Girls one.
One of my favorite aspects I see in AJ redesigns is adding a bow, as that usually is a sign that the horse kicks, which she does for apple harvesting

I looove the designs. The only thing I don't like is the shade od skin color of some of them. Fluttershy, Apple Jack, Twilight and Rainbow Dash checks out but Rarity is such a pale poney, the very orangey skin tone you gave her doesn't help recognizing her, I would have made her paler and pinker. Pinkie Pie I feel like she's head cannoned as black or mixed a lot because of her hair texture and I think she'd look better with darker skin. But that's just my opinion, keep up the good work !!
I think the thing about equestria girls is that they are teenagers in that world but in the pony world they are more like adults so that probably contributed to the design choice.
I love them!!! I think flutter shy is my favorite, because your art did really well on showing her more reserved side, toning down some of the colors was a great choice for her! :)
I think the reason Pinky Pie's EG design looks so wrong isn't just because it's so plain, but because she takes up so little visual space. Her energy and the "extra" vibe is lost

Thank you for sharing these redesigns with us, they're truly spectacular! If I were to critique/suggest anything, though, I feel like Rarity should have more jewelry on her, especially diamonds, and that her hair needs to be more voluminous (maybe tie the back up in a high ponytail?). And maybe it'd be too much, but a cropped, fluffy white coat would look cute on her! Pinkie Pie's arms, mainly her upper arms, seem a bit thin for her otherwise curvy physique, and her outfit is cute, but some glittery/sequined shoes (and top, mainly on her balloons), a more tulle tutu-like skirt, and Y2K-style jewelry (beaded friendship bracelets, charms, etc.) would look great on her, and I think that it'd enhance her party theming! And Applejack, I feel, could use some little scars on her legs, maybe even her hands, given how exposed they are, along with some work gloves!

i love your designs, but if i could say one critique, the girls skin are all almost the same exact value of brown. especially with rarity, applejack, rainbow dash, and pinkie pie. if you put the picture in greyscale, their skin is all almost identical
which isnt wrong from like a moral or ethical standpoint, but it makes for a bit of a boring composition when you put all 6 girls side by side. twilight isn't even much lighter, the only one with any really notable value differences is fluttershy
now obviously value isnt *everything*, but it is a commonly overlooked aspect of art, especially in group character design. if you plan to have 6 characters side by side, you have to consider the value composition of all characters *together*, as well as individually. as it stands, the girls all kinda blend together as far as values go, with only fluttershys skin, raritys dress, applejacks coat, and rainbow dashs pants being stand out contrast points, and when skin and hair make up a majority of the values its important to add variation so you can better tell the characters apart as well as add visual interests
this is just my two cents however, and feel free to take them with a grain of salt. over all, your art is very nice, incredibly unique, and your individual designs are lovely. my only real thoughts is i personally think it would be better to plan them together as a group, instead of individually. at least as far as contrast goes
I really enjoyed hearing Lavender's fan admiration for Rarity's original character from the MLP shows. I LOVED the edits to all of the pony designs (pinkie's most) & liked most of the additions to their human designs (tho for Rarity I think a lighter skin tone would have been more fitting from both the original design's perspective & from a more elegant perspective). Very cool to hear about Lavender's comic success too. Fun video!

I love how the fandom that redesigns mlp as humans have all collectively agreed that Pinky Pie is a chubby girl. I love it
I loved all except Rarity's redesign: It's not that I don't like it, I just can't picture Rarity wearing something that simple. I remember watching all those times when she'd design and create complex-looking but also beautiful dresses (not to mention that time when she was fussing over how simple Twilight's dress was). If it wasn't for the hair, I probably wouldn't know that that was supposed to be Rarity. Other than that, Love the redesigns!
I love like everything about these characters except the skin tones I have different head cannons for, twilight and pinkie in my head are darker, flutter shy is perfect, rarity and apple jack are paler, and rainbow dash is a bit paler. I love seeing how different poeple can imagine these characters!!

i definitely thought Rarity was kind of uppity when i first watched the show, but she grew on me! especially since her element of harmony is generosity, you really get to see her shine in that!
sorry if this seems really random but it was a little amusing seeing you switch applejack’s boots from the front hooves to the back hooves!! reminded me of that question of how horses would wear jeans and it made me chuckle a bit. i am so DIGGING all of these designs btw!!

I honestly agree with you abt pinkies human form, her body shape language never really felt like it clicked with her pony- or even hair shape. the stick-like, straight lines sort of felt like it took away from her bouncy and sort of-... *round*? vibe? Idk-
5:54 as someone from the midwest, farmers like her definitely wear cowboy boots, it's not limited to actual cowboys. A lot of the farmers commit to the bit and wear jeans, cowboy boots, and maybe even a cowboy hat 24/7

I LOVE THIS!!!! You're SUCH a good designer! The image of them all together is so cohesive even though they aren't interacting with each other or the same view. You couldn't get this even in the show!!! I love the different bodies that match what their lifestyles would be. Ahhh so cool!!

I always loved Rarity, even when I was little. I remember trying to convince my mom that she was a good character… I remember like showing my mom clips from all of the episodes, especially the one when Sweetybell made the gem heart. I was telling my mom that, yes she has some problems, but she’s growing 🥺 she’s good 😭

I love the designs but rarity’s kinda doesn’t make sense to me. You kinda made her outfit and stuff more minamal and a big arrogant and rarity loves over the top kind of more of the fashion designer than the model.

not to be one of those people obsessing over the ponies' skin colors, but I feel like giving them all the same skin tone basically except fluttershy leaves the final thing looking like there's not enough contrast and makes them all sort of blend together with fluttershy standing out (but maybe that's just my bad eyesight lol)
tbh it feels like she made them black to avoid twitter users jumping down her throat about it, i cant really blame her.
@@coffeebeanz I completely understand that and yeah I'm not really sure if that could have been avoided if she did it any differently but it would have been nice to see some more variation for no other reason than added contrast when they're all together
@@ApparentlyINeedAChannel yeah, I didn't really understand the change especially with Rarity because she's practically pure white. For rainbow dash and applejack it makes sense for them to be tanned because they're outside more, but leaving all but one white when the characters themselves are clearly light in their human form is an odd choice imo

This isn't Rarity at all, she's a fashionista, not a glamour doll or model type. Her actual outfit designs are often very maximalist and complex/bright/colourful, she has her own very distinct style when she's shown to wear accessories, too, she often wear berets and bright sweaters, modest but quirky I guess? She has a little bit of a Vivienne Westwood vibe to her. :0c
That rarity design was just no. Without a pony by her side you would not assume thats even mlp related

I do like how the original EG decided to give the characters the same color as the pony versions. HOWEVER, I do not like when they made the skin colors of the humans super light skinned compared to the pony counterparts. (If you compare the human skin shade to the pony they're based off, you'll see that the skin is super light and almost washed out in comparison.)
Because of this, certain humans like Big Mac and Cheerilee barely even resemble their pony counterparts. Hell they even swapped around Human!Cheerilee's coat and hair colors.

I started rewatching mlp recently and saw how Cheerilee was like a magenta color, and then I watched Equestria Girls with my mom, and saw how she was literally just light pink and went '😀'
