Paul, your instruction has really helped me... and I am telling my friends. Coil and loose wrists as a swing thought has really helped me lower scores - moved from 12 to 9 HCP. I have found if i fully coil with loose compressed hinged wrists it automatically required me to fire my lower body. I am 65 and hitting it consistently 250 with a PRO V, I can hit it a bit; longer with a 2 piece but i don't like the feel of the harder balls on the greens . Big Thanks !!!

Hi Paul. Thanks for this until watching your videos always now came over the top and hooked it right. Tried it on the range and hit straighter forgot what I was doing and went back ro normal lol. Used your method today on the course and crushed a driver 282 yards straight down the middle. My daughter is following your tips aswell now. Cheers Andy n Nicole
Where have you been all my golf life lol?! Your passion and the way you teach is second to none! I will be telling all my buddies about your methods. I played yesterday and didn't try to kill the ball and the results were mind boggling. Focusing on my lower body more, I was actually making better contact and not shanking, chunking or topping the ball. I will find a picture of Paul Wilson and poster size it and put it next to my Tiger Woods. lol. Thank you sir for all you do for golfers who love golf but suck at it lol.
Glad you are doing well and seeing results. I love hearing it. I have been around for 29 years doing what I do. Just recently started to post more tips. Stay focused and really try to not hit or hep the shot with the arms.
Paul, love the analogy about comparing the throwing of a baseball to the weight transfer in a golf swing. I used to pitch baseball years ago so I can relate and it's helped a lot. Keep up the good work! Thanks!
Spend this time to build your golf swing, so when the courses do open back up you will be hitting the golf ball great vs your friends who will be struggling. A great golf swing will hit great shots. The golf ball is the part that makes it take too long to change the swing. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks alot Paul! Your videos are awesome explained to me as a usual guy. Nice talking. You've changed my 210m sliced power-arms-drive to an awesome 240m relaxed drive. For now it is a bit unpredictable between hook / slice but maybe 2/10 drives gonna be in the rough. Two times a 280m drive happened really straight. Hope to hit more of them in the future.
Big drives!! If you are hooking it, you might want to double check your grip. Sounds like you have the looseness, just need to start adding some body to straighten the shots out.
Great content Paul. My problem is I am left handed throwing a ball but right handed at golf. I tried this for a while throwing balls in the back garden but I can’t throw accurately with my right hand. I either release too early and throw right or release too late and throw left. Much like my golf. Left, right, left, right. Army golf. Maybe I should have been a left handed golfer. If I remember I was cross handed when I started but only had right handed clubs available. Strangely, I am right handed at any racquet sport but left handed at any throwing sport. Maybe I need to persevere with right handed throwing to try to get the proper feeling.
Glad you liked it. Yes, people who are lefties playing right or righties playing left are uncoordinated with the body movement. Don't worry about the release. Just feel the loading and unloading. You need a left sided trigger for the throw. So you load to the right and as you go to fire you need to think about straightening the left leg or turning the left hip. You can't have a right sided trigger. So work on it that way. You hit it with your body so need to start working on it.
I’m left handed but play golf right handed. This drill makes me thing I either should have started playing left handed or should learn to throw a ball right handed, because I have no feel for firing my hips/lower body like you would throwing a ball.
Definitely a lot tougher to get the legs and hips moving. I have seen many golfers in this situation over the years. You need to move the head going back to load the weight on the back instep as you coil. Then you need a left sided trigger to hit the ball. I would use the locking of the left leg or turn the left hip left to hit the ball. At the top you need to feel the weight loaded and that you are coiled into the right. Then uncoil. You need to do this daily in practice swings.
Paul is 100% correct! It’s not the size of your arms! It’s the technique! We’re human and the natural inclination is to kill or smash it to make it go far! This is wrong!! I am 5’7” and have carried 275 here or there. The biggest problem is muscle memory.. remembering exactly what I did and repeating it. Time and time again I will come back to try and kill the ball for distance and end up slicing. Just try to relax your arms and muscles and do as Paul says! Results will speak for itself. Thanks Paul!
Exactly. If it was as easy as just whacking at it why isn't everyone good? Just need to do it a different way. Turn the arms off and power it with the legs and hips.

When I'm only using my trail arm, I can fire my hips while that arm is still going back, and the subsequent lag is tremendous! The moment I try with both arms the lag drops off dramatically. With the lead arm involved, it narrows the chest and rib cage, screwing it all up for me.
That's because in one arm you don't have strength to hit. Everyone does this so it's the tell-talk sign you are hitting. Just keep working on the swing. Get the positions and build it. The last step is to not hit or help the shot with the arms.
Hey Paul, I've hit the ball "LEFT" so many times for years, with my two knuckle grip Im hitting THE BALL MUCH STRAIGHTER NOW !! My issue, I'm NOT "RELEASING" the club "ON THE COURSE" !! Your comments PLEASE !!
First of all at all make sense what you say. I am right-handed but I golf left-handed. If I try and throw a ball left handed it is really awkward. Any suggestion on what I could do? Thank you and keep the tips coming.
It is tricky for righties playing left handed. You need to coil and load into the backswing but then you need a right sided trigger to trigger your downswing. I would be thinking of turning the right hip or locking the right leg. Try a few things to find what works.
Exactly. He won't have an issue anyway. He has minimal arm strength so he can't pull the club down. Oh yeah, NEVER get him kids clubs. Take adult clubs and cut them off. Kids clubs are too light.

You are hitting which is causing a chicken wing which is adding loft which is causing your shots to go to high. So work on the neutral grip and your release constantly until you get it: th-cam.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/w-d-xo.html
That is very possible, this is a common thing for most golfers when they chicken wing or tighten their arms up. Start to loosen up the arms and you will start to de-loft the golf club.
Hi Paul, I finally understand why my driver was short and click. I'll try it out tomorrow. However, can I use the same technique with my iron? Oh, BTW I'm a 70 yrs old man now. Thank Paul and regards
I guarantee you do not solely use your arms throwing a ball. I guarantee your body would move first. I guarantee your arm would be like butter. I guarantee your wrists would be loose. hi, in the throwing the ball example, when would you say the ball/club is released? is it when the arms are extended in a Y, 3 feet after the ball or when lag is achieved before striking the ball?
The body is going to start first. This compress the wrists creating the lag angle. This lag is compressed until the lead arm is parallel to the ground. Body keeps turning. The lag angle is still maintained until the club is vertical. In some players it would have started to release a little. Body keeps turning lag angle starts releasing. It keep releasing through and past the ball to approx 2 feet after with irons and 3 feet after with driver. It moves ahead of the ball because the body is tilting more in the downswing than it was at setup. The club reaches this widest point due to physics of mass swinging around an axis. If you did nothing to the mass it would want to stretch out to it's widest point 100% of the time. The face would also be square to your body at this point if you set up with a neutral grip and face square. If the face is square to your body after you the ball it is square to the line as you hit the ball. I have been following your coaching for a few weeks and have been working on firing my hips however I seem to get jammed up in my arms and block the shots out to the right....I know it takes time but I can’t seem to get any power and go back to my old swing....
All pros are using their legs and hips to hit the golf ball, ALL pros. This is why they are pros, they learned to use their legs and hips and this is why they hit the ball a long way. Some add in arms, the ones that look super fast. Some use their hips more aggressive, like a Dustin Johnson or Justin Thomas. Tiger back in 2001-2004 era had an amazing swing. Just have to look at their hips at contact, they will all be open, so this means that their body is moving before their arms in the downswing.
Golf is a humbling sport. I have lots of friends who are good atheletes in other sports...but when it comes to golf..very few play...but they own golf clubs...sometime in their life they attempted to play but gave it up or play very infrequently.....who hasnt been on the first tee in front of lots of people then totally flubbed the shot?...its humbling/embarrassing...it takes a strong mindset to get beyond that feeling.....it takes a person that can put their ego aside and ...get educated about the sport and be passionate..and PRACTICE!...its hard....it takes work!... and the realization that even the best golfers hit total flubs ..now & then!......people watch it on tv..or invitrd by friend to try....realize its just to hard...and they dont like to be embarrassed in front of others...they cant let their ego go....the result is lots of clubs in the garage with cobwebs on them......to bad...its their loss....golf is a great game across ones lifetime!...few sports can say that.....but better then that is that the only person who can make the experience better is in the mirror.
For sure. Being good in other sports can help to get people to understand how to use their legs but there is no guarantee they will be good golfers. That is the thing about golf. We all started the same. So when anyone hits a shot like that or scared they may hit a shot like that I tell them that we have all done it. Everyone can relate. Exactly right. Indoor practice is the fastest, easiest way to get it. I once took a guy from 95 to 75 in 2 months he never hit one practice ball. I gave him 10min lesson a week. That's all. The problem is getting people to stop hitting balls for a month or two.
@@paulwilsongolf i play lots of golf at home but once a year pick out a classic place to go play with a golf friend for 3-5 days....nice places with lots of good golfers on tee box...everyone has first tee jitters and everyone has hit a total flub!.....you had a video ..on how to overcome this....when its your turn......go thru routine....then say to yourself 1..2...3...hit!....this has really helped!...
Ahhh. You remembered that one. That one is a a good one for sure. Clears your mind. Forgot I posted that. I need to re-do that one. I'm sure few are watching it.
Watched this jewel again....and once again learned something new....the analogy to baseball throw is pure....who hasnt thrown a ball?... Every thing he says on that body analogy to golf and power and looseness of arms wrists....now has to be applied to swing...and make it as natural as throwing a ball.....only problem....is this takes....more practice then anyone can imagine.......the secret of the golf swing is learned in the dirt.....you reap what you sow!......is it easy?....no.....its hard!
I'm left-handed and have a rod and screws in the left arm from the hand to the middle of my arm, but get only about 100 to 150 yards. What can I do to get more distant.( this is with all my flubs and irons
An injury like that is a little hard for me to tell what you should do. The power comes from loose wrists and turning your body. If you can't loosen your wrists then you might have to be content with the amount of distance you can get.
Hey Paul, today I smoked a drive today. It went a lot further than usual. It felt like my trail hand was slapping the ball, like I was closing the face on it. But it ended up being a nice fade. Is this the feeling I should be getting? The right hand unhinging at impact?
I don't feel like I am hitting anything. This could be you just getting used to releasing it. As you keep doing it I would think this feeling would go away. I call it a snap of the wrists. I don't feel this but every student I get to unlock their wrists say it feels like they are snapping. So keep hinging and rehinging and loosening the wrists as you are. This is a huge key that will get you power and consistency but into the future just allow it to happen.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks Paul. Whenever I get that right wrist snapping through impact, the strike is solid and it flies a lot straighter. It feels like I'm hitting a huge pull but it actually goes straight! Maybe this is due to me having an open clubface at impact in the past.
This is something I can relate to, I had a wicked arm in my younger days, I still remember how to throw, there's just not as much on it but great video Paul. I'm eager to go to the range. Thanks so much
So see it differently. Do this drill until you have it mastered. It will turn the arms off: th-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/w-d-xo.html Once you do, then you start firing your legs and hips for more power. If you lose it go back to the drill and try again. Watch this one too as well as other on the channel: th-cam.com/video/cNhIyhi136E/w-d-xo.html and here is why you can't stop hitting with your arms: th-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/w-d-xo.html
Only sport where the ball doesnt move. This is why the ball is the problem, its sitting there and everyone wants to just whack at the golf ball. Instead of doing a move that hits the golf ball.
I get the hips thing, I played college baseball for 4 years and was a cleanup hitter. Some reason my timing seems so off with golf swing. Yank A LOT straight left or snap hooks😡 But I do lead my golf league in Homeruns
You are using your body and arms not just body. In using your arms your whole upper body is leaning left sending it over the top. Just have to look at their hips at contact, they will all be open, so this means that their body is moving before their arms in the downswing.
Paul Wilson Golf Thank you!
How long is the shaft on that driver? It looks really long
I think the overall length is 45"
This is something I can relate to, I had a wicked arm in my younger days, I still remember how to throw, there's just not as much on it but great video Paul. I'm eager to go to the range. Thanks so much
Love that!
No I am not... it's really hard. To turn ya arms off... the throwing motion. And remembering that feeling. Check ✔ will do next practice
So see it differently. Do this drill until you have it mastered. It will turn the arms off: th-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/w-d-xo.html
Once you do, then you start firing your legs and hips for more power. If you lose it go back to the drill and try again. Watch this one too as well as other on the channel:

and here is why you can't stop hitting with your arms:

your a funny guy
:)
You're funny.
Some people can't see the humor.
The ball is the problem 🤣🤣
Only sport where the ball doesnt move. This is why the ball is the problem, its sitting there and everyone wants to just whack at the golf ball. Instead of doing a move that hits the golf ball.
I get the hips thing, I played college baseball for 4 years and was a cleanup hitter. Some reason my timing seems so off with golf swing. Yank A LOT straight left or snap hooks😡
But I do lead my golf league in Homeruns
You are using your body and arms not just body. In using your arms your whole upper body is leaning left sending it over the top. Here you go:
