Im an electrician in the Bay Area of California. I just passed my test in July 2023. Money is tight at the moment, but I definitely would like to hire you all for advice. My mortgage alone has me cash strapped sometimes. Thank you both
FYI we're design-build commercial contractor...recent work has been lots of logistics/trucking facilities in the suburban Chicago area (along highways)
Hey Colin, thanks for the question. As far as bidding here is the short answer, we have developed a simple yet powerful bidding system, that get a bunch of bids out in as little time as possible. We base everything on our "commercial" or "residential" teams. We have tried Bluebeam and some others and find that you either have to have a full time bidder (more expense) or pull your guys into the office once or twice a month for what we call "bid day" Everyone on the team looks over the plans, we get our takeoff's and submit it and each electrician gives a time estimate based on our experience (not what program tells us it is) This either puts us below or usually 5 to 10% above. But because we can bid 3 major project in that 1 day or 8 small projects it's been a winner for us. We know what to include and more important exclude to cover our butt in case we fell short somewhere. Subbing out the bidding is not our thing since we have to go through it line by line page by page for any errors anyway. Better to do it in house. Every job you see on our channel and in Montana is bid the same way. $500 to $500k . I teach our pricing system in coaching as well. It's my #1 question.
My brother and I are a new LLC that is just starting. I also recently passed my Electrical Contractors exam. Does West Coast Marketing help out people in the South?

Jeff, what estimating software do you use? We use Intellibid, but I find it clunky and 2005-looking for such a premium price ($2K/year)
