    I have been waiting over twenty years to buy a telecaster. The few guitars in my collection are selected for their precision. I just purchased one of these, and I am positive that my ability and technique will be the limiting factor in the music I can make with this instrument. I am honored to have this opportunity to play an instrument that is literally a work of art. Watching what Carl can do with one of these takes my breath away. I can dream of learning what this instrument can do in the next few years. My thanks to everyone for posting wisdom about this beautiful music machine.

    Regarding Carl’s statement at 5:14 about not being able to use the middle pickup by itself, you can indeed use the middle pickup alone. Master volume down, middle pickup volume up with tone pot push/pull in down position.

    • @oliverjackson2594
      @oliverjackson2594 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wish he would’ve mentioned it. There MUST be a reason, right? Sure, more downward pressure on the nut for strings 1 & 2, but don’t regular old, boring string trees accomplish that? Maybe it’s a stylistic thing?

    • @texanfournow
      @texanfournow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps to create some extra tension on the B string (which will be often "bent")? Also, never heard of a "Glaser Bender"...maybe to keep the cost down. Gene Parsons is still make benders out in Mendocino.

    • @vincentreyes6154
      @vincentreyes6154 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I know is that it's identical to Brent's actual heavily-modded '68 Tele. Here's him playing it whilst demo-ing it with a Wampler Hot-Wired pedal:

      texanfournow Joe Glaser is one of the best guitar luthier / tech guys in the Nashville area. Everyone goes to him for setups and repairs. He also makes an industry standard B Bender!

    • @vincentreyes6154
      @vincentreyes6154 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dougiemanross And the thing about Joe Glaser is that for those benders, he makes an option for the B-bender to be converted to a G if the player wants to (that includes Brent's upcoming signature model). Whereas other bender makers (Charlie McVay, Forrest Lee Jr, Matney) they can only do one bender and it's fixed (from what I've heard of). Plus, save for Matney, these installations may take some time. Whereas with Glaser, according to his website, he can install a B/G bender into a hardtail guitar (preferably a Tele) for $685 and will have the guitar shipped back in about 3 days.
      Is he still taking orders now during this crisis? I'm considering getting a Tele one day, and I really would like to have a bender installed into it if I ever get a Tele.

    The reason why Jaydee Maness said it wasn't him on the Byrds' "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" is because it was Lloyd Green on pedal steel. Clarence White did not appear on that track and, in fact, is only on a couple of tracks on the whole album. He plays on about as many tracks on the previous two Byrds albums and, of course, he joined full time for their next one, Dr Byrds and Mr Hyde. It is hilarious that this guy transcribed Lloyd Green's part under the misapprehension that it was Clarence playing a b-bender.

    slight correction to the Clarence White/JD Maness story: it was Drug Store Truck Drivin Man on Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde that first featured stringbender by Clarence with JD on pedal steel. Clarence did play on Sweetheart but without a stringbender and not on You Ain't Goin Nowhere which is all Lloyd Green's steel. of course Clarence took Lloyd's parts and made them his own when The Byrds performed it live. sorry, I'm a steel-playing Clarence geek! @CarlVerheyen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the clarification. I was told a different story by JD Maness and the album's producer Gary Usher. And when you watch the video of the Birds on the Playboy After Dark show it has a very similar sound to the record with Clarence playing the solos. But you very well may be right because Gene Parsons didn't join the Byrds until the Dr. Byrd album...

      I know it's easy to get stories crossed, especially 50 years after the fact. and those guys have quite a few! Carl Verheyen Guitarist You sure as heck cover the rest of the styles. You play the country style good(wish I could play so well) but as you said it’s their life blood. I love your playing Carl and I confess that I stole your Strat trem bar setup! Lol
