    In all my 65 years of sewing, I recently found that when pressing a curved hem or turn under for a pocket, if you press it from the top of the piece instead of on the underside, it is much easier to press. Especially on small edges that have been serged. It never occurred to me to do that before because how you are doing it is how I was taught. Recently I was making a dress for my granddaughter and was having trouble with the fabric getting little points and not looking so nice when pressing that little edge. Mind you, I have made wedding gowns and suits for men, so this seemed silly to me that this was an issue. Anyway, I pressed the piece flat and flipped it over because I am not one to let something whip me. I started turning the edge under and started pressing from the top and the piece came out beautifully and correctly pressed. Just a thought. I always pay it forward where I can when I learn something. Thanks for the video. Very informative.

    That’s great! Very helpful explanation. I’m not even at beginner level serging yet, so understanding how it works first is a great help. 👏👏👏🤗

    Never seen anyone do a blind hem with two needles. Stitching in-between the two needles seems easier than trying to nick the edge with one needle like I was taught. Thanks for posting.

    I really appreciate that even though you have a really nice serger, all of these techniques are completely applicable to an entry level serger. Everything was very clear and easy to follow. Great video

    Thanks so much forbthis video. I recently bought a Janome overlocker and just getting to grips with all it can do. I need to turn up a pair of leggings that have a fleece lining or backing. This video is just what I needed to know to do the job.
    I'm very glad I have an overlocker. It was a bit pricey but well worth the money.

    Hi Abbi, I love your channel it is concise and to the point, I love that your vids are not too long but just wonder if you could extend the view of the finished hems for a second or two longer so I can get a good look at the finished result. I had to keep stopping and starting and in the end resorted to slowing down the speed of the video so I could take in the views. I hope you not offended as intended with love💕

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hey Sheila, absolutely love your feedback. You’re right, but, I do get so concise sometimes that I may miss a relevant part. As you rightly say, I have to start slowing down a little . I really do appreciate the comment. It’s difficult to fix things if I don’t know it’s a problem, so thank you. I know the sentiment behind this is from a good place with good intent and I will take it on board, many thanks for commenting and giving me a chance to fix things x

    This is the only demonstration I saw on a blindhem that was on a pant leg (in a circle) rather than a flat fabric sample. I wanted to edge and hem the pants without taking out the inseam. But I see now that I will have to trim the excess to shorten the pant first then work on the hem. That's ok. I might still just overedge and then use my regular machine since I don't really want so many stitches, but I will use this technique eventually.

I am new to the overlocker have got a basic singer one (Lidl special lol) it’s really good machine though for my needs. I’m also interested in uses of dif presser feet. Hi, what would be the best method and technique for hemming flounce? I have used the rolled hem method for non-bias fabrics and it turned out perfectly. When I hem flounce cut on the bias, there is a tendency to skip stitches or for the threads to not catch at all and I have to re-thread. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

    umm the whole point off the differential is so you don’t have to pull. or try to control the fabric stretch. it literally compensates and does the work for you especially with knit or stretch fabrics - weird technique for lettuce edge

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have another technique I would
      Love to hear it x 💕 what you have to remember: the differential feed has a limitation of stretch. It’s only half to twice the rate. So to create a longer rate (or indeed shorter) you will have to stretch the fabric. But I am up for new ideas
