Valid point! The last few putts that just didn't drop could have easily made him +2. He played pretty well for being jet lagged and the course still being in tournament condition too.

Not tougher, just a different, unknown track and not what they're used to. Going from a 13 to a 10 is like putting through the mud. It's his first day, first round and his game was way off. If they had a month there most of them would shoot PGA level scores. Guaranteed.

Tig - I know exactly how stoked you were to play St. Andrews the day after the final round of The Open, as I had a similar experience playing Pebble Beach the morning after the final round of the 1984 US Open won by Tom Watson (I was 21 at the time). The only tee markers out were the final round championship tees and the grounds crew hadn’t changed the hole locations from the final round holes with the inside lip painted white, so I got to play the exact same set-up as Watson played. I didn’t fare quite as well as you did at St. Andrews, as I shot an 82. But that was still a better score than the final round scores of 4 players. It is great that you got this experience, as I guaranty you will remember this experience the rest of your life. Best Regards,

I'm about halfway through and I gotta say, I love seeing you get all linksy with the 2 putts from 100ft (sometimes off the green). Amazing stuff so far for your first real links experience.

So listen when I say this Tig: you played better than +5 that day. Yes, the card says +5 but you’d have been at scratch the next day just knowing where you want to miss on this course. Knowing THAT is 85% of the puzzle. St. Andrews - for a shorter course - can get tricky on ya. It was an exceptional round. I was impressed. Your first time around!
