Uncovering Boston’s Hidden Past: Deer Island and Beyond
Hey there! In this video, I’m taking you to Deer Island, a fascinating spot near Boston with some incredible views and a lot of history. Along the way, I stopped at the peaceful Revere Beach-did you know it’s the oldest public beach in North America?-and explored the charming town of Winthrop, home to the oldest continuously inhabited house in the U.S.
📜 Here’s What We’ll Explore Together:
The heartbreaking story of the Nipmuc tribe, forced onto Deer Island during King Philip’s War.
The struggles of Irish immigrants, quarantined here during the famine, with 850 graves uncovered later.
Breathtaking views of Boston Harbor and the skyline from Deer Island.
A little walk through Winthrop’s history, including its 1637 Governor’s House and some peaceful trails.
Let me know what you think about this mix of natural beauty and heavy history-I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Novel World Travels Podcast Introduction (Mission Beach San Diego)
Cool building. I saw it on a list of brutalist buildings and had to see what it looked like inside. Thanks for showing us. I couldn't help but to think about the Broward County Library in Fort Lauderdale. It expresses a few similar architectural features as the Geisel Library, such as each floor being a concrete block with windows in a stepped pattern.
@@Josh-yr7gd I just looked at the Broward county library and it looks cool! I'm kind of disappointed because I was just in Miami 3 weeks ago and could have seen it if I'd known about it. Next time I guess! I can see how the Geisel library reminds you of it. So glad to have another person who appreciates these places. Thanks!
I like most of the art, not bad to me, pretty interesting. Great idea though. There's a guy on Twitter who draws "crap portraits" and invites people to guess who it is 😂
@@Anne.2024 It is kind of a fun idea for a gallery. I agree though, a lot of the art is pretty cool. The crap portraits guy sounds fun. Going to look him up.

@Anne.2024 Thank you!
@Anne.2024 Crap portraits is fun! I wish he was on Blue Sky because I'd definitely follow him. Thanks for sharing! 💙🙏🏾
Hey there Novel 👋 Those are definitely big shells! Dang!! 1647, it's nice to see something that old! That was really cool to see. I enjoyed your walk throughout Deer Island. I am glad it didn't smell bad 😅 Thanks for sharing the history, even if you couldn't find the memorial 🙏
@@nationalparksprincess3216 Thank you!!!
Hallowell and Gardiner are two other very nice small cities/towns directly down river only 10-15 minutes. Collectively the 3 cities sort of function as small metro area with high connectivity between each. The area is technically considered a “micro-politan” area by the US census. Food for thought on future adventures in the area.
@@robertking3246 Thanks for the info! I have a couple of videos from Hallowell. Ive never heard the term "Micro-politan". Thanks for sharing. I love that area and hope to be back soon!
Thank you for portraying our Capital in a positive light. People often come to Augusta and are unimpressed or underwhelmed because of the scale. But if you go to a place looking for the worst or expecting to be disappointed, that is what you will find. Thanks for seeking out the best.
See the rich people don't wanna be around us working class people. And most these people are also supporters of things like Black Lives Matter. Just not in their neighborhood. Remember you democrats voted for this. Enjoy because if Newsom has his way there's only going to be 2 things the rich and slaves. And your black ass is voted for it😂😂😂

I live in Mitchellville and I just heard about it the other day. It’s about 15-20 min away! How can I visit this beautiful beach? How can I get an invitation?
@@R.NicoleMindset From what I've been told, this is a private neighborhood that I wasn't supposed to stop in. The only way to spend time there is to know someone who lives there and come as their guest. I understand wanting to go! Its a peaceful and nice area

What a cool video. It just shows you how different the world is today vs a century ago. You have Jonas Salk who made the polio vaccine available to all unlike today where not only are vaccines patented and expensive, some are even kept hidden because it's more profitable to sell medicines than a cure. Thanks for this video.
@@Enig_Mata Exactly. That's why I admire him and the principles that guided him. Its something we rarely see anywhere in the world, especially here in the United States. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video, THANK YOU!

@@Georgia-oi6ie You're my kind of people! Love checking out animals when I can. This world is so cool and interesting.
Im sorry but this argument is very skewed. Firstly, those animals convert all the plants they eat to fatty acids and amino acids (protein). Secondly, their digestive tract is VERY different to that of a human. We would be incapable of digesting plants to the degree that those animals (technically speaking, humans cannot digest the plants - we dont even have a cecum and we are also carnivores)
@@SirMarteenio I wont disagree. Thanks a lot for sharing that because I clearly did not know. But I do know that it is a myth that we have to eat animals to get sufficient protein.
Theres a lot of land out there for sale. It doesn't seem to be a good place to build your own home

Be the change you want to see in the world. People are like mirrors they reflect what they are given. If you are only good to good people this is not true goodness If you only trust trustworthy people this is not true trust
