- Note: just saw DT's video shouting me out, hello to anyone coming from there! Thanks for checking out my channel :^)
Discussing a few examples on how to lead a conversation: who you do and don't want to be when talking with others.
DistroTube recommended your channel so here I am! I'm fairly new to Linux so I'm looking forward to checking out your content.
I’m also a DistroTube sub. Good luck with the channel
Nice to see DT noted!
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my channel! :)
Same
🤝👍
Close enough, welcome back Luke Smith
Lmao, thanks!
Lol, you got that right!
I was watching some of Luke's videos and this channel later came up recommended. 😂
Saw your channel featured by DistroTube, i hope this channel grows even more. Subbed since the first video :)
Thanks so much for that! :)
i specifically from the DT's video to watch the female luke smith talk in the woods;
keep up the great work.
DistroTube recommended the linux version of kaspersky to people, a proprietary piece of software that requires root permissions. While I can see this shout out to be a good thing perhaps, I still think DistroTube is never to be trusted, should always be called out for his actions and ultimately be shunned.
@@nou712 1. Name antivirus or anticheat software without root, I'll wait
2. He did not recommend or not recommend it, he was reviewing it.
So I think since you are lying right now, you should be called out for your actions and ultimately be shunned.
Thank you for stopping by! Will do :)
@@nou712 So he's not perfect and sometimes makes mistakes? Wow! What a shocker. He's a normal human being. Now, isn't that something?
I follow/watch DT, but it was the algorithm that brought me here. Great channel! Real nerds in the world.
Thanks so much for checking out my channel! :-)
Focusing on others makes conversations better also because it can reduce social anxiety.
Normally in a social situation I would end up in a whirlwind of negative thoughts such as:
"I'm so awkward", "I don't know what to say", "They'll think I'm weird", "Oh God, I'm sweating" and so on.
I've found that by focusing on other people and trying to make them feel comfortable (and perhaps talking about something that interests them), the anxiety diminishes. It doesn't go away, but the situation gets a lot better.
That's actually a great point, seems like it would be a very helpful tactic for anyone currently struggling with social anxiety. Thank you for commenting!
I just saw DT's video also; I just subbed to your channel since your channel is about GNU/Linux content. I've been using Linux distros for over 2 years straight. Windows 10 was the last version I used. After switching to Linux, I have no use for Windows anymore. I've gone through several distros and now currently using Garuda Linux XFCE with Zen kernel on my all AMD gaming laptop. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to learning more Linux stuff. Thank you and all other Linux content creators!
Thank you for coming over to check out my channel! Glad you've been having a great experience with Linux thus far :)
here from DT suggestion, it's nice to know it's not only a male dominated area, looking forward to seeing more posts from you.
Thanks so much for checking out my channel! I appreciate it :)
For some reason the "don't be a turbo autist" talk hits 1000 x harder from a female...thank you Bread
Lol fair enough, no problem :-)
Wise advice. Being a good listener comes naturally to some people, but for most of us its a skill we have to work at, and it is well worth the effort to hone it.
Thanks! For sure - as with most skills, practice makes perfect.
Your friends...and I mean those you consider as friends, are quite lucky to have you as a friend. To find someone as forgiving and responsive to others opinions without disdain is incredible. I appreciate the open-mindedness you exhibit. If there is one thing in my life I have learned....real friends are hard to find. Yet, I do know the situation with that one friend that is always behind the 8 ball is hard to deal with....
It's really nice to see your channel growing (i just found u searching for arch guides and stuff bc i was installing it in my pc)
Congrats!
Thanks so much! :)
Keep making this type of content, Bread! I love your Linux videos but I like your GNU life advices better.
I like the life advice vids more too, my hope is they are more valuable than just Linux content. Will do :^)
I have seen the video from DT. You have a good channel. I cannot much learn from you because I have > 20 years experience with GNU/Linux but I think it's good content for beginners. Especially for the people who study computer science but don't leave Windows behind.
I have been looking for as much linux content as i can. Its hard when youtube hides newcomers from you. As a DT Patreon supporter I thank DT for highlighting this. I look forward to watching your content!
Thanks so much for coming over from his vid to check out my channel! I appreciate it :)
Hello from Brazil! I came from DistroTube! Nice channel! Subscribed!
Hello, thanks for checking out my channel! I appreciate it :)
That was great, you brightened my day just by showing you care. Thank you!
I'm really glad to hear that :-)
As always, great content! I live surrounded by type B people, and it's challenging to have a meaningful conversation with them. It feels like they're not interested in what I'm saying, they're just waiting for me to finish so they can continue talking
Thank you! People can be like that without even realizing. Hopefully you'll eventually find people who are better at listening and having meaningful convos
I'm enjoying the different type of video on weekends
personally, I believe engaging in a discussion in good faith requires one to acknowledge the possibility to be wrong or for more than one viewpoint to exist, even if you fundamentaly disagree with it. that's why I think it's important to actually listen to people who you disagree with, just because one disagrees with nine out of ten things they say, they might make really good points on the one time you agree with them, dismissing that on principle gets you nowhere.
however there's a point at which people need to step back and acknowledge that some discussions and conversations go nowhere, that's ther skill I find lacking in a lot of people, even myself in some situations.
edit: didn't realise I started my last comment the exact same way lol 💀
Hey thank you for bringing that point up - acknowledging the possibility of being wrong is so important. Humans are not all-knowing and may be wrong even when we think there's no chance of it. A healthy amount of doubt is a good thing, and aids in listening to others' opinions.
Dropping conversations that go nowhere is good too, or realizing when you have to "agree to disagree" lol
Thanks for commenting :)
You a nice fork of Luke Smith, without his negative terms. A better Version 😂👍
Haha thanks :^)
Came across this channel a few weeks ago but thanks to DT looked at your channel again, not sure why but channels keep getting unsubscribed. Keep up with the good content.
Thanks for coming back to check out my channel again! I've had the same experience user-side of getting unsubscribed, not sure what's going on but classic youtube as always. Will do :-)
@@BreadOnPenguins Will at least remember the name if it happens again, nice and memorable
No doubt, you have great skills and communication abilities too, hence I will expect regular Linux content from you. Keep it up...
Thanks for that - I've been uploading Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and expect to continue at that pace 👍
You are a wonderful person, and that’s what truly matters. Over time, you'll learn how to navigate relationships with all kinds of people. But remember this: at the end of the day, you'll have your family for support and, if you're lucky, two or three genuine friends. Everyone else will gradually fade into the background, and you’ll hardly remember them. So, don’t waste time and energy on people who won’t have a lasting impact on your life. Be a little selfish; cherish and keep close the ones with whom you share real, meaningful connections.
The chill of winter left you feeling completely frozen by the end of the vlog. Sweater, jacket, hat-November is here. It’s easier to think clearly when you’re warm. Fix your camera and phone in a steady position; it will make filming simpler, and capturing moments might even lighten your spirit. You’re amazing, and the only way is forward.
Thank you very much for commenting, and I appreciate the suggestions :-)
Found your Channel from DT Great Job so far . Life advice from a Linux Content Creator was not what I was expecting Great Video though
Thanks for checking out my channel! Lol fair enough :)
social interactions are a great struggle that never gets easier, you just get a bit better at a time
Fair enough, as with everything, time and patience to improve
i actually wanted to comment to congrat for 4k and now i see it's 5k already, damn :)
after being mentioned in DTs video, well next time i will congrat to 10k i guess, so cya in two more days...
keep it being fun for you :)
Thanks so much! Yeah my sub count went up like crazy haha, it's awesome that DT sent over so many people
Will do!
One thing about the sins of a person who is always dominating the conversation is not to become the very person you hate listening too. Like other DT followers below I am listening. I have been using Linux for 30 + years. And I'm still listening. :)
Thank you for coming over to check out my channel - I really appreciate it! There's always more to learn with Linux :-)
@@BreadOnPenguins Two thumbs up !! :) Linux needs more users like you to teach Linux. And show newcomers the path to success. Over the years of using Linux, taking notes on long commands, incorporating them into bash shell scripts, or into .bashrc I have found this will make life easier for the newbie. Luke Smith was big into this kind setup with his window managers. But one needs to walk before they can run. After years of learning I have played around with Gentoo and LFS. These are source code installs of Linux distributions. Again one needs to walk before running these Linux systems. These days I play around with bottles which make Windows Games run almost flawlessly on Linux. On Archlinux I use the AUR, but the recommend easy way is to install of bottles via flatpak. Both installs work but I like to compile for the fun of it. Always learning... I have more than 30 + hours of Fallout 3 play on Linux trying to break the install... :) Runs better on Linux.. :)
In other words, try to be considerate towards others and, whenever possible, strive for a pleasant interaction. You can have singular interests and strongly-held opinions, but that's no reason to be obnoxious to others. It's just common sense!
Good summary, thanks! Most of the important things in life can be distilled to just common sense :)
I came from DT , so far so good , keep up
Thanks for checking out my channel! Will do :-)
A Linux person talking in the woods and giving based advices
I have déjà vu
All jokes aside, great work!
Lol fair enough. Thanks! :-)
Im so cool I'm a viewer before the distro tube vid ❤
💯 awesome! Thanks for watching :)
New sub here. DT sent me over and I'm glad he did. Good stuff on this channel. 5K subs! You don't need any help from DT! It'll be 10K faster than you can say "I use Arch, BTW".
Thanks so much for checking out my channel! Haha yeah it was pretty insane to see my subs go up by over 1k in the past 12 hours :)
I'm a simple guy...I saw a video featuring an advice or rant in the woods and I sub (I miss luke smith)
Thank you for that :-)
His videos were one of a kind.
You earned a subscriber, greetings from Argentina.
Thank you! Much appreciated :-)
I'm the linux guy that has had the convo issues forever this is great.
luke smith done making his clone bruh 😭
Lmao
Thanks for the advice ❤
I really do not understand, how is someone nerdy like you talk this good, I am so jealous tbh.
Lol nice of you to say, the more you talk and speak with/to others, the easier it gets
i've been advised that i am a chill person and all i need to do is not push my opinions on people!!!
Great advise.
Glad it was helpful!
People just wait for their turn to speak rather than really listening because it's dangerous to truly listen and understand the other person. You might discover something bad about yourself and then have to re-evaluate your convictions, and that's scary.
That's true - we don't like finding out we were wrong, even about non-serious topics. Thanks for commenting.
Nice to see you're finally back from spending time with those in Montenegro
Indeed, I am
There isn't much difference between Person A and Person B. It's just different perspective from another end. Groups aren't made on equal terms and sometimes people feel totally unheard. I have seen this so many times over decades as people are growing more isolated and lonely. Sometimes people just need an ear to vent. They are not looking for your advise. They are just looking for a pat on the back and clank of a beer bottle. Be kind, and listen to people. It takes some time to get around and they will listen to you too. If you want to be heard then learn to listen.
What usually happen instead that in a group newcomers aren't treated as equal, most conversations are about opinions rather than facts. While some get full reigns of the conversation, others opinions are treated as more annoying or just rants. It's narcissistic to think that everyone wants your advise. No, they just want to be heard in a very loney and isolated world.
Thanks
Thanks very much for commenting - I appreciate the points you've made and I agree that in the majority of circumstances, people are just looking for someone to talk with and to be heard.
If you look for bad in the world, you'll find it. The example I gave with person B was meant to show the pitfalls of chronically complaining and always focusing on the worst things in your life. It's an easy mindset to pick up and a hard habit to drop - not the same as just needing a friend; we all need a friend and someone to listen from time to time.
Anyway, no matter what, tending towards kindness is always a better philosophy. Thanks again for commenting :)
I think it's time we admit it, we're the Autism OS as we're very over-represented here. lol
(also, hello from DistroTube and great video) :)
Lol true enough :-)
Thanks for checking out my channel!
As a late-diagnosed autistic person, I will admit, I was having the thought that this video was a lovely example of "how to talk about autism without mentioning autism", so... yeah, something like that. :)
Thank you for the video.
No prob - thanks for watching!
thank you for this video
No problem - thank you for watching! :)
Arrived from DistroTube, best wishes keep goin
Thanks for checking out my channel! Will do :)
true 👍
hey, keep going you are awesome 🥰
Hey thanks so much! :) Will do
Very useful advice for the many autistic people in the tech space.
I've had to learn this the hard way...
Fair enough, we all have various things in life that we learn the hard way, so no shame in that :)
@BreadOnPenguins Out of curiosity, how old are you? I am 16 in a month, and I am seeing a lot of people my age joining the Linux TH-cam space.
It's estimated there are around 774,000 adult gentoo penguins in the wild.
One of my favorite species of penguin :)
good advices. thank you
No problem :)
When I was younger, I learned social skills from star trek voyager and stargate.
Worked well for me, until I'm in an argument and shout red alert, raise shields.
Lmao in all seriousness shows and movies can be good ways to pick up social skills
i spend a lot of time being anxious that i'm being bad at conversations. its the worst when im trying to meet new people
We always critique ourselves far more than other people are critiquing us. When you meet new people, they're more focused on if they are the one bad at the conversation, than if you are.
Hearing that helped me with being less anxious about convos, so hopefully that helps you as well :)
i dont know if it is because people forget , or if its just because they dont care, but people seems to forget a conversatin is a 2way thing.
Beautiful
Hi, From Australia, I.m a BlowIn!!, From DT, Our Time!!!!! To Make You Welcome & Relaxed & Complete
Hello, thanks for checking out my channel! :)
Penguins don't have teeth, but instead have a pointed beak and a mouth lined with spikes that angle back toward the throat.
Makes sense given their diet!
Basics of active listening, try to steer the conversation into a positive or neutral sphere 😊 PS Don't be "BTW I use Arch" (no one cares 😂) Social and emotional intelligence. Without any prejudices and gossip. A positive and benevolent attitude attracts such sort of people
Great summary and points :-) Thanks for commenting!
Hello, fellow linux user here, 3D printer, learning how to use CAD and retired. Never quit learning. Nice to meet you and how did you come up with Bread on Penguins I hope that doesn't mean you like a Penguin sandwich.
Hello there!
"Penguins" was meant as a joke term for Linux. Bread, on (as in discussing or using) Linux. :)
I got this recommented.. :) but i can see people here are comming from DT
Either way, glad to have you here :) Thanks for watching my vid
I find this channel as referred by the distrotube 😊
Thanks for coming over to check out my channel! :)
Major General Sir Nils Olav III, Baron of the Bouvet Islands is a king penguin who resides in Edinburgh Zoo, Scotland.
How very Scottish to knight a penguin
That's awesome. I had to look up pictures of the Major General Sir himself, incredibly regal looking guy.
Ikr
linux and baby mama drama, i know that feel, im sorry, i am easily lead and the people that love and care about me will direct things other way, like if we are going bowling, focus on the game and having fun!!!!
Penguins can drink saltwater because they have a special gland above their eyes that filters out excess salt
That's cool, I'm guessing a fair amount of animals who live near or in saltwater have something similar
What was that? I wasn't listening. Just joking.
Nice scenery and good 2nd take monologue. You make some good points. Technically proficient people can be bores at times. Unless it is their Technical advice you are seeking.
Great work BoP.
Thanks for commenting! They can be, it's good to be conscious of what topics others will likely not want to hear in excess. I've certainly been guilty of that before and it's something learned with time.
we got luke smith at home
Indeed we do
. ...is this the Hyprland experience video? . ..fall ended too soon,,
You can't fool me Luke, i know it's you
Oh no, the truth is exposed 😨

Hey, did you get a spike in subcriber count because of DT and then it dropped back down? I literally got 500 subs over the weekend and lost all 500 today.
Hey, yes I did. I had gotten up to about 6.3k subs yesterday evening, and lost about 500 overnight. While I'm sure a certain number of people subbed and later unsubbed (no harm, no foul), 500 unsubbing at once was very odd. I think it might be some sort of an anti-bot measure by youtube. Sorry to hear that happened to you as well!
@ I just noticed I am no longer subscribed to all these Linux tubers while I know I subbed to all of you. So YT thinks I am a bot too. 😂
Thanks for the answer.
@@LinuxRenaissanceGood to know, proves the bot theory then lol. Oh well, hopefully some portion of those people find their way back :)
No problem.
Easiest way to tell if someone is Person B: How often they use "I" in conversation. This will tell you their tendency to frame things about themselves and is a good indicator of narcissism / main character syndrome. Lots of people who identify as "Linux Consooomers" suffer from it.
That's a good point, thanks for bringing it up. It's important to talk with others in order to learn from them, not just to share about yourself.
Or person B just buys a Neo Beta from 1X and talks to them all day long.
1X Customer Service: "How can I help you?"
NEO Beta: "I want to go home."
1X Customer Service: "I'm sorry...you are home."
puffin bird is smaller than a penguin
Puffins are awesome :^)
i hate that when people almost forcefully want make eye contact with me, so the eye contact isnt that important, look that person and how him take what you say, you dont see that from eyes no matter what. if that person doing something else when you talk to them, then perhaps they dosnt listen to you but they dont need to look your eyes while listening to you, yes perhaps then when you start the conversation but thats it. so absolute no to eye contact.
Forced eye contact is never a good thing, agreed. People will naturally tend to make eye contact throughout a conversation but yes, there is a point of too much. Thanks for commenting
@BreadOnPenguins sure, great content by the way Luke!
Youre in new england?
Te quiero mucho Female Luke Smith
I wonder if eye contact is a cultural thing. It is considered offensive sometimes.
Oh really, it might be then! Thanks for mentioning. In my experience it's always been a way of showing respect and acknowledging the other person.
Eye contact? I have autism, I cant

Luke's Smith sister :D
Haha I'm embracing the meme
Speaking of CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS and even just plain DECENCY- take a look at the video by Bryan Lunduke entitled War on Linux (I think), where he reveals the shocking truth about the upper echelon types in the Linux world and their OUTRAGEOUS views!
They literally want to force you to accept and adapt their abnormal beliefs and behaviors! And they PREJUDICE anyone who disagrees with them!
Truly sad what is going on in that Linux community.
I'll have a look at the video - thanks for commenting

Lmao I'm taking this as a compliment
Sounds like person B needs someone to vent to. Looking for sympathy, not advice.
I'd agree if it was a rare thing, but unfortunately it's quite often, to the point that they are known for that behavior.
The majority of people are not like that, and as you said, just need someone to vent to - that's completely alright and appropriate.
Thanks for bringing that up :)
are you from canada?
