Been going to the Vineyard since the mid sixties. If you want to plan a trip in the summer, book in January or February. Accommodations go fast! A car? Same. January or February. The Gingerbread cottages are so interesting. Large African American presence on the Island. August is our month with a lot to do. Many entertainment events are held at the Tabernacle. Juneteenth is a great weekend to be there. Inkwell Beach, the integrated beach. So much history on the Island. Definitely my happy place.
Thats great to hear. I didnt see many of us there, but it was off season. Id love to attend some event at the Tabernacle. Ill keep your planning recommendations in mind. It felt good to be there. I can't wait to return!

My home away from home! My great uncle bought a home in the 40s. Nana ran a bed and breakfast out of it in the 70s. My dad and friends always stayed at Webbs camp site. From Gay Head to the Jaws bridge and the Flying Horses, this Island has my heart. Thank you for the boat ride!
From the uninvited Irishman : Wow you missed a lot man? What I mean is; nobody told you about those beautiful magical gingerbread cottages . Those buildings were once (temporary summer tents) back in the 1870s or so. The tents were set up on wooden platforms for the summer, and taken down for storage in the late fall. They were primarily if not exclusively occupied by wealthy black families of Massachusetts, and surrounding areas, mostly from Boston. They were (Methodists). They attended services at the tabernacle, and perhaps other nearby churches. They left the heat, and bustle of Boston area to vacation with fellow Methodists primarily. No doubt there was great peace and joy being together with other successful black friends. I don't mean that in a snobbish way just pure neighborly family joy so rare in America, in those days .There are incredible stories about these families worth reading about. These were amazingly intelligent, tough successful people at a time when racism was rampant even for the upper classes. Fortunately in places like Marthas Vineyard that sickening disgusting attitude barely exists today among the population. Certainly it's very exclusive today, very expensive. Not much we can do about that I guess? Thankfully they haven't privatized it all to keep us riffraff out. Talking about myself there. It would be nice if every American could know the glorious peace of summer in the Vineyard. Extremely busy and expensive in summer but off season you get much better rates. Thank you for walking me down memory lane! All the best to you from Massachusetts!😊
Great video. I am on the Vineyard for a few weeks every summer. The church you saw in the campgrounds is called the Tabernacle. It was constructed in 1879 and used for service, concerts and other events.
Thanks! Thats a great place to have service and enjoy events. I dont think I've see a place like that. The Vineyard feels like a wonderful place to spend time in the summer. Thanks for sharing brother!
Do not be fooled by the politeness of the community in Martha's Vineyard. They are thinking what are you doing there just walking carelessly as a black in their safe community. That is the mistake blacks ofen make. Those people do not want you their so why do you make it a mission to always try to assimilate where you're not wanted or belong. White flight is real.
I like your style. I like that you went off season, its still pretty vibrant in October. May starts the summer then the times begin! August is the highlight but to me anytime on the Vineyard is fun! Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are my favorites!

Cape Codder here, stayed in the Vineyard in the 70s at the Cranberry Acres campground in a tent. Cheap then, two weeks in a tent we laughingly called it Crumbling Acres.
I was hoping you would find the African American History trail in Oak Bluffs. Adam Clayton Powell's home is there. The "Ink Well" is area of Oak Bluffs where black writers still meet. Spike Lee, Henry Louis Gates live in that area. Stanley Nelson filmmaker grew up there. Of course, Pres Obama has a home in Edgartown.
Thanks for sharing all that. Ive learned so much of the history of Oak bluffs since I've posted this video. I hope to visit again and explore more knowing all this. Thanks for stopping by.
In 1996, my mother and I were supposed to see Martha's Vineyard and the travel agent booked us on a trip to Boston, Vermont and New Hampshire. Now I feel like I've seen it. Thank you.
I visited Marthas Vineyard last summer for the first time and I fell in love with it. Thank you for this video, it took me right back to this amazing place.
My mother found respite here in 1964. She was a freedom fighter with. SNCC. I have visited for years. It is my safe place. It has a rich African American history. Harlem Renaissance writer, Worthy West had a home in Oak Bluff. Many of us found solitude here in the 60s. I took Mom back last October. She shared that time with her granddaughters and me! She went on a date to the flying horses in 1964 . She rode the same carousel October 2023. It was a beautiful time.
Wow! I enjoyed this. Never seen anything on Martha’s Vineyard. I thought it was private & exclusive. I would have never thought homes would look like the first group of homes. I always think of the Kennedy’s when I hear Martha’s Vineyard.
I thought the same! It was way different than what I expected. Apparently it can be an affordable place to vacation for the average person if you plan ahead!
Visiting MVY in August during HBCU week. My sorority sisters and I booked our accommodations last November. It will be my first visit. I cannot wait to see this beautiful place.
The last house you showed on the video before catching the ferry back is the Nelson House. If you ever saw the documentary A Place of Our Own by Stanley Nelson or familiar with author and journalist, Jill Nelson, that is their house.
I havent seen that nor am I familiar with the Nelsons. Im going to look the documentary up. Im still very intrigued by the Vineyard and im sure ill be back to explore more and maybe take another look at the house. Thanks for sharing brother.
Me and my mom visited MV years ago before anyone even knew anything about the Obamas😂 It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen in my life! I’ve traveled to many countries and when people ask me what’s the best place I ever visit, I tell them you’re not going to believe me , it’s in the US . Martha’s Vineyard !!!
Really? That's awesome to hear. I have so much more to explore on the island. It is beautiful and I'll bet the summer time is super fun. Thanks for sharing!
The first thing i think of is the Kennedy family when i hear Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard. And, i don't know whether i'll ever travel there. So the next best thing is being taken there by video. (I'd rather see the national parks or go abroad.) You're a superb tour guide; thanks a bunch for providing me with a relaxing Sunday diversion on a Wednesday morning!
You're welcome! I think about the Kennedys too. I only touched the surface of the island. Hopefully I'll return show you more so you can visit through me! Thanks for watching and sharing!
Just stumbled across your channel. Great vlog. Been to Martha's Vineyard several times. Great place to relax, relate and release. Continued growth, evolution and success to your channel.
You're welcome. It was a fun place to visit and I'm glad i got to share. I have another great luxury island video coming out in a few weeks. I hope you subscribe to see that one
I was fortunate to visit in 2017. I had to choose between Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard. It is very beautiful there. I think I made the better choice. My friends and I were just there for the day in July and just took the bus around to different places. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Love the Vineyard. My family has been going for 65+ years now. I have the best memories traveling there as a kid and going to the Flying Horses. Now I get to give my daughter those same memories and she love it too! I have to say that seeing you walk down Circuit Ave and there not be a line of cars and ppl walking on both sides looks so strange. Summers are packed! Ha ha
That's so cool! Thanks for sharing your family's experiences there. I wondered what it was like to vacation there. I'd like to visit in the summer. I figured it was much busier then. Thanks for stopping by!
Great job Kenneth ! 👌🏽💯 I can't wait to visit Martha's Vineyard 😍 just have to find a nice comfortable clean hotel near by and then I can sightsee shop stroll and eat ice cream 🥰 🍦🍨🧁🍦🍨
Thank you for sharing. I actually live in Boston. It's been awhile since I was at the Vineyard. I appreciated your interview with the Gentleman. You showed me a new area. Nice Video.
Aw love your fresh eyes on this pretty place! I would visit my great grandmother who lived in one of the lil cottages overlooking the Tabernacle. I loved going for walks and observing the cute colors, flowers, the way folks tend their space, and listen in on the concerts like James Taylor. Sweet nostalgia. I take my family now. Last was Chappaquidick which felt very remote. Thanks for bringing us along your trip! Luvin your commentary. Many blessings
Thanks so much for doing this! I always wanted to see what Martha’s Vineyard was like. I’ve been to MA several times (have relatives in Boston) but have never been to the places I’ve always wanted to see like MV, The Cape, and Nantucket.
You're welcome! I went for the same reason. Just wanted to explore and see what was there. So glad I could share it with you! I really want to visit Nantucket. Maybe later this year!
I was lucky to have a friend with a boat and we sailed to Edgartown. I saw the Jaws stuff, but would love to go back and see the rest of the island. Beautiful place, thanks for sharing your journeys.
That had to be cool. I didnt make it to Edgartown, but Id love to check out the rest of the Island. Im thinking about either visiting again this year or checking out Nantucket. Thanks for sharing!
I'm happy you enjoyed the video. Have a great time when you go. There is so much of our history there that I didn't know to share which makes it even more wonderful. Thanks for stopping by!
M.V. Has been on my list of places to visit since reading The Wedding. Would love to stay in a cottage or BnB. The names on the houses remind me of the lavish homes on Grand Cayman.
They have houses like these on the Grand Cayman? Id love to see those. Theres a lot to do on MV. I showed just a little and off season. I hope you get there soon!
Wonderful video! I love traveling and I really enjoyed the pace of this video and how you captured Martha’s Vineyard. The houses are so cute & unique, they remind me of little gingerbread houses. I would choose the berry pink colored house @10:22min; I’d keep it as is or change it to various shades of Salmon pink, w/pops of eggshell white, & brass hardware. Oak Bluffs & MV are on my list of places to visit.
I loved your video. I've always wanted to visit Martha's Vineyard . I liked the fact that you went without doing any research. So adventurous. Very nice.
Thank you! I often like to do minimal research so I can have no expectations. If I'd known about those ginger bread houses i wouldn't have been as surprised! Thanks a lot for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Thats cool! It's a wonderful place and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I have another special island I visited recently and the video comes out next week. Maybe the Californian "Martha's Vineyard"? Hope you subscribe and stick around to check it out!
It reminds me a little of Mackinac island too. I have a video there. It's a smaller place and doesn't allow cars though. Martha's Vineyard is full of cars. I didn't know James Taylor lives and records there. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! If you are in the area you shoukd visit. There is so much more than what I showed from not short time there. I appreciate your comment and Im happy you enjoyed my video!

I definitely will go eventually. I have not started travelling again since the Pandemic but I am sure I will eventually pluck up courage and Martha's Vineyard would just suit me perfectly. Since when Martha's Vineyard is for the rich? Back in the early 1970's my parents every year would pack up all six of us kids and go to Martha's Vineyard for a week and my family was far from being rich. I loved it, it's beautiful and we stayed in a house down the block from the beach. I was around 14 or 15, I remember taking the ferry over to get on the island, the merry-go-round, the making of the colorful designing candles in front of us, they also made the first Jaws movie on the beach there, it was a lot of fun and so much to do. I do miss it, I haven't been back in so many years. Back then my family wasn't rich and we did live very comfortable. If it's only for the rich now, than i'm glad I was able to see and enjoy it back then.
Thanks for sharing. The explanation for the title is because of my ignorance of Martha's Vineyard before I showed up on a whim to explore. My impression, along with many of us who had never been, was that celebrities and well known public figures frequented the island because they are all you hear about in the media if you aren't acquainted with it. Also, the title is a bit sensationalist to attract viewers. I truly appreciate you sharing your experience so that I and my viewers understand that the island has been a vacation spot for many of all incomes and cultures for a long time. Thanks again!
I'm not rich at ALL. Not even close. But I save up for a bit and stay there for a weekend when I can. Some of the inns and motels aren't that high. But you have to book them early. I'm headed there this weekend! Can't wait!!

@@novelworldtravels we have had great times there. it is a 9 bedroom, 4 bathroom home that myself and 30+ relatives spend one week every summer vacationing in. it is a historical home that has been there since the 1800's. i even found a photo of it from back then on Google Images. it is like it's always been there.
@@CharlesMosley129 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms? Thats a big place! What a cool historic place to spend a week. I definitely want to return! I've looked up other spots on the island and it seems like there is a lot to do, lots of history and cool vibes everywhere. I really look forward to exploring there more. Thank you for stopping by and sharing. 🙏🏾😊
I love your fresh eyes on the island...she is lovely but difficult to live on without ancestral ties or money to buy there...as a person who worked there (I was a professional), I was not able to stay year-round on the island due to the excessive summer/seasonal rental amounts...so my husband and I moved on and off and back on island for two years...it nearly killed me. I ADORE Martha and her lands but only the very affluent can afford her beauty. Makes me so very sad. I see you falling in love with her charm as well. She is SO BEAUTIFUL.
Yeah, I can see why it might appear boring. I showed only a small portion of the island and I think some people go there for the slow pace. But you are right when you day it might be worth a day trip just to experience it a little first hand. I'm happy you liked the video! Thanks

Thanks for sharing that with me. Those sound like unique and interesting times. Im sure it was a wonderful place to return to over the years.
This was magical. Always been fascinated by this place.
It was a Magical place. I only touched the surface of the island and didn't know the rich Black history it had when I was there either.
Visiting MVY in August during HBCU week. My sorority sisters and I booked our accommodations last November. It will be my first visit. I cannot wait to see this beautiful place.
It's such a peaceful and beautiful place. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Have a great time!
Not at all what I pictured in my mind after reading so many novels (mainly romance) in this area. I thank you!!!!
You're welcome! It's a charming place.
…brother God bless you!! Great video
Thank you!
Rented a moped last time I was there. I prefer Nantucket. Ty for taking us along.
Thanks! I really want to visit Nantucket soon. Next time I'm in New England, Ill visit. I have to research what to do when i get there. Thanks!
I was in Edgartown getting coffee when the immigrants were dropped off Such a sad day for our country 😞
It really was a sad day and accomplished nothing.
Just stumbled across your channel. Great vlog. Been to Martha's Vineyard several times. Great place to relax, relate and release. Continued growth, evolution and success to your channel.
Thanks a lot! I'm happy you enjoyed the video. The Vineyard is a magical place
Thanks for sharing. I have never been there. I can almost smell yhe leaves.
Yes, I have the choice between Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard too. I'd love to come back but I'd like to see Nantucket some day soon too.
@@novelworldtravels definitely
My favorite summer vacation destination!
@@kimcunningham8870 Its a great place!

Im glad my video could be useful to you. Have a great time there!
I have a friend who lives there. Visit fairly frequently
@@elliewessa1903 Hi Ellie! I'm certain you have a great time there. I loved visiting and hope to visit again soon! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! There are plenty options for ice cream. Enjoy rhe vineyard.
Thanks for the tour!! We love Mackinac Island, too, and look forward to visiting MV in 10 months 😊
Have a great time on MV! There is a ton of history there and lots of fun to be had. Thanks for stopping by!
Looks like fun days! Thanks for posting!:)
It was a great time. Thanks for stopping by!
Just visited Memorial weekend and stayed in Oak Bluffs. We rented an SUV and explored the whole island. Loved it and will return next Aug.
Thats cool! I want to return and explore more too. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for bringing us along. I love the cottages. They are so cute.
Your welcome! Yes, I love those cottages. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for sharing. I actually live in Boston. It's been awhile since I was at the Vineyard. I appreciated your interview with the Gentleman. You showed me a new area. Nice Video.
You're welcome! It was a wonderful place and it was a pleasure to share with you! 😊
The 1st time was this year in September, Love it! Going back 2024 September.

Ice cream and t-shirt shops. Sounds amazing.
Right! Such a cool place!
Thank you so much for your kind words. It's such a magical place to spend time. I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
@@novelworldtravels That’s great 😃 If you do visit, make sure to do a video.
So charming. Thanks for taking me.

Great video thanks. The time of year I was considering visiting.
Your welcome! It's a great place. I hope you have a wonderful time!
There are cottages on G.C. but the large modern homes are the one that have names.
Love the architecture ❤
Me too. It was such a unique place.
You did a great job with your presentation! As well, the background music was perfect. Not too forward. Keep on my friend.
I really appreciate your critique! Thank you!
Thank you! You have to visit one day. I almost didn't and I'm so glad I did.
Great focus on all the historical ornate houses
Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed the video.
This is nice, I’ve always been curious about it. Thanks 😊

Nice! Thanks for subscribing. Hope you enjoy the channel and I look forward to sharing more adventures with you! 😊
One of my very favorite places! Headed there this weekend!

The Gingerbread Houses were for the Methodist Camp Meetings "Revivals" in 1860's.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing that. I continue to learn about this place. The history is incredibly interesting.
James Taylor lives here and does most of his recording at his home studio. Reminds me of Mackinac Island in Michigan.
It reminds me a little of Mackinac island too. I have a video there. It's a smaller place and doesn't allow cars though. Martha's Vineyard is full of cars. I didn't know James Taylor lives and records there. Thanks for sharing!
Really lovely video. I have never been on Martha’s Vineyard but would love to visit.
Thank you! If you are in the area you shoukd visit. There is so much more than what I showed from not short time there. I appreciate your comment and Im happy you enjoyed my video!
@@novelworldtravels Thank you. I watch that Ferry a lot on TH-cam. Its live. I also have read a lot of books about Martha's Vineyard. One (a fiction writer of course but she lives on the Vineyard in real life,) Elin Hildebrand. I have read every one of her books and that has given me the desire to visit there. I definitely will go eventually. I have not started travelling again since the Pandemic but I am sure I will eventually pluck up courage and Martha's Vineyard would just suit me perfectly.
Yesterday , we were being battered with another bad snow storm in Ontario,. Canada and I found your video. It was so perfect to watch. I loved when you walked through all those
small streets and the houses were so sweet. When you sat on the porch of the house being renovated it was so lovely. I hope that you have a lovely week and I shall watch other things you post. Blessings.

@@novelworldtravels Most welcome!
I'm not rich at ALL. Not even close. But I save up for a bit and stay there for a weekend when I can. Some of the inns and motels aren't that high. But you have to book them early. I'm headed there this weekend! Can't wait!!

Thank you! So grateful to visit!
Sorry you had to move away. Generational Islanders and locals like myself are still making a go of it, even with ancestral ties it is tough going.
