    HINT: Before wrapping the meat in the lumpia wrappers, make a small patty and cook it in a small pan and check its flavor. That way you won't have regrets.

    TIPS:
    1. After mixing everything, cook a spoonful of lumpia mixture
    in a skillet. Taste and adjust accordingly then proceed to wrapping.
    2. It’s important to keep the wrappers covered with a damp cloth to keep them pliable.
    3. Always fry the lumpia seam-side down to keep the filling intact.

    I had a friend from the Philippines that use to make Lumpia for me. I'd ask her to make me (her name was Mercidita, but we called her Mercy) 150 lumpia and I'd pay her for them lol. They were the best food I'd ever tasted. I love lumpia, and I'd like to try to make them myself.

      Karen Lovett lumpia is the BEST!! Yeah when you make them be sure to make a LOT cause they go fast hahaha. Make sure to freeze them separately so they don’t stick together. They become one large brick of you stack them in a bag and freeze them all at once.

      I was introduced to lumpia at a fairly young age because my dad was in the service. A lot of the filipino moms would make large batches of lumpia and sell them. I fell in love with lumpia on the first bite. I remember one time my father and I labored in the kitchen all day making lumpia ourselves. We both agreed it was easier to buy them rather than making it ourselves. 😂 My two other favorites are pancit and chicken adobo. Yummy! 🎉

    I was introduced to lumpia in my hometown in Alaska where we had a large Filipino community. We used to make lumpia for school fundraisers. But most of ours were veggie and the veggies were just chopped thin. Once in a while we’d add ground pork.

    • @PhilipLemoine
      @PhilipLemoine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joanna Mallory nice! What veggies did you put inside?

    • @jmmt1968
      @jmmt1968 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Philip Lemoine typical stuff.... carrot, cabbage, onion, garlic, I’ve never seen raw eggs added. So many different ways to do the same foods!

    • @PhilipLemoine
      @PhilipLemoine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joanna Mallory nice. Yeah I think the egg is more to bind everything together. Did you season the veggies at all? I mean add any sort of liquid? I’m interested in making some veggie lumpia next but mine always come out dry.

    • @jmmt1968
      @jmmt1968 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Philip Lemoine honestly there was some moisture in the carrots, but other than some garlic and pepper...no. We put all the ingredients in a bowl and mixed them... then put them into the VERY thin wrappers and fried them. Always sold a ton of them though!

      A local Filipino restaurant on my commute home made two types of lumpia. They had the veggie type similar to spring rolls and this type, but with maybe a small pinch of well crushed red pepper flakes, which they called Shanghai lumpia. They served them with a ginger/teriyaki sauce.

    • @simonpeter6053

      @@donnabarker1554 Different types of lumpia call for different ways of cooking them. Some require the filling to be cooked first. The lumpia featured here is wrapped raw and frying cooks it throughout. There is also a lumpia that is served fresh with no frying involved.

      Lumpia-expert and my mom, says that ground pork and shrimp combo is the best. Esp if the shrimp is fresh and pink, it provides a kind of sweetness. Remember to chop the shrimp real small.

I lost my recipe years ago and so happy I found your show. I think that I used to put cabbage in it. If I add cabbage to the food processor would this make the mixture too moist? So looking forward to making Lumpia soon. Thanks. Your ideas will make it so much easier to make.

    I am seriously blessed, thank you for posting your mom's lumpia. The first time I tried it was when a co-worker brought it to work. I'm not want to try new foods but now i cannot stop. Thank you so so much.

    I make mine shanghai with vietnamese cha gio and use a pastry bag to pipe the filling onto the wrapper. They don't reach the frezzer when I make them with friends around-)

    this is solid but i always like thin sliced carrots onions and cabbage... and obv garlic.. really not a bad way to make a lumpia as long as it's crispy and the flavors ya know are there... it was all about the sauce for me my moms bingo friend made it and i think it was just soy, vinegar and a lil hoison and like a drop or 10 of sesame oil to taste. it was basically play around with it till ya like what ya want. ♥

    Many thanks, never heard of Lumpier but could I suggest for safety reasons you use a 3 L deep fat fryer very very cost-effective and this doesn’t allow overheating of the oil and keeps it regulated many thanks
