I recommend Al-Ghazali & Ibn al Quayyim books! And NOUMAN ALI KHAN Lectures (He’s an American Pakistani) he goes really deep in the morals and gems of Islamic spirituality.
I think you would find deep spiritual wisdom in Islam if you really dive into it more! away from the traditional parental way we are taught Islam.
The cool thing about it is that it is taught by the Creator of the human self so no better source to know how to manage the self and find peace than from its Maker!
Sufi practices as it is known today is more of an inovation to Islam and not from the teachings of the prophet himself.

Alright, I have some solid advice on this spirituality thing, as someone who is a couple steps ahead (non-religious). I’ve done the classic Vipassana 10 day silent meditation retreat (like the one Tim Ferriss has done), it is an incredible experience but I wouldn’t really recommend it. It’s too extreme in terms of physical discomfort (sit on floor, no dinner etc) and the pseudoscience BS is hard to swallow if you have a scientific background. And slight culty vibes. BUT what is can wholeheartedly recommend instead in the UK is Gaia House, a secular retreat place in Devon for insight meditation following the Buddhist tradition. Amazing teachers and setting. I have no affiliations but hope it will bring you the joy it has for me!

When I first heard about Abraham Hicks, they sounded waaaaay too woo woo, but the more I listen, the more Law of Attraction makes sense to me. Definitely helped me when I was grieving a loved one, and they're also all about having fun. I think you should check them out. Thanks for the video/podcast!

If you are interested in Sufism, (I think) there is no better person than Imam Al-Ghazali (1058 - 1111). He is known as the father of Sufism.

Hey Ali and Taimur - I think you would jive with HealthyGamerGG. I've been heavy into meditation and spirituality for the past few years and he's really what got me started. He's a doctor / psychiatrist and faculty at harvard (#oldworldcredentials) and he often times goes into the science and body behind meditation as well which I think you'd groove with.

Although I’ve been following Ali’s content for many years now, I am a new listener of this podcast and really enjoy these candid conversations between you two! Keep it up 🙌
I LOVE that you guys started talking about spirituality, especially since you both seem very pragmatic. I am curious to hear about your perspectives on this as your journey unfolds.

In addition to Sufism, I would recommend exploring Sadhguru's teachings, Macrobiotic field and Human Design. The latter is a pretty recent discovery of mine and find it fascinating.

Don't understand why Ali experiments with all these other random ideas and books. But avoids Quran and seeking islamic knowledge. Perhaps they view Islam from a cultural lense only or feel its not trendy enough according to their white friends, hence the avoidance of such subject matters.

Guys don’t make your worldly success make you forget about Islam. All you need for success is to believe in One God and do righteous deeds. The most successful most praised most named after man in the world is Muhammad. Are you Muslims or Hindus? Look past what mainstream media show you. If you define spirituality as closeness to God, do you think Allah has put this with Hindus and Buddhists and not with Muslims? Why are you so soppy about Hindu yogis. Seriously do people who commit shirk seem more inspirational to you than Muslims. Be careful as it can be a slippery slope. Look at shahrukh khan for example who openly posts tributes to Ganesh idol on his instagram. So please don’t make your dreams for success lead you astray.

Have been meditating for the past 3 years, between 10-30 minutes each day. More than happy to give a detailed answer to those who want it, but these are the best resources I have used so far.
    Apps:
Waking Up by Sam Harris. Daily meditations are good and he gives a scientific basis for his practices. Very well spoken and the conversations with meditation teachers are fantastic.
Insight timer. I use this for setting timers, obviously.
    Books:
The Mind Illuminated. By far the best book for learning the practicalities of meditation. It is a textbook on meditation, split into different stages. Extremely insightful and probably the most important book I’ve read on my meditation journey.
Awakened by Anthony D’Mello. Incredible book that shatters your perception of day-to-day life.

Totally random finding your discussion. (63 Artist ) Gurus are OK , and I use them, as 'sherpa' of sorts... but, you asked...so...first... stop eating animal products. This will open you up to higher levels of wisdom in a week or two. Sorry, this sounds trite and unmanly, even foolish, but you're both wealthy and educated, and frankly the primary question for you is this... 'are you eating the world or is the world system using or 'eating' extracting from you?' That's the irony of wealth, it is, a kind of deception...that one has all this power and control, but at some point you sense you're actually an actor in a kind of simulation or game. Now you both want to know things like who's running the game, are they good or bad...or is that question even relevant...are we trying to escape the 'duality' or not? Ancient questions that have answers but they have to be 'experienced' in a non linear way. On a separate note try a book written by King Solomon titled "Ecclesiastes" ...it's a field report for guys. Good luck.
