    This was great!! Thank you so much! Does anyone know what that lacey "loopy" stitch is that they do on the wrong side of t-shirt ribbing hem? I assume it's done with a twin needle since on the front there are two rows of single stitching and on the back is that stitch I described (sort of like cursive lower-case "L"s, if you will...🤔)

    Great video! I have some problems with my right needle, it leaves out the stitches occasionally. Do you have any idea how to fix it?

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's an interesting issue, I haven't seen yet. So the right needle is skipping stitches? It could be a bobbin problem, as in the bobbin isn't catching the right needle's thread so that stitch just pulls out. Maybe try adjusting the bobbin tension and see if that helps.

    • @zsofim6088
      @zsofim6088 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your advice! I've got a new machine and I still don't know where to adjust the bobbin tension, anyway, I'll give it a try. By the way, I have tried the same needles on non-elastic fabric and it works. So even if "jersey" is written on the box it is not compatible with jersey. Weird.

    • @SuperCassieC
      @SuperCassieC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does your sewing machine have a stretch fabric option? Some don't. That could be your problem.... It should be on the thread length selector, mine goes 0-1-2-3-4-s.

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, I'd say you could but if you're doing it on a single layer of fabric, it might be difficult if the fabric doesn't have much stabilization and it might not lie flat and smooth. I'd try it on a scrap first.

  • @chawaldar

    Could you please mention the upper thread tension used for the stitching.

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My normal upper thread tension is around a 4. With this type of fabric, you would probably want to lower it a little so I'd try a 3. But you should practice on scraps first as I'm sure all machines are different.

    • @gailrussell9104

I also have a serger, so I guess I thought I'd never need to use my twin needle. But I guarantee I'll be using it to hem my t-shirt this afternoon! I did watch another video right before watching yours...on how to use a twin needle. [Yours is sooooo much better :-)] And she recommended using a 1/2" stretchy iron on stabilizer on the inside of the hem before turning it to stitch the hem. It keeps the fabric from puckering or stretching while sewing. Just thought I'd throw that info in, since I see a couple of questions below referencing that problem. Oh my gosh...I'm subscribing right now to your YT channel. Your videos are excellent. Great camera angles and wonderful dialogue! An old dog can learn new tricks! :-)

      hmmm...maybe they do it with an actual coverstitch machine and not a sewing machine. So it's doing the seam and double stitch at the same time. How they're able to do it for such a narrow tube of fabric does boggle the mind :)

    • @adamonline45
      @adamonline45 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect they are using a coverstitch machine. My guess is some special one where the stitching direction is 90 degrees off from usual, allowing the sleeve to be fed onto the bed as it's stitched. I wonder! Thanks for the response :)

      maybe get a tear away lightweight stabilizer to put on the backside of the fabric. This sometimes happens with stretchy fabric because it just doesn't have enough stabilization. After you do your stitch, just tear the stabilizer off.

    • @peggy2282

      It sounds more like you need to lengthen your stitch length. Try a 4.0. You can go wider with the twin needle for the cover stitch. Just make sure the needle isn't wider than 6 or 7 mm. Make sure your needle is in the center position. On my Brother I can go 7.0. Just don't use the wider twin needles for your decorative stitches. Check out this ladies video on using a twin needle on a brother. It help me understand. Brother CS 6000i 39 Threading a Double Needle

      it usually happens because the fabric isn't stable enough, like with lightweight or stretchy fabrics. Unfortunately, the only way I know how to fix this is with a sticky stabilizer to hold it flat. If that still didn't work for you then I don't know. :(

      Professor Pincushion hey, since someone else also asked... I'm having the same issue, I suspected bobbin tension, but then found that my machine didn't support adjusting tension on the bobbin 😑 is there anything I can do to get a nicer looking twin needle stitch or should I give up?

    I want to stich some numbers on my football jersey, what would be best for that?

      unfortunately, a sewing machine isn't going to give you really thick lines so it's not going to stand out that much. You might want to find a local company that does custom embroidery which will probably give you more of a look that you want. If you're looking for on the cheap, diy, you could also do fabric paint or create your own iron on applique with fabric and then use the sewing machine to finish the fabric edges.

    There's no reference to any kind of stabilizer and how do you prevent tunnelling?

    • @buzoff4642
      @buzoff4642 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it will tunnel, particularly on knits. Cut a strip of iron-on water soluble to line the hem to the bottom along the fabric cut line, also makes flipping the hemline precise. Or, starch it well before sewing.
      Best of luck Marie.

    Why do I have skipped stitches on my outside needle. Inside needle sees perfectly. Outside skips several stitches. I have a Bernina Simply Red.

    A great video i was just wondering it doesn't say i can use a twin needle on my machine do you think i could still use it .It would save me so much more work if I could

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as your machine does a zig zag stitch you should try it. If you don't have a second spool pin, try putting the second spool of thread in a mug next to the sewing machine. good luck! :)

      At your local Pakistani fabric store.
      Remember not to use zig-zag, or you will have to go to the store again for another double-needle.
