    I am in my mid fifties and used to play at a high level. I never made it to the NHL but four teammates did. I like getting older, everything seems to get easier as you gain wisdom but one thing I miss terribly is playing hockey at a high level. I love the game and had a ton of fun playing. If I wasn't at the rink I was on a pond or the ice my Dad laid down in the vacant lot next door. My brothers all played, all my friends played...….very fond memories indeed. I had a great time in my youth and stayed out of trouble because I wanted to be a better hockey player. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks Dad, rest in peace. You were a great Father who knew how to keep us all on a straight path and have a great time doing it.

    The skill level of hockey players always amazes me. From the way they skate, their ability to handle the puck without looking at it, and how a puck can be coming to them at 70-80mph and they catch it with their stick like its a glove. Its all extremely impressive to watch.

  • @CBRboy1717
    @CBRboy1717 7 ปีที่แล้ว +187

    NHL level footwork never ceases to amaze me. I wish I had half the skating ability of these guys. Backwards crossovers and change of direction is my weak point.

    • @erskinepatton3247
      @erskinepatton3247 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      CBRboy1717 Agreed! Captain put me on defense last night in my rec league. Attacking forwards turned me around all night as I tried to stay with them. I definitely need to work on my changing of direction skills as well.

      for a forward its the most difficult thing because you don't skate backwards much unless you have to cover for your defense man

    • @TheWitchOvAgnesi
      @TheWitchOvAgnesi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Jayson Moriarty Which is something every forward should be doing in every doing. The more you do it, the more fluid the whole team is. In another ten years things like "defensemen" and "forwards" will apply solely to where you line up for a faceoff.

    • @ryanmcnally4613
      @ryanmcnally4613 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CBRboy1717 we are like the same forwards I mean my backwards crossovers are good but not as good as these guys. Im weak skating backwards and I mean I really don’t skate backwards as much as the d

      These guys are defencemen, emphasis on puck handling and passing but also shooting for tips, etc. now Imagine the level of accuracy good forward would have. Finally, imagine the reason why most games are such low scoring. Yeah, goalies are that good (and big).
      It's nice to shoot over a collapsed net and hit your mark but imagine having bodies, 6'4 goalies who still cover the periphery when they drop to their knees, etc cetera.

    Any young kid that has aspirations about making it to the NHL, my advice is simple, you need to be an elite level skater on a world level. All NHL players are world class skaters. No exceptions.
    I took up hockey 3 years after my NFL career finished. He is absolutely right, that kind of conditioning doesn't really translate to on the ice all that well. I could run a 4.5 40yd dash, and was stronger than everybody I was on the ice with, and when I didn't have a very solid base as a skater, it meant nothing.

    Hello coach jeremy. Im postion that i have now played hockey 3years and im not young anymore. I have taken your tips and now i have dum idea for your show. U made a wariouse drils for stick handling. But if you could do a drils for getting a touch for skate edges. Example when i showel backwards i use front edges of skates. Should i do the same but reverse. when i go fowards. I mean using my back edges to showel fowards... sory about the bad writing. My native language is finish. Br tapio
