I'll give y'all a happier story:
I DMed a one-shot for my husband, his brother, and brother's wife for brother's birthday party. Fun little story from a creator on DM's Guild-- Shadows over Whitarrows. I won't spoil things, so go enjoy the module. In a random encounter in the forest, one of the monsters climbed a tree so as to not be in danger while performing ranged attacks. Brother's wife, a barbarian, clears her throat and adjusts the greataxe on her shoulder, saying, "So, it's how high up in the tree?" I recognized the glint in her eye and asked, "You're going to cut down the tree?" The two guys start laughing in glee when she says, "I'm going to cut down the tree." The tree gets cut down, I give a visible roll to show which direction the tree will fall, brother's character almost gets squished but Dex saves out of the way, and the monster gets squished by the same tree it tried to use for protection. That was a fun encounter.
Sounds really good. I know one or two people in my playgroups who would do the exact same thing.
That sounds like fun! :D
That's great!😆
Well done DM for allowing this.
I love this xD
For the final story, this is why you create “Lines and Veils” As a DM you must create rules that are not to be crossed. Unless it is agreed upon by everyone. These things should include, “sex, relationships, rape, incest, child death/murder, taboo topics”. Set rules and enforce them.
My friend always has a session 0, and the end (or start depending if we are playing that day) of the session includes our nonos. He always says that rape is the main thing that he never wants to see in his games
I suspect when you say "relationships" you mean romantic ones? Because family, friends, business partners, and rivals are all examples of relationships. Playing a TTRPG without relationships is like playing Yahtzee with only one die; yeah, it is possible, but all you did was make your entire game needlessly complicated and unfun.
No child murder unless it is hilarious child murder. Stabbing Little Timmy is banned. Burning down Little Timmy's orphanage with a series of fireballs placed strategically at the exits before raising the children as an army of tiny skeletons that you go on to terrorise the rest of the town with is encouraged. Your ultimate goal is to make the GM give up on his or her original idea for the big bad, because nothing could be more cartoonishly evil than your party. Bonus point if the big bad and big good of the story join forces in a desperate attempt to stop you.
As Xykon from Order of the Stick once said, it's important to go the extra mile.
What do you mean no murder
I agree with everything but the no murder and no relationships. Even if a relationship is romantic, it can still add a lot of depth to a character. So long as they don’t take it too far. And murder can just be funny, it’s also like the core thing new players do. “Game where I can do anything! I kill everything!” ( just agin, make sure they don’t go overboard)
Dragons flying around breathing fire? Sure. Wizards turning people into newts? Why not?
Crocodile monsters spitting stuff at me? Nope! That's just too far, man!
Sigh.
I could believe everything until it got to that crocodile! 😅😂
Sounds like a dragon got drunk and mated with a crocodile on accident to produce that. *Takes notes for future use*
I heard it as "a breath weapon shouldn't work under water."
Dog getting fingered under the table... Er we'll put up with it sure 😮

Situation 1: Huh
Situation 2: Huh
Situation 3: WTF!?
In the dog story everyone was at fault. They should've spoken up immediately the first time it happened. Letting it happen is a stamp of approval for the guy doing it. The DM isn't more responsible for setting boundaries than the players are. The DM is in charge of the NARRATIVE, he is not your BABYSITTER. If something is bothering you, it's up to YOU to speak up.
If this happened in my group (note the DM does not allow PvP), we would all murder the ranger and the DM would probably allow it because DON'T MESS WITH DOGS
sometimes there are things you just don't expect and it takes a while to understand how to react to
I disagree. As a DM, I see myself as primarily responsible for the safety and comfort of my players. If something comes up that hasn’t been discussed in Session 0, especially in a situation like this, where the potentially offensive action was put in a private note to the DM (so it is reasonable to assume the players weren’t immediately clear on what was going on), it would absolutely be on the DM to pause the game and have a discussion with all the players about what is and is not okay within their game, and to put a stop to anything that wasn’t fully and clearly agreed upon.
@@bethanyj250 I agree, but blame being on everyone for not saying anything until after not one, not two, but not until after THREE sessions of dog shenanigans. DM shouldn’t have allowed it in the first place and the two of them could have pretended it was never even brought up.
Yeah like, say something if a player is being weird.
I once made a half locathah, half kenku character because funny. I sent a gif to our group chat of a bird eating a fish, and said "their first date", which was obviously about the parents.
One of the people thought I was saying my character was dating their parents.
Imagine if they hadn't told me and they spent the whole campaign thinking my character did incest.
25:29 from this point forward, you can visibly see Duke's faith in humanity slowly crumbling away into Thanos dust
“Not my dog, not my table.” 💀😭🤣
I think it is odd the dm 'vouched' for this guy and they had a 10 minute private rp session.
Yeah, that felt weird. Either this story is fake or the DM was into it. I don't see any sane DM doing any of that.
I feel like the last story is a good example of why those trigger/boundary sheets (RPG consent checklist) should be done by every group even if you think you're all on the same page.
absolutely!! the rpg consent checklist is a godsend
I didn't know that was a thing! Where can I find that?
@arandomstartreknerd7261 if you google rpg consent checklist theres a whole bunch! i prefer the one from monroe county library, but theres a lot more that people have adapted and put in different formats!
@@arandomstartreknerd7261 Google RPG consent checklist and you can find a printable version.
Yeah, agreed. I always make sure everyone knows each other's limits before any game starts, even when i'm not the DM. I sometimes remind the DM at session zero that have occurred that they gotta ensure limits and wants are all thought of so nobody deals with uncomfortable or upsetting stuff they don't want to do in a game. Like if one player refuses to have alcohol in a game, take that into consideration. Or if one diesn't want anything involving stomach sickness, don't have any items or poisons that can cause stomach problems as a side effect. The list goes on. Those are random examples off the top of my head cuz they are on my list of limits on what i will and will not accept in any D&D games i'm playing in.
The "puppy master incident" as i would title this situation should not have happened or been allowed for so long.
This is why you ALWAYS do a Session Zero! Have ground rules, make it clear from the beginning, even for people who are joining mid campaign.
I was thinking the same thing; as a dog owner and lover, I would have FLIPPED at the idea of someone introducing even a fantasy of beastiality or some kind of narrative where there’s animal torture. So glad I’ve never not had a session 0, because otherwise things like this come up and the group most likely won’t be able to recover from it. Especially not if there is someone in the group who feels as strongly against beastiality.
The rogue joined an already going campaign.
It's even a cultural nono for movies to have pets die... or if it does, then you have John Wick permission to kill everyone.@@consberg1990
I dont think a session 0 would have helped though. It doesnt seem to have popped up until like, 4 sessions in no? So what are the chances he would have started this up on a test session? Idk
When he read out the title "Too stupid to dodge attacks" I heard "too stupid to dodge a tax". Was very confused for a moment there!
Hey, first story dm here. I apreciate the input and am suprised that someone i have watched for so long read one of my posts. It is a teanage group, I am seventeen and the oldest is only older than me by a couple months. I dont hold any resentment towards the roguelock as i have known him for 11 years but yea they complain when a challenge is put in front of them. Its gotten much better in the last couple of weeks
In the first story when the roguelock says the poison would disperse, I’d disagree not only because it could be magic spit, but because it could be a liquid different enough that it could be separate from the water like oil.
The heavy, viscous bile spews forth with incredible pressure, easily piercing into the water like it wasn't there. It collides with the surface, creating a brief void that rebounds the displaced water in a focused splash that leaps several dozen feet into the air before slowly raining back down. Roll your save!
I wonder if Ranger was doing that specifically because they were enjoying the others getting bothered by it.
I was looking to see if someone had brought this up. Obviously nothing was written explicitly, but it sounds entirely possible that the ranger wanted to instigate something for a reaction and potentially reveal that nothing bad had actually happened. If it had been something nsfw, it seems reasonable that the dm would have shut that down.
@@2o7o7dragon True but DM also chose to kick them from the campaign
23:19 the fact the dm let it go that far makes me think their was some ulterior inside joke they were building up to. Like the dog being a Druid or some shit.
That DM in the last story definitely has a new question to ask when vetting new players now!
For that second story, for people who might not have the context of Only War... This is a Warhammer 40k tabletop, and it's lethal as frick. It's a miracle the Brute's PC was still alive after that encounter. The DM must have been really, really forgiving (props to her, most would've just kill the character off by simply following the rules)
Oh crap 40k? And he is still alive? Dang.
GET THE RATTLING GUN
Some day I will make my own horror story/feud since I started to not kill PCs without the players consent.
Cause that absolutely fits that story so much..
For me the radioactive thing confused me because it is a 40k tabletop. Even if he wasn't a stand-in for Ogyrns. Humanity in 40k has regressed to the point where the process of starting a machine more complex than bicycle is seen as a religious ceremony. I wouldn't think the average person would be familiar with nuclear physics enough to know radiation is bad for that radiation is a thing. The idea 40k has gone back to people accidentally poisoning themselves by working next to exposed reactors sounds like something that would happen in 40k.

what the dog doin?
I played a game where I was a dog druid. I was a dog that could transform into a human, my dm kept introducing new female dogs and wolves and hinting he thought I should engage because that's what my character would do. I usually play my characters asexual, because its a freaking game of pretend with real people, eventually i gave up the character, he's living on a farm now
Set that dm on fire
Man that sucks. That sounds like really fun concept.
Can I steal that idea?
Jesus Christ, you weren’t even a human that can transform into a dog. You are a dog that could transform into a human I don’t know if that makes it better or worse
You should have told him "sorry, when I was still young, there was this... female... long story short, I was exiled, but my balls were not."
I saw the title, I saw what the section of the video was called, I knew what had to be showing up, and yet I still watched to the end, and I heavily regret it.

@@midnights2631 I hope you didn't. Just don't
I find it funny that in the first story, they complained about not being able to do acrobatics... in a boat. Not a lot of room to dodge, or flip and I want to see someone roll in a boat.
Dog story is a reason for Session 0s. Even with a new player.
This is why you always need some form of session 0, even if someone joins a game part way through. Rules and boundaries need to be firmly established with each player. I play over discord and we have a 'no-no zone' chat, where anything off limit can be listed. If you break an existing rule you get one warning and after that you are banned. Things can be added at any time to the list if something uncomfy comes up, and that subject will no longer be brought up going forward.
I remember being on a server that used something like that. I got in trouble for saying something that was on the list- but it was only added to the list /after/ I said it. I couldn't have known that someone was against it when I said it, but I still got a strike for it.
It was something that made sense in context, I know, but someone knew it was a hard no for them -but it never got posted as a taboo topic-
Just make sure to mark your limits, everyone
@mrsplays9817 you never should have been held accountable for something you could not have known was off limits. It should have been a simple "alright, strike that from the game, after this tiny ret-con we won't be bringing this up anymore" easy as that. Respectfully to the DM, if there is a list of clearly established boundaries and players don't list theirs, you do not coddle those players. They are responsible for their own wellbeing. They have the right to add things going forward but no one else should be responsible for their failure to protect themselves.
@@katiecakesl4691 It wasn't part of a game, just general conversation, but yea, still.
tbh im more surprised the dm let it go on for multiple sessions! if i was the dm, i likely would've talked to the player privately and said "look, this is not the sort of game to do that in. either knock it off and stop making people uncomfortable, or get out and find a group that works for you"... although tbh i probably would've ALSO let it go on for too long bc i hate conflict lol.
Honestly I would probably say nothing the first time out of shock and anxiety but at some point I would probably snap at the player
I was in one where the DM brought their five year old. You would expect chaos but when one player complained they kept dying the five year old goes " Well mister it cause you suck". God bless kids lol.
I'm glad he didn't censor the word "beasteality". It took me way too long to figure out people weren't talking about homework when everyone started saying "essay" instead of "sexual assult".
i think they were saying SA but that also answers my question as i had no clue what they menat with ''a SA survivor'' Thos SA is basicly just being F'd without consent... big deal whooptidoo. People that inflict self-ending measurements cus of that are simply weak and dont know how to deal with problems.
That private session between DM and ranger must've been wild 💀

“The DM doesn’t have to let you do something”
I remember another horror story where a character somehow managed to end existence with a single stupid move, and everyone was mad about having to start a new campaign. Which was baffling to me because… don’t let him do that? Or once it happens, make that scenario be a vision another character had, who uses that foresight to stop the original dude.
"I don't judge..."
Nah, I judge. Some things are worthy of judgment. I wouldn't play with that DM again either. 🤢
SAME. BIG SAME. Screw people's fee-fee's of "Don't kinkshame me", some kinks deserve to be shamed. :p Also I hope that ranger doesn't have a RL dog.
Too right.
@@mikaneko No, but intolerance deserves to be shamed. Your comfort does not supersede anyone else's rights. The instant you start hating on people for any reason other than them NOT being good, ethical people, you can take those hate culture vibes and leave. You should think on where you learned them from, too. Religion, culture, fantasy, income, identity, ethnicity, sexuality, I don't care what the category is. We judge people by their actions and character or we don't judge them at all. And I gotta say, the character you showed right here disappointed me.
Now if they actually hurt an animal, you will not have a chance of catching up to me because I will already have my torch and pitchfork and a head start on you. Until then, we're above witch hunts and we respect and support each other.

My opinion remains the same even if it were a friend or family member who was "disappointed". I will absolutely judge someone into anything like that, or pedophilia or anything equally vile, and If someone had a dog iRL while they played out beastiality iRL, I would still be concerned. I REALLY like watching you do these types of videos with your wife. It's nice to see a married couple doing hobbies together. Continue doing these videos and I will continue watching them.
So, I have a player who is a chaotic mess. The type to knowingly set off every trap even after being assured there is nothing behind it worth the damage. So, I had him infected with lycanthropy, in the form of a werebear. Now, I wasn't aware that the lycanthropy didn't manifest as a separate identity. But. I did that. And when we read the rules that lycanthropes were just beasts. We all kind of waved that off because we liked the idea of the player having to have a mental battle with the lycanthrope and fight for control over their physical form and its been a fun little jeckyl and hide type ordeal! Much love!
Werebears are... good aligned even when they shapeshift, have immunity to physical damage from non-magical sources and advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks involving smell. I think it's just a straight upgrade to a player to make them a werebear. Can't they also shapeshift at will? Though I'd probably require some kind of spiritual journey and time for the player to master that. Usually it's only passed on by other werebears to trusted apprentices and friends who they've vetted and trained in their ways and understanding of the world as creatures of good. I'd definitely have their werebear blood fight them any time they try to do something that could be evil or morally wrong, like stealing or lying. Maybe have them make a Wisdom check to try to push through their flourishing Good instincts to do it anyway, and then let them know that despite themself, they feel bad after doing it.
That sounds really fun though, however you handle it! Just playing it out in my head a little for fun and typing it out while I think. I hope it goes great and you get a ton of awesome stories out of it!
The idiot/class clown story basically happened in one of my games. I was running an AL game with some regulars at my LGS, and the party rouge decided to ride a goat (summoned by another player’s bag of tricks) a half mile ahead of the party, solo, towards the enemy patrol they were stalking. This was on an open plain and the enemy patrol had a Wyvern scouting. The party found his left foot a couple hours of travel later.

Mad Props for you two for managing to not tear into them mercilessly, honestly. Impressive and respectable restraint.
“The code is more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules.”
I played in a game like your first topic. Our rogue has no sense of self preservation. At one point i was like ok it's my goal to keep this guy alive. Long story short he runs into a room with a bone demon gets locked in and gets Ginsu'd.
"Nice work, Bone Daddy."
About being on your phone: My old DnD group had a relatively unspoken rule in that, in a party of 6 people, you have 5 other people's turns to decide what you want to do on your turn, so if it gets to your turn and you're distracted or you take several minutes looking through spell sheets when you could've been doing that while it wasn't your turn, we skip your turn.
As a Rules Lawyer (a trait I'm trying to improve on), I've definitely had more than my share of stupid mistakes when it comes to D&D rulings. When I was younger, I tried to show off my knowledge and flaunt "mistakes" made by others, which of course was the WORST way to approach this. As I got older, I shifted more to wanting to be helpful with that knowledge, but I still very often went about it in too confrontational manner. All of this was MY BAD (to be clear).
More recently, I've been trying to go about it from a different angle. If someone at the table seems uncertain about a ruling or decision, I offer up the information and follow it with "But the DM makes final decisions. It's their campaign, so their ruling trumps R.A.W." Other than that, I tend to leave it alone unless someone seems to be going out of their way to flaunt balance rules (ignoring disadvantage, giving self advantage without cause), basically things that are impacting game enjoyment and happening a lot. Then I'll usually make a side comment or mention something to the DM about it and let the DM handle it how they see fit.
In short: DM Trumps Rules As Written. ALWAYS. And even if you are trying to be helpful, there's definitely more helpful ways you can approach this process.
I've got a DM who doesn't have as many spells memorized as I do. And I've got a player who cheats. So when we have fights, she's always using spells that require concentration and never mentions it to him, nor does she roll when she needs to do a concentration check, nor does she drop the previous spell when she has a new concentration spell.
It works to our advantage that she's got three concentration spells up, but ... I don't want to be a rules lawyer and pipe up every time she does it. He *made* her character for her and supposedly checks our sheets after we level up. And it's not that I dislike our DM, he's fine. But sheesh, it's hard to hold back, even when it's to my detriment as a player and he's got us ganked with 10 enemies and a boss. The rules lawyer in me wants to say it *so bad.*
@@Midori_SeabreezeAs a DM, Im going to forget rules or details about a combat sometimes. I LOVE when my players simply go "Hey can he cast two levelled spells in a turn?" or "Wasn't he grappled? His move is 0." In most games, DMs are gonna play mostly RAW and will forget lots of those big rules.
Imo, its only a problem if its unasked for or if you're directly arguing against the DMs ruling.
Yea I 100% agree with you DM is final ruling. My only exception to this is when rulings are inconsistent. I.e. DM rules something works one way one time, I say cool good to know, then next time arbitrarily change that rule to something else. This has happened to me on more than one occasion with the same DM and it was exceptionally frustrating the second time around. I prepared for a scenario based on the way he ruled the first time, but got rinsed on the second time around because he thought it was cooler that X should happen this way now.
Oh dude, I feel you 100%. Just this Friday, the one day I get to play instead of DMing, I got way too passionate about a rules matter and didn't realize until afterward that I'd definitely brought a little too much energy about it. I just really wanted to help a new player get the most out of what she wanted to do, and the DM wasn't clear on the rules. I felt so incredibly bad afterward and while play got back to having a great time after, I was still beating myself up about it. I apologized profusely after the session and explained myself. The DM was super cool about it, and said I had actually convinced him. I looked up some rules stuff for him so he didn't have to and found a variant rule that supports running things the way he's used to, as well as reminded him that I 100% support and respect whatever way he chooses to do things. He's a great guy and I think he completely understood me, which was a huge relief. I always include that we can do things however they want, but I failed to make it sound that way. Just one more lesson learned.
Such a fine line between being helpful and being a jerk, sometimes. :P Devil's in all those little details.
I love these, hearing two people talk about their thoughts of these stories is so much fun
I really want more of this because I love how you guys take all the aspects of social interactions and personal traits into perspective when talking about things that do in fact happen in ttrpgs. Really love this series and wish you guys will continue it, heck maybe include Jenkin or one of your DM friends in as a special guest. Also the Cleric/Rogue family in the last read was a wholesome find in a very uncomfortable topic.
I had a saying with an ex that was "Not my dog, not my baby."
But it was in relation to playing fetch with your kid and your dog.
I'm just hoping that person keeps that in fantasy.
Any time a player has argued with a DM at a table about how things arw wrong bc it is not the same on Earth I have always given them the definition to the word fantasy and said magic ain't real so physics doesn't always apply
I love that introduction, always.

I love the chats that happen between Duke and Wife after every story, very cool to hear your own sides and experiences with similar things that happened in the story they just read
Man, I love the long videos like this. Great to listen to while gaming!
The last story, i agree with you two. If it was agreed upon by everyone involved in the game, whatever. But time and place matter, as do the people there. I wouldn't bring that stuff into rpg stuff ever in any circumstance, but some people probably do, so whatever.
Though it is really messed up what he was doing in the first place, it's even worse that he not only did it during a d&d game, but that the DM even allowed it and did a one on one with him that involved it, but didnt inform the others what twisted stuff went on, even if only telling them the less detailed version of "the ranger did weird/strange stuff with his dog". Instead the DM just said nothing.
Tyat implies heavily that the DM either was just too scared to say no, was super chill and supported anything players wanted no matter how weird and messed up, or the DM was into it too but didn't tell the other players directly cuz he didn't want to lose them as friends over the weird stuff he was into. No matter what, it should never have happened. If the ranger and the DM wanted to do that, they could have went separate from the d&d sessions and did a separate one on one that did not involve the main story and players in any way.
The players also are at fault though. Especially when the rogue and cleric's players are married irl, and the rogue could have told cleric or warned her "hey, the new guy is weird and does questionable things involving his dog, be aware of that before you go to the next session". Like, the cleric should have been warned beforehand. But what would gave prevented it even sooner was if they talked to ranger and/or the DM about it when it started being odd, before it got any weirder or escalated that far. Like, everyone us at some level of fault in that situation. But the ones most at fault are the Ranger (obviously) and the DM himself for not only allowing this, but actively encouraging it by doing 1 on 1 with the ranger involving it.
That whole thing was easily preventable by either DM saying no, ranger letting that side of himself be let out elsewhere in other ways that weren't a D&D game, and/or the players talking about it with at least DM, if not both DM and ranger.
The players are fully at fault.... If they all agree on not wanting that kind of stuff at their game, they couldve said so. There is nothing wrong trying to bring that stuff into your game when you think people wont mind it as its all just fantasy/roleplaying.... and specially because noone said anything about it, it was morelikely understood as approval. Also... when you are never allowed to bring your kinks/fantasies up about ''weird'' stuff, you will never find likeminded people and will be stuck on your computer...... oh wait... we alreaday have a Gen Z.
This is the first episode where I actually agree with all their takes 😂
I love Wife's commentary. She is so non-judgemental and helpful. A rare and fresh experience among people who read reddit stories on YT. Keep at it!
the last story is... wow... especially for a party of players that didn't sign up for that. It sounds like the DM was into it, since they not only allowed it, but also had a full on short solo session with them, doing stuff...
This line of content is so enjoyable, seeing the aspect of other groups issues & overcoming said issue (if able) allows for great growth. Also the humor of it all is nice to hear.
The show is filmed on a green screen!? Mind blown. 🤯 Your channel is my new favorite thing. Love your content!
Actually massive props for handling the final story with such maturity. Seriously a breath of fresh air when the weirder stories come up and they are talked about in a mature manner

That's why i only invite to dnd people who i knew irl before, or at least my close friends knew and are sure they are normal. Cause imagine such weird dude joining a long campaign
I have been running D&D at my local game store for a few years & have had to deal with a few players who decide to go off on their own & doing stupid stuff.
A player joined an established group that I was running for because there was an opening. The first few sessions were okay, fought a couple battles together. The group was on a mission (I'm pretty sure they were rescuing someone from a high security prison). The group got to a point where there were traps & puzzles they had to disarm or figure out to find the right path forward. The group was in a safe, defensible area to discuss how get past the next area (6 doors, all doors were magical in some way). They asked the bard questions since he's an arcane caster but his arcana rolls were low so his character didn't get any kind of sudden insight about the magic of the doors. While the group was talking, the bard decides to sneak down the hall & open the door farthest from the group because his character was bored. The group doesn't realize this at first, by the time they do, the bard has walked into the room behind the door.
In the room, the bard sees small piles of golden items towards the back of the room, some gold statues of what looks to be various humanoids in different poses scattered around, the walls & floor have a golden color to them, & at the back wall, there's a large gemstone with gold veins running through it on a golden pedestal. The bard goes into the room because he wants the treasure. I have him make a couple saving throws while he's in the room. When he passes one of the statues, he looks at it & I tell him the statue looks weird, there's a look of horror on the statues face & the statue is positioned as if it was heading towards the door. The bard decides to keep going into the room towards the treasure piles.
At this point, (equivalent of maybe 30 seconds for the characters), the rest of the group notices the bard is missing & sees the door that's open. They go down the hall to see what's happening. They see the room, know it's obviously a trap, tell the bard to get out, the bard says he wants to grab the treasure. I still have him making saving throws for every round he's in the room & the failed saving throws are starting to noticeably affect him. His feet & hands start to feel stiff, he's having trouble walking normally. He says this to the other characters, they have the fighter run in, pick up the bard, who has slowly been turning to gold, & run out of the room. Once out of the room & the door shut, the transformation starts to reverse & the bard returns to normal (nobody was high enough level for dispel magic at that time). The characters were upset with the bard for endangering himself & possibly the party by going off on his own like that, especially not knowing what was behind any of the doors. They said that they need to work together to survive this because it's only going to get more dangerous.
The bard started to act out a bit after that, trying to be a front line fighter during combat even though they had a support build, which caused an unnecessary drain on the cleric's healing. The player didn't last in the group for much longer.
As far as the third story, I don't know how the DM could have let it get that far, except if they aren't the type of person who likes to tell people "no".
In the game I run, a player attempted to do something inappropriate with another player but I put a stop to it really quickly. The players were friends for years, but I didn't want it to escalate past a certain point.
The same group as above (not including the bard) were in a dungeon. As background info for the campaign, the characters were kidnapped at 1st level & thrown into a cell on an island. They were being watched through magic by beings who placed bets on them. So they were being watched all the time & the characters eventually found this out. The characters also know that if one of the watchers wins big on something they do, they might be rewarded with something they need.
In one of the dungeons, the male drow cleric died, had to be reincarnated, & came back as a female halfling. They got some makeshift clothes for the cleric & found a safe room they could stay in courtesy of one of the watchers who won a large bet. The room had enough beds for everyone, a bath, fresh food, & I think some basic clothes for the cleric (this was a long time ago so my memory is fuzzy).
After getting clean & eating, they all go to bed. The tiefling rogue tries to climb into bed with the halfling cleric & the cleric says that they back away from the rogue (they have been in a new body for less than a few hours at this point). The rogue doesn't back off & the player seems a bit unsure what to do, so I have a large hand come down from the ceiling (like in Legend of Zelda), pick the rogue up, drop him in a bed on the opposite side of the room, do a finger waggle of shame, & disappear into the ceiling. The rogue apologizes, the player says he was trying to joke around, & we all move on.
I love the hand thing! That’s a brilliantly comedic yet no-nonsense way to defuse that! I’ll have to remember that.
"Not my dog, not my table" 🤣
“DND rules aren’t so much rules as they are… guidelines.”-said in Gibbs voice
I love the conflict resolution that has come out of you're wonderfully wholesome relationship! I love the video and all of you're content can't wait for the next video!
Second story the instageter forgot to shout "LEROY JENKENS!!!".
I Really like these new vids! keep it going! you both doing a wonderfull job
The DM definitely at least thought it was ok and had a discussion with the Ranger that should have happened with the whole group
It makes me wonder if other similar but non-dog activity had happened with the other players. Like some side-RP scene with a barkeeper or whatever. The DM may have had no moral complaints and so saw it as being basically the same. If the story is real (I'm VERY doubtful based on the pacing, how no one said anything, and the way that the clickbait subject got predictably amped up with the non-consensual fluids exhibitionism stuff) I'd imagine it may well be a situation involving one or more neurodivergent late-teens or early-20's. I could totally see that happening.
Great opportunity to re-iterate that everyone being understanding and consenting adults is absolutely, 100%, always required when dealing with sexual or fetish situations.
Funny thing with that first story - in the middle of winter in Australia the sun actually DOES set much earlier than 8. Though usually not til a bit before 5. Even in summer it doesn’t tend to stay up long past 6pm or so down here.
I might as well add a story here 😂
I as a blood hunter i snuck into a mansion of a local lord to gather information while my party was waiting outside. I came across a prisoner that was innocent but locked up unfairly. So I did the logical thing and broke his chain with my sword picked up the naked man bridal style ran down the hallway chased by guards and I jumped out a window. I’m on the second story and already low, so when I failed the acrobatics check my party sees me hit the ground fall unconscious and break the naked man’s neck killing him instantly. 😂😂
I really like these videos. Keep them up!
Duke's soul left his body after Wife questioned the solo session.
I love this series. Also we get to know WIFE more then just hearing her laugh in the background.
To the first one I memorize rules way too easily so I'm often the "rules lawyer", but trust me when I say you'll enjoy the game a lot more if you don't worry about the rules/strive for perfection, you have to learn to take an "ok but this is how it's going to be" which if you were raised perfectionist is hard but you'll have so much more fun if you do. The rules are there as a story telling mechanic, but like anything in story telling, it can be thrown out the window and the story won't just spontaneously combust.
There’s someone, I think it was Zee Bashew, who made a distinction between “Rules Lawyers” and what he calls “Rules Traditionalists”. They both prefer adherence to RaW, but the lawyers generally try to use it to their benefit while the traditionalists simply find it the most fun. The traditionalist is the more likely of the two to help the DM when they’re struggling to make a call, or ask questions (not confront) if something conflicts with their understanding, and roll with the call that the DM makes.
I LOVE THESE STORIES! don’t stop!
The "too stupid to dodge attacks" dude was playing Paranoia while everyone else was playing Only War. LOL
The whole dog thing what a band way funnier if it turns out the dog was actually disguised as a dog having the ability to transform and this entire time was actually humanoid person describing themselves as a dog.
I love this series! :) please keep it up! :)
I'm less concerned about the dog fucker, and more concerned that DM let this go on for more than one session
25:00 While disgusting, Duke's reaction is amazing.
I would note that for the third story, remove the detail about the dog, and you have an issue that comes up in a lot of TTRPG games. It's the same boundaries. It's the same sort of thing that could make people feel uncomfortable were it with any species. It has nothing to do with disliking people who are into a kink. It has everything to do with people RPing s** and mas*****tion IN THE SAME ROOM the other players are in. As if doing it with an animal makes it okay?
Yeah, my therapist will be hearing about the dog story
When I am DM, or sometimes even as a fellow player, I will flat out ask "where are you going with this, what is your purpose?" It is not mean, you are making sure you get what they are doing, and they get what they are doing. SOMETIMES there is disconnect between what the game master says and what player(s) understand it to mean. A follow up question helps to prevent misunderstandings.
As the person in my groups most familiar with the rules, I have found “technically the rules say ______, but it’s the DMs call” works wonders.
To the first one, you can always have an in-group rule to resolve things. For example, lay out all the ideas people have, and then each roll for highest. Highest roll gets the go-ahead. If it's a point critical to the plot, DM gets it. Something like that. Or have the DM roll with advantage on something like that so it's usually the DM's call, but sometimes the player's call. Some process that arbitrates consistently, fairly and functionally to the agreement of all involved. I mention dice because randomness is often accepted as fair.
A deck of cards would also work and may be even better, because then it's also part-deterministic whether someone gets a break or not.
Related to the first story:
People really should be more kinder and think of their DMs as allies and instead of enemies. I say this as someone who unfortunately had an unplesant experience with a DM that was really trying to compete with us players and outsmart us, beside being extremely controlling over the story and letting us have little to zero say in things: long story short they ended up kicking out anyone who didn't "fit in the story anymore", me included, and the players that remained never stood up against this behaviour and even encouraged it so believe me when I say it SHOWS when the DM wants to be your "enemy".
But this story although bad has an happy ending:
Now it's been a couple of years and I'm DMing for the first time for my besties group and I swore to myself to never make the same mistakes my ex-DM did or ever make my players feel costricted or invalidated cause the main goal of Dunegon and Dragon (imo) is just to have fun with friends and let our imagination run wild
Love this new content!
Ngl, last story had me howling with laughter. Now that’s a horror story haha.
They really need a session zero and make clear lines on what’s allowed in the game. All tables have their lines in what’s allowed. Communication is key. This is a good cautionary tale haha.
Late to this, but the last story reminds me of a the "What do you call a Ranger without an animal companion? A virgin."
Given all the horny Bard memes D&D is certainly going down some strange paths.
As someone who lives in the nordic's, the sun absolutely goes down by 4pm during winter. It is pitch fucking black her by 4pm during winter time.
Great video
I have a thing to say about the third one. While yes time people place but also the dm was going along with it and while the players where going WTF to each other it doesn't really seem like anyone told them it wasn't the place ever... so yeah
Bruh...the DM should have nipped that in the bud. Like yeah I made jokes about my chevalier's horse having a crush on our party's centaur bard AS A JOKE, but that dude's shit was just not even remotely okay.
"What the dog doing?"
Constructive audio suggestion here! Could you please pan / redirectp the audio track of your better half to the left and yours to the right so that it aligns with your position in the screen. It's as easy as changing the volume when you know where to find it in premiere pro. It will really ease listening it with headphones. Great content as always. Take care
That last story, so yeah we basically have a saying in my group "Why do you have to be weird..." "like why" we actually question them on it. But if they are some random on the internet or just in general I straight up boot them from the table.
I was blown away when I realized the background was green screen 😂 I would have never guessed
I know many people have a different way of calling rule lawyers their names, but istg rule nazi caught me so off guard that i don't think I'm ever going to call them anything else ever again 😂
Remember, rules lawyers are good-aligned and helpful. Much like real lawyers, they're often unfairly maligned.
Rules Nazis are rules lawyers gone bad, who create problems out of their knowledge or obsession. :P
Be sure you don't offhandedly call someone a rules Nazi without them deserving it!
i reckon the dm and the rouge where just completelty f-ing with the charecters lol
It seemed the ranger was trying to create a reaction from the other players. Starting off with little hints and escalating. They wanted their character to be confronted about this. For the DM to let it happen this long and even a one on one session, maybe nothing really transpired but they wanted that hesitating thought in every ones mind so he would be confronted about it. Now after being confronted I have no clue where they wanted the story to go
First dm sounds like an "everything is allowed" dm
