Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard - LicenseSL - how to play factory samples

- The LicenseSL is included free on the keyboard version but costs about €100 on the non keyboard version.
This is just a small info video explaining how you can find and play the factory samples.

One thing to remember is that these "samples" are not really meant to be used by themselves. ;) They are programming components which you can use in conjunction w/ the other OSC's to provide a layer of familiar timbres to a custom patch. The real power is taking the sweetness of the piano timbre and combining w a filtered saw pad to make a lush pad sound which can be tweakable to allow more of the piano timbre through with velocity or by MW, etc. The samples, alone, aren't entirely effective.
@Keybern The Blofeld is a synthesizer and it is not designed to be a piano. The piano sound is acceptable for this type of keyboard. It is much better than any piano sound that I could get from my MicrokorgXL.

thanks for the demo. bt a good way to experiment with the wave tables is to set the amplitute envelope as a modulation source and pwm amount to a negative amount (to approximate a piano). other fun is to be had, im still learning
oh p.s. a little amp release and reverb on the piano sound would make it sound a lot less digital. Its the instant off sound that i think @Keybern was talking about. I hope they open up the sampling possibilities in the future. Its a shame they didn't include a stereo line in.
@sacredgeometry I totally agree, specially regarding the release if you don't have a sustain pedal.

yep you can use your own samples. you need to transfer samples from the computer via usb in to waldorf. the program you do it with is called spectre
@Keybern Thank you for the comments. I assume you won't be buying one then. My video isn't intended to say how good it is. I only uploaded it to show people how to find it. You are free to state your opinions.

In pratica dovresti sovrascrivere il preset!
Comunque puoi importare multisample Korg, son suoni già mappati, belli e pronti!

@sacredgeometry I own a Korg M3, an Access Virus and a Roland piano and I just found I wasn't using the Waldorf so I sold it and bought a new camera with the money.
@javiceres I doubt it very much, the Blofeld is not really a proper sampler..it can't even sample for one but most of all has no velocity switching or any fancy stuff your day to day sampler has..This is quite important on getting a good piano sound. As for the convertors on the hardware they are a joke only saved by the synth engine, there are mods to by-pass them and go from a digital out to something better.
im getting the desktop module version of this as i use my microsampler for sampling capabilities
Update that biatches firmware and you then also gain user Wavetables (Licence SL not needed) and about a zilion bug fixes, mine has wavetables from the Prophet VS and Microwave 1
Also download Specter so you can upload your own samples into it, the samples provided are pretty uninspiring given the capabilities of this synth and Waldorfs usually good track record.
I made the video as I found it hard to find the samples which I knew were in there somewhere
@wax83 Mine had a spec of dirt on the LCD screen, under the cover. It looked like a dead pixel.
I wish I got one of these instead of my R3 :(

Thank you for this helping video ! I was desperately looking for the samples in my Blofeld after buying Licence Sl and downloading these samples ! Two questions :
- How may I store my personnal sounds without overwriting a Factoy Bank and transmit them to Spectre ?
- Where are the bank files location in the computer (I use a Mac OSX 10.6.8) after this transmitting ?

@pellelifelike I'm sorry I can't help you. My keyboard had the samples when I bought it. It took me a while to find them though, hence the video. I assume you are on the latest firmware?
Do I see a pencil sticking in the headphone jack?
Any other Blofeld Keyboard owners unable to use the samples? (Mine just shows "reserved" and generates no sounds)
But isn't it already included in the keyboard version? You only have to pay for it if you have the desktop version.
HAVE ANYBODY EXPERIENCED ANY KIND OF PROBLEM WITH THE ASSEMBLY OF THIS KEYBOARD CAUSE I'VE HERD SOME GUY COMPLAINT ABOUT THAT..ANGLED LCD SLOPPY KNOBS ETC. ??

Shit !! Now I need one (and may be sell my microQ and forget about my plan of coupling it with a workstation).
@Keybern the MicroKorg XL has samples, as for the sampler I always ask myself, if you can load samples and edit them, then: Can we judge the sampler sound just for the preseted/loaded samples?

It may be free but lets be realistic about 60mb of samples.
I think Waldorf intend for more creative samples - i.e. your own sounds

He changed the sample on the INIT sound to 'piano' and did no editing to the sound, so ADSR is off and nothing was done on the filter.
What do you expect?

Hi there I don't suppose you could do me a huge favour. I am thinking about buying this keyboard to run through my virus ti2 desktop (The logic is simply "why have just another keyboard when you can have another synth")
Anyway through space restrictions i was thinking if i could put my ti2 on top of the blank space to the right of the keyboard.
Could I ask for the dimensions of that blank space please?
