    When I really miss my Grandma I come listen to your performance of this piece. I used to play it quite well, but my Grandma hated it. Not because it's a bad piece, she always told me I could play it for her once she's dead. One of my biggest regrets is not playing it at her funeral. I get awful stage fright and just couldn't get myself to do it. Anyway, now that I've shared too much, I'd just like to commend your interpretations of everything you play for us. Thank you, Paul.

    I like this guy, because he doesn't pretend the virtuoso by doing weird moves with his hands like others do.. Instead he is authentic and his hands do miracles! Well done Mr. Barton!

      Well, making "weird moves" can genuinely relax your fingers, your wrists and your body in general. But I guess being prompt to judgment is a thing now ?

    • @NeroVuk
      @NeroVuk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      It's very important to be economical with your movement at fast tempos, so yes, minimal movement.
      I think the reason why we like Mr. Burton so much is that he plays well known, established no bullshit arrangements and he plays them with astonishing clarity and authenticity. Not because other youtubers are weird in any way. I think a lot of other pianists try too hard nowadays and over-complicate their arrangements in order to impress. Mr. Burton's is music is not meant to impress. It is simply music in its purest form.
      Imho.

    • @musicomaniac62
      @musicomaniac62 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I wasn't complaining about Mr.Barton in particular. I staunchy agree with what you said, overall.
      However, when you play exhausting pieces, resting when you can is a essential thing and it can take several forms. I do myself large movement of my wrist (Typically when I play the 1st Balade of Chopin). But instead of relaxing unbeautifully, I try to do it with some "art" on it to not contrast and being ridiculous.
      Hope my english isn't that bad !

      Sometimes making those weird hand moves are necessary because they have a big impact on the sound of the piece.

    The absolute genius of Chopin keeps getting at me. His repetoire is limitlessly extraordinary. I MUST print his portrait and put it on top of my piano. If only i could have ever met him... :( F.C. you are forever in my heart.

    • @kristianj.8798
      @kristianj.8798 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Actually, the piece IS hard; though not the way you'd expect, which I think you mean in technical terms. However, in interpretative terms, this piece is indeed a challenge. You need to convey such a despairing emotion through your playing, without coming across as unnecessarily melodramatic or even pretentious; convincing an audience is even more difficult when the piece is, on paper, relatively easy and audibly simple, as each note is clearly audible, as opposed to a Liszt Transcendental Étude.

    Hello, Paul! Superb work and playing, as always!
    If I may, can you explain me why, in the bass trills in the ending of the first theme (and near the music's ending as well), you perform the first one (over A-flat) as Ab-Bb, but the second one (over G-flat) as Gb-F instead of Gb-A (A due to F7 chord)? Is it a musical practice (Gb-F is better than Gb-A) or is there any note or notation which induces us to do so?
    Thanks again for those videos! They're very special!

    Hello Paul, quick question: what are in your opinion good exercises to improve chord voicing? I struggle a bit with this to be honest. When I play chord and want to make that top note louder I just start to tense up my hand in a attempt to put more "power" on the top finger.
    Thanks in advance and once again great great playing

    Hey, I'm a beginner. Do I have a chance of playing this?

      I wouldn't say that you have "a chance" of playing it. But rather, you should take your time to build the fundations of a house before already building the roof. If you're a beginner, I encourage you to practice reading and teachnique before playing this. I have been playing for 3 years, and I attempted it with 2 years on it fairly good. But, as said, take your time.
