    I was in Germany in March and rented a VW station wagon which had wireless CarPlay. It worked really well, but on screen prompts and selection was slower than what you seem to be getting on your screen. I have an XC60 and am really looking forward to getting this item which is relatively cheap.

      That's interesting to hear, thank you for sharing. The updated software is even a little quicker than this version, so hopefully you'll be pleased.

    Thanks for sharing this. I just heard about the product on @LinusTechTips The WAN Show when the conversation about Apple removing ports from the iPhone came up after the rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if that's suggesting Apple would make it difficult to produce devices like this, but I can't imagine they would want to limit the proliferation of CarPlay.

  • @tprice323
    @tprice323 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My question...why doesn't Volvo or any other manufacturer include this by default? What good is wireless charging when you have to plug in USB to utilize a feature of the entertainment center.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late reply. I agree. I think it takes so much from design through to release of a vehicle that if a feature like this is released in the interim it doesn't make it to the cars for some time. That, or it's just another expense they don't want to swallow.

    • @tprice323

      @@raeldor In any case we purchased one off Amazon for something like $80? It works beautifully and I enjoy not having to fumble around with plugging in my phone since I keep it in my pocket while driving. My wife occasionally sets her phone in the wireless charging bin while connected and she does experience some glitches due to heat. I'm not sure why her phone does that but I've personally never had an issue.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tprice323 Nice, glad it worked out for you. The great thing about buying on Amazon is that you can easily return if it doesn't work out. Wireless charging does generate heat, and if you're using GPS at the same time it can get pretty hot. I think some cases contain the heat even more which compounds matters. Might be worth experimenting with some cases that can conduct the heat better. Anyways, enjoy!

      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just got the Swedish version. I haven't got home yet to try it in the Volvo, but I tried it in my rental car (Renault) and it looked like EXACTLY the same product, just running older firmware. Will confirm when I get back.

    • @MarkuzP66
      @MarkuzP66 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray Price that would be very interesting. I got my carplay2air today and the screens look different to yours. I have a menu before it connects in which I can choose between different iPhones if connected. But had trouble with the Bluetooth pairing sequence. 1st try good but later it struggles. I will see. Firmware is already updated.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarkuzP66 I just updated to the new firmare and have the same screen as you. I had problems connecting after the upgrade, but I went through the instructions again and it seems it didn't take, but it took the second time. I knew it had taken correctly the final time as the web page said no update available. After that it connected ok.

    Hi, is this "CarPlay2Air Wireless CarPlay Adapter in Volvo XC60" able to stretch full-screen mode eg. when using Google Maps? Or is the map only visible on the half-sized screen? What about other applications? Spotify or so? I am interested in the full-screen modes.

    Thanks for the video. You were asking about how long native wireless carplay takes to connect -- on my BWM it is near-instantaneous. Like sub 5-7 second that it is always ready by the time I am starting to put the car in drive.

    When using maps, does your map still go into dark mode when you switch on the car’s headlights? And do your steering wheel controls still work?

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. I'm on a business trip at the moment, but as soon as I get back I'll try it out. The steering wheel controls seem to control the music only, but I think they may have enhanced it in the update that was released a couple of days ago. I'll report back at the weekend.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, I got around to testing this. In my XC60 it works, the map goes dark at night, but it doesn't seem to be related to the lights, I think the car has a separate sensor, so it could differ depending on the car. On the rental Renault I had while on vacation instead of going dark the screen dimmed a little bit, which seems odd. So, basically I think the information is getting through but the outcome seems to differ depending on the car.

      @pedrohenriquerodrigues4597 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray Price you have to go to settings and change the theme mode to Automatic. So it follows the iPhone’s theme. It gets dark at night. And usually when turning on the headlights the screen dims a little

    Bought this for my Audi Q7 2019/ Iphone 7. Worked for 2 days and cannot
    reconnect. No customer service what-so-ever. Website says 24/7
    technical support...there is no phone number to call anyone. There is
    one phone number under "contact us" that has been disconnected. The
    online chat session is not manned. There is a tiny leaflet that comes
    with the the adapter which does has very little information on how to
    install. Very disappointed with it. Total waste of money.

    An unsatisfactory experience in every way. Slow, slow fulfillment. Item does not work. “Support" says that my vehicle is not supported, although it appears on the website as supported. Website cites 24/7 support: no such thing. Item eventually arrived from Rochester NY, but two separate return addresses were provided, one in China and one in Lithuania. This appears meant to discourage (COSTLY) return. Awaiting refund with very low expectations.

    • @MBElliott1
      @MBElliott1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray Price I
      I have factory Apple CarPlay but the device fails to connect or behave as described. Basically nothing happens except that a red light comes on. I am willing to believe that the device may work on some cars but it does not work on mine and the communications with seller are horrific.

    • @raeldor
      @raeldor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MBElliott1 If it has wired CarPlay it should work. You are seeing nothing on the screen? It’s completely blank? I would recommend deleting any existing Bluetooth connections to the car on both the car and the phone. Also, check in the WiFi section of settings on the phone to see if you can see the wireless network of the adapter. These things will at least gives clues as to whether the device is alive.
