    This is a video about how I leverage my street photography into money making opportunities as a photographer. If your trying to find a video with a get rich quick scheme this is not it. Hope you can take the way I see things and apply them to your situation. Thanks for watching!

    Most famous street photographers all had commercial or fashion photography careers to pay the bills. Street photography was more of an outlet. Fred Herzog was an award winning medical microscopic photographer, Saul Leiter shot a lot of fashion and commercial work, Ernst Haas shot a lot of advertising and commercial work, Slim Aarons was a set photographer on movies for 40 years, and the list goes on and on and on. We don't hear about that aspect of their lives but the reality is none of them made a living off of street photography eventhough that's what we know them for. Transferable skills as you said. In 2019 I would say that the number one way big Instagram street photographers supplement their income is through expensive workshops. I always ask people what is your end game in doing photography. Surprisingly most people don't have an answer or have a wrong understanding of what actually pays the bills.

    On 'Stock photography', (for the US)if the photo is of a news worthy event and/or you ONLY license it for editorial use there is no need for a release from people in the photos.

    So basically you don't make money from street photography... You make money from clients in lifestyle photography.

    great video. im currently in the 'awkward' phase of doing free shoots for models to build my portfolio and theirs and the occasional paid shoot. its a struggle but i'm slowly (very very slowly) making contacts and getting my name out there.

      @@EloEast it gets easier with each shoot to be honest. i was super nervous to begin with but you soon realise the models are just people too. the hardest part for me at the moment is getting my work to stand out from the hundreds of other photographers doing the same thing. I feel i need a reason for people to pick my work. good luck anyway :)

    Evan thank-you for the video. A couple of questions
    1. When in your career do you know it's time to print a photo book?
    2. For the idea of putting your photos the bar/gallery what size did you print and how did you display (mount) your work? Starting on a small budget - mounting, framing etc can be expensive. Thank-you.

    Making a "proof of concept" is something I'm currently working on. Could you make a video about how you'd approach a client this way? When and how to bring up the proof of concept/pitch to them. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

    I love street photograhy , but i dont know where to start, after trying it with my phone, i wanna buy a beginner camera, what is a good lens , i thinking about a nikon 5300 or 5600, but you get a basic 18-55 lens with it, what should i get

    • @namukolosiyumbwa3323
      @namukolosiyumbwa3323 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I hope you're open to getting advice from fellow togs. I have a Nikon D3400 and I shoot quite a range of photography from weddings to fashion to portrait and commercial. I started out with my 18-55mm for everything before I purchased a Yongnuo 50mm, then a Nikkor 55-200mm and recently a 35mm Yongnuo. For street you can basically use anything depending on what you picture. 35mm is great for wide angle shots. 50mm pretty good if you wanna get 'tighter' shots than the 35mm. But you can just start out with the 18-55mm and go out and see what you get. Watch composition videos and tips, and how to work with natural light at different times of the day. Those two things are key before you even get to the lens type.
      Hope this helps.

    • @lyaxedm1825
      @lyaxedm1825 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the nikon d 3400. Biggest mistake of my life. Get something from the d7*** series or get the old d700 so you have a large variety of lenses (nikon f series). The used market is your best friend. Also a fast prime like the 35mm 1.8 will help you a lot cause the kit lenses are thrash especially after the sun comes down.
