This "cringe video" brought back many memories of my younger computer days (I'm 88). Back in the day, there were "electronic junk yards" where my friend and I would visit. We found many usable items that we salvaged and personally used in our setups (monitors, hard drives (spinners), speakers, microphones, cases, etc. ). I was an early Linux dabbler and in my later retirement years have completely switched to Linux (mainly Arch distros but love MX Linux as well). Thanks for the memories!
This is so authentic. So many creators do a tour with the shiniest color coordinated accessories and pc parts (which they then put affiliate links to in the description). This is a real working person's desk. Well used and well loved 💪
Honestly, if your setup works for you, and CLEARLY it does, then no one else's opinion matters. You own your equipment, in your budget, and you are doing an amazing job.
Love watching desk/computer setups but they are almost all minimalist and chic (and obviously expensive💰💰💰). This one was a really nice change of vibe! Mine isn’t 🗑️ trash, but it is scruffy😂
ahh, a fellow jank enthusiast. My current headphone hanger is a piece of rebar taken from a construction site sitting inside of a milk crate. It's adjustable!
Just came across your channel a few days ago and binged watched some vids I found interesting. You seem like a pretty cool person and it feels kinda refereshing to see another girl, like I am, into tech, PC's and so on. I was gonna leave a comment on 1 vid asking to see your PC setup as I'm in the process of buying parts for a new AM5 build. Low and behold I get a notification of this vid a few hours ago. Perfect timing. You remind me of Asmongold too, especially with the peace afterwards lol Love your setup and looks like you got exactly what you need for work, hobbies and gaming. Look forward to more future vids. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :)
I absolutely love it!!! A lot of TH-camrs are using very up to date equipment and updating regularly, at least from my perspective. I watch a lot of computer nerd videos so my perspective could be skewed. I'm on a tight budget since I was forced into retirement due to health issues. So, I'm using two Dell 990s with old school dell monitors. I also have a System76 Kudu laptop which I bought while I was working. I have zero plans to upgrade in the near future. So, seeing what you have managed is encouraging. Regarding keyboards, I've used Logitech keyboards without major issues for years. You might consider them. Great videos. I am a fan. Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year. 🎄🎄🎉🎉
I love your set up! Not cringe at all to me. I love how you make best use of what you have and what you discover. I especially love the headphone holder and your creative use of painter's tape. Happy Holidays! Cheers!! :)
Definitely look into getting a split keyboard like a Kinesis if you’re having wrist pain/problems. I was in a similar boat. I was getting cysts in my wrists from programming. Bought the Kinesis Advantage and all of my pain and problems, including cysts, went away. Paying for a quality ergonomic keyboard is well worth the price when you consider the lifestyle cost and financial cost of blown out wrists. Keep up the great content!
Aside from having double the ram and way more storage than my build, this is pretty close to where my pc was when I built it during spring break this year. Got tired of my laptops forever breaking and wanted to build a budget build with a small upgrade path and managed to achieve it...two months later. Originally, mine had a 2700x cpu and an rx 580 with half the vram and 1.5 tb of storage and was later upgraded to a 5700x, an intel arc a770 16 gb, doubled my ram, and added a terabyte more storage. It's really cool to see youtubers I watch regularly using stuff like what I started out with and rocking it! Hope you have a great Christmas and holiday season!
There is absolutely nothing cringe about your entire setup. Your keyboard is the biz! You're making the best use of what is available to you right now. Over time your setup shall evolve into something completely different. I love it! 🙂
I liked the video, good to see a contant creator that's not using cutting edge hardware. I've gotten a lot of my equipment from numerous refresh projects I've worked, so most of what I'm running is older. Even my newer computers are refurbshed. LIke I said, it's good to see that others are getting things done with older hardware.
So genuine and janky, love it. Taking the Free and Open-Source motto extended out to equipment, perfectly pragmatic. Might want to look into some better headphones though if you enjoy music, unless using mostly the speakers, maybe like the beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohm ones, they're pretty nice though the long non-detachable cable can get annoying at times. One small possibly not important thing I noticed was the M.2 drive slot, is there a drive in there? Cuz it almost looks like the standoff the drive is meant to sit on TOP of has been used as a screw to secure the drive, flexing it down pretty hard unless that was just tape there or something. M.2 drives are meant to sit ON that standoff and then have a tiny screw (that comes with the drive usually) used to affix it to the standoff. Might've just been the camera angle though. But that much flex will cause the flash modules to lift from the BGA solder pads over time, potentially.
I like your setup, good nice to jank ratio, reminds me of mine from like 2-3 years ago (I have a deskmat and an ikea ELLOVEN now 😎) It's so close to tipping the scale over to "good", like scraping a bit of glue off the stands and getting some varnish over some parts, varnish on other woods, electrical tape instead of painter on the headphone hanger, some new switches and maybe keycaps, some cheap chi-fi iems/headphones (not headSET) But why do any of that ? This is authentic and I like it Honestly my only real suggestion from this comment would be getting better audio than those razer cans oh and maybe turning one of your other PCs into a dedicated DAS or NAS to help save your data and make your main PC cleaner looking or something
Love your music Kansas Carry on Wayward Son one of my favorites i am 64 i would sit listen to what we now call classic rock and after school do my homework to it good memories.
I love a setup tour! You are inspiring me to do more DIY stuff instead of buying cheapo junk on Amazon that some one is probably drop shipping me and breaks in a month
Like everyone else, I'm loving the DIY aesthetic. I'm not really a Bon Jovi fan (I'm more GnR & Thin Lizzy) but i won't unsub over that. Merry Xmas Bread!
One person's trash is another's treasure. This is a real set up. Not one people have cleaned within an inch of its life and never looks that way on the daily. Also Canon.👍 Also Genesis. 👍
You say trash and cringe... I say practical and stylish. It's easy to see how much work and love you put in your setup. Being able to repurpose things and breathe new life is a really valuable skill. You rock bread! Merry Christmas!
The keyboard is indeed being loud in your videos, and that's indeed the vibe. Please never change your mic setup 😊 PS the display stand is outstanding! (Didn't mean the pun)
Absolutely nothing cringe about this setup! It's functional and customised 100% to your liking, it's brilliant🤓 More proof that one doesn't need to fork out a fortune to be great at tech.
top tip: getting a columnar curved split keyboard will help you 9000 times more than just a wrist rest. beautiful case. woulda liked to get more of a glimpse of your monitors than just their bottom corners, to get an establishing shot (or maybe there was and i missed it).
Your setup is harmony to me. I like the practicality of it all.... the willingness to reuse when it's so easy to buy new. The wood burning art looked awesome. Even your taste in music is agreeable, with me at least. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Love your videos and your personality. We're so lucky in this internet world to reach out and meet wonderful & beautiful people. Glad that I've found your channel, and you make LInux less intimidating for me. I'm moving from Win to Linux, because of my hardware being non-Win11. I feel trapped by Oct-2025, so I'm going full Linux by then. Getting me feet wet now.
I notice you like good music which was nice to see.I enjoyed your setup video and in case I forget later in the week, have a very Merry Christmas and a cracking New year,Sending you blessings and peace from the UK.
You really should get a elecom huge trackball if your wrists are taking a beating. It'll take a day (or less) to get used to, but once you do, it's... agh, such a heaven sent for your wrists! I promise!
I've tried pretty much everything (except for a space mouse) and in my experience the only thing that actually works is switching between multiple input devices. No matter what you use, you'll always end up doing repetitive movements. I just go back and forth between a mouse and a touchpad.
So, that is a pretty cool digital, entertainment setup, really, that is all I have to say. Catch you on the next video and enjoying your video talks, cool really….💪👌😺🥰⭐️💎
Enjoyed your little tour -- thanks for sharing. My headphone hanger is dope. My monitor stand is two nested aluminum stockpots. I use it to keep my monitor at eye level, as you suggest and I recommend. Each stockpot has two handles on opposite sides. The handle on the lower stockpot is where I hang my headphone because it's within arms' reach. I was wondering if I should throw out my old cassette tapes. I don't have a cassette player that still works. Can you still buy a cassette player to play old audio cassette tapes ? I am TOTALLY with you on having an AMD 64 bit microprocessor. The AMD_64 instruction set is WAY superior to the X_64. Anything else you might have to make your computer do useful work is just window dressing, IMHO. There's a reason gcc has an architecture flag for that microprocessor. You might want to try typing with your keyboard on your lap, to relieve stress on your wrists. That's what I do. I have an old desktop PC case sitting to my right side where I keep my mouse. While typing, I cross my lower legs at my feet. So my keyboard, lesting on my thighs, tilts downward at about a 30 to 40 degree angle. My wrists rest on my thighs, my elbows at my waist, and my arms feel like they're just hanging naturally by my sides. Peace.
You should show us your bird photography... maybe here or link to your website or whatever but it sounds interesting. More than the setup. Oh and also your books.
Thanks for sharing! What's about candles, why do you use them - it looks like you have enough electricity and light. Is it for aroma? Regarding the PC on the desk, is the noise level satisfied? Regarding keyboard, have you considered buying something like Kinesis keyboard, UHK etc.? Special thanks for the bracelet with pin/paperclip - it reminded me of Microsoft Office Paperclip, golden days)
mad props to your ghetto bling... i thought a headphone stand was a waste of money, so i just didn't buy one.. but you? no.. you're gonna have one, so you make one out of a nail, lol i must recommend you take one of your junk pcs and make yourself a NAS.. get that stuff mirrored or into a raidz2 array, lest you eventually lose a ton of your data.. despite being 25% jank, i like the style though, next time i set up a desk i'll definitely think about building monitor risers/mounts out of wood, the natural aesthetic like on that left monitor is great solid cassette collection btw which i'm sure others will confirm.. you have a deck or you snag an old walkman? interesting video came out recently about how we literally cannot make portable cassette players like we used to.. even though a couple companies are trying their best to make quality players, the tech/tooling is just gone..
Don't know your age but it looks a lot like the setup I had when I was younger. Tons of free/dumpster stuff and cheap things that kinda work but not really (broken but still usable). I was a single dad since I was 21 so I couldn't afford fancy things, so glad that has changed for me although I still don't have fancy things, just better things.
ah a van halen and zeppelin fan very nice with genesis is a nice touch. 20tb of storage is crazy but you do photography so that makes alot of sense you need the storage. the tomahawk boards are really nice
I don't think setup tours are cringe, and its nice that you did one! I think I have the same mouse (in white) and since I'm using it I don't have any issues with my wrists anymore, so I'm in the same boat as you haha If you want to continue using your keyboard, the keycaps can probably be replaced, afaik Corsair sells the keycaps for their keyboards directly or especially in the US there are tons of shops that have great more enthusiast keyboard supplies. But I guess its a blessing not to get pulled into that rabbit hole haha I have heard your keyboard in the recent videos quite a bit, but it didn't bother me. Oh also Merry Christmas!
You're never cringe, don't even worry about it. The way you act/talk is very comforting, because you're authentic. We live in a world where people wear masks all the time - especially on YT. I'm definitely rooting for you and your channel. I don't have a problem with the setup, except for the keyboard. I guess if you use a WM you can get away with arrow keys not working. As a keyboard connoisseur that was the only thing that triggered me. Other than that, practical solutions > aesthetics. Do you have or plan on making a discord/irc channel?
Would definitely recommend a split tented keyboard built from a kit to reduce cost and to help pevent RSI (carpel tunnel, etc.). There is a product called an Icy Dock in which you can slide in a 3.5 HDD or 2.5" HDD like a toaster. That will allow you to pull a drive off the shelf, dock it and then mount / unmount in Linux. Eventually, you'll need a NAS. Two if you want backup of NAS. Send any critical files to cloud as a tieriary backup.
Never encountered this channel before. Watched. You're pretty cool and chill, seems like. Subscribed. I'm a simple man P.S.: Are you on Twitter/X by any chance?
I can vibe with the setup. I am typing on a wired amazon basics keyboard and have had people say it sounds good/high end lol. wireless red dragon mouse that i love to much... a koorui 27 inch monitor. all cheap stuffz. as for pc a bit higher end I run a bosgame e2 mini. running ublue aurora. anyway great share I dig it :3
If gear works, it's ok to be old, little damaged or used! I also have a second PC with used or free parts from my friends who trying to throw away their old computer parts to trash. Tech recycling is awesome! I also have a second phone (Android from 2019 with 6GB ram). Developers cut updates in 2022 but i gave him second life by installing custom rom with latest Android :)
Very cool video, as always! Very nice content, love to watch it! Is there a reason, that you have all these drives in your PC instead of using the drives in a small home server or something like that? Many greetings from Germany!
Never under estimate the power of recycled electronics.... I put ads on facebook and places like nextdoor offering "Free electronics recycling" I got several pieces including whole laptops that just needed reinstalled. I scrapped full systems for parts i needed and also built raids outta the drives. power cables, keyboards, mice, various accessories for free... worked great.
Nice video bread. I’d actually like to hear more on the video game stance. I’m really curious as to your career as well. From what I could tell, it’s something with tech/computers? Looks like maybe from home, since you’re out in the woods? Genuinely curious about it all, keep up the great videos!
Birds can be a lot of fun to shoot. some of my favorite shots are from our aviary. easy to get nice crisp close up shots without needing a 20 pound foot long telephoto that cost 4k...
You're right--it was cringe. But I watched anyway. I especially appreciate that you use old/broken/crap hardware instead of throwing it away. You and I are kindred spirits. To me, a 10 year old ThinkPad is just getting broken in. My daily driver is based on a used, $10 Xeon E5-2650 v4 from 2016. Half my stuff is held together with duct tape and superglue. Support for Windows 11? Ha! My hardware is so old I'm not sure it supports Ubuntu! I'm doing more than my share to keep Chinese plastic out of landfills. Thanks for sharing your "cringe" setup video. Cheers.
I haven't been shooting much in a while, but I got a 6D specifically for (among other things) its low-light possibilities (though also, I tend to shoot long-exposures, which obviates some aspects of what one might be looking for here), and... was pleased at the time. Haven't tracked the line lately, but, just throwin' that out there, in case it's useful info. :)
I like your shelf / stand for the PC and monitor. It reminded me to do something about my own setup because my neck doesn't like it. Not related. But do you know any ThinkPad or any (mini) PC for a linux beginner. Or is it better to use it via a USB on my Mac? I researched years ago that it's best to try Mint (with Cinnamon?) and Ubuntu of course. I don't like to pay for an OS like Windows which I've grew up with before moving to Apple. Now it's time for Linux.
05:29 20ΤΒ?? daamn I'm spending my time with audio production & sound design (so i got some sound libraries for instruments), game design & game development (so i have libraries for sounds, assets etc.) and i have a 6TB external drive 😆(my currently working project's folder as is (without removing the not used assets of that project) in Unity is ~60GB)

Exactly what you said -- what a great and good-humored channel, BOP is🎯!
"I'm not a data hoarder, I swear, I just have a lot of stuff ..."
I *am* a data hoarder, and I have less stuff. :)
Nothing wrong with being a data hoarder. I have around 128 TB at home rn. I am admittedly a data hoarder.
@@cedwardsmedia About the same as well but I delete stuff. I am not a data hoarder.
You're into photography, Linux and Led Zeppelin. I knew I subscribed for a reason!
Don't be fooled by those cassette cases, they might actually contain Taylor Swift's discography.
for me the reason is just that Luke Smith is nowhere to be seen tbh lmao
I’m dazed and confused by programming, but I’d hate there to be a communication breakdown. Anyway, a whole lotta love to you at Christmas!
I agree with @ehermann01. 😊
She's into led zeppelin??? Damn
This is oldschool youtube content. Great Job.
It's your setup. As long as it works for you, that's all that matters. Merry Christmas, Bread!
Appreciate it! Merry Christmas 🎄

mad props to your ghetto bling... i thought a headphone stand was a waste of money, so i just didn't buy one.. but you? no.. you're gonna have one, so you make one out of a nail, lol
i must recommend you take one of your junk pcs and make yourself a NAS.. get that stuff mirrored or into a raidz2 array, lest you eventually lose a ton of your data..
despite being 25% jank, i like the style though, next time i set up a desk i'll definitely think about building monitor risers/mounts out of wood, the natural aesthetic like on that left monitor is great
solid cassette collection btw which i'm sure others will confirm.. you have a deck or you snag an old walkman? interesting video came out recently about how we literally cannot make portable cassette players like we used to.. even though a couple companies are trying their best to make quality players, the tech/tooling is just gone..
My main take away from this that my monitor is too low. I have now raised it as high as the stand will take it and I kinda like it.
Im the same way. " the painters tape works fine. leave me alone"
BTW, the proper name for the stuff is masking tape. Just being picky!
They are different things @@rwlewko. That's why they are different colors, along with different adhesives used.
I am interrested the window or poster on the wall. but would you hang the microphone instead
Time for a NAS build I think
no librebooted thinkpad!? /s
7:07 I see a Van Halen cassette there.... Hell yeah! I knew you like good metal bands :)
Yeah that what i want say
\m/
I don't think setup tours are cringe, and its nice that you did one! I think I have the same mouse (in white) and since I'm using it I don't have any issues with my wrists anymore, so I'm in the same boat as you haha
If you want to continue using your keyboard, the keycaps can probably be replaced, afaik Corsair sells the keycaps for their keyboards directly or especially in the US there are tons of shops that have great more enthusiast keyboard supplies. But I guess its a blessing not to get pulled into that rabbit hole haha
I have heard your keyboard in the recent videos quite a bit, but it didn't bother me.
Oh also Merry Christmas!
FOSS and free hardware (mostly) gotta love it! 😂
DIY mechanical keyboards you can replace the switches and key caps and program macros into the keyboard itself.
Never encountered this channel before. Watched. You're pretty cool and chill, seems like. Subscribed. I'm a simple man
P.S.: Are you on Twitter/X by any chance?
Hey I appreciate it :-)
I'm not, sorry!
@@BreadOnPenguins another bread W.
I can vibe with the setup. I am typing on a wired amazon basics keyboard and have had people say it sounds good/high end lol. wireless red dragon mouse that i love to much... a koorui 27 inch monitor. all cheap stuffz. as for pc a bit higher end I run a bosgame e2 mini. running ublue aurora. anyway great share I dig it :3
If you need more storage space on board try a nvme expansion card. Your pc fits you. Simple and elegant.
P.s. your room looks super cozy 😅
Nice setup, but the important factor is that it works for you..... And it's clean.
I smashed the like button when you showed the headphone hanger ❤
Very cool video, as always! Very nice content, love to watch it! Is there a reason, that you have all these drives in your PC instead of using the drives in a small home server or something like that?
Many greetings from Germany!
Never under estimate the power of recycled electronics.... I put ads on facebook and places like nextdoor offering "Free electronics recycling" I got several pieces including whole laptops that just needed reinstalled. I scrapped full systems for parts i needed and also built raids outta the drives. power cables, keyboards, mice, various accessories for free... worked great.
You have a nice set up. I found A real nice mechanical keyboard at a thrift shop for cheap. I prefer mechanical keyboards, they last forever.
Thats a deamn pretty nice setup hiding the cables rather than the other setups with no ergonmics
glorious, love the economy though as a nano user i would need those arrow keys
Nice video Genuine down to earth TH-camr not like all the fancy bling Rgb lights new equipment $$$ sponserd links videos 😊😊
Nice setup, I like buying used Dell monitors too. I have one 1920*1080 23" and two 1600*900 20" monitors. Honestly never complained abt resolution.
Cheers.
That's me! I mentioned about 16:10 in a previous video's comments section! Keep using it! So much better it is
Might try elevating my monitors for that back and neck tip, I'm on computer for work and play so def needed.
Really nice setup but I think I'd be so much better with NetBSD on it :>
your videos only show up on my feed when theyre almost under-ripened.
keep up the good work.
I appreciate the jank. Functional. Based. No fluff. 5/7.
I love all that hand made stuff!!
Thanks!
05:29 20ΤΒ?? daamn
I'm spending my time with audio production & sound design (so i got some sound libraries for instruments), game design & game development (so i have libraries for sounds, assets etc.) and i have a 6TB external drive 😆(my currently working project's folder as is (without removing the not used assets of that project) in Unity is ~60GB)
this reminds me of my first setups, I really like it.
