Watching this makes me remember just how good soaps used to be. The acting, the storylines, and also that sense of ensemble cast (even with those few standouts) that made it a pleasure and a must-see to watch. This was right before I actually began getting hooked on AMC, but now I wish I had started watching even sooner!!!
You got that right it was a small ensemble of actors in New York in there small studio on Columbus Ave. I lived in New York 1988-1992. A lot of the soap actors lived on the upper west side.. close to work. The shows also had an intimacy about it
Yes, Best soap opera of all time. I just attended Agnes Nixon's funeral as she was family. It made me want to revisit some of these classic episodes. Thanks for posting!
Wow. Peter Bergman was really beautiful back in the day. I was in the second grade in 1980 and I remember watching AMC with my Mom but I had forgotten how beautiful he was. I had to google that beer-shampoo after seeing the commercial....
I just discovered these episodes. Thank you so much! I watched these episodes with my mom when I was 7. I'll never forget being terrified of Palmer and that Doberman!
Daytime soaps are the only TV genre that has actually devolved over the years in terms of writing, production values, acting, direction, all of it. This era was the peak. Compare this to the low-budget, low-effort soaps of today. Nearly 45 years later and I remember watching this episode like it was yesterday
OMG- a can of Starkist was 79 cents. Wow! The ads..the familiar voices of the announcers.. I miss these characters - they were part of life for years and years.
Call me crazy but Brooke looked GOOD as a 1920's Flapper. Langley was handsomely unrecognizable as Marc Anthony! I SOOO remember the opening! Ruth and Joe are BRILLIANT in their dos!
I just started watching your AMC episodes starting 1980. This was my most favourite soap ever and I miss it so much! I started watching in 1980 when we got a TV in our lunch room at work and I had 1pm lunch hour. It was on the tv so I watched and got hooked. Started recording them shortly after that. It will be fun watching all over again. It is even fun watching the old commercials!
Love how Julia Barr actually looks straight into the camera and smiles before opening the door ... a little blooper that execs thought they could get away with.
So many great sets. And they all look real. These days the sets are all in front of a bush or a cheap wall. The soaps are given no budget these days. So sad how they have fallen. Maybe the ratings wouldn't be so back today if they would spend some money.
Well for this event they filmed inside an actual manor so they'd better look real! But I agree. They even licensed Beatles songs for some of the music.
I know I was watching at this time - would’ve been 7 years old. My first memories of the soap are Lars, Daisy and the locket. Watching this brings back vague memories from the back of my mind!
thx for up loading this i started watchin all my children a few years back & ive always wanted to see some of the older episodes. i really love this show
Wow thank you!!!! :) So many memories!!! Hey most of the commercials were 4 each. :) Langley: After all, we are just next door. Phoebe I know. But I want Benjamin to drive us. If it's just next door, why do you need him to drive you? ROFL! :)
sonyab1974 . I remember , I remembered that sing long time ago I used to watch him my mom my grandmother God bless her God bless that woman that poor thing she really I miss my grandma sounds that wish I could go back in time
Thanks for sharing this with us. I appreciate all the time and work. This is a real treasure. So many fascinating characters. I like seeing a more naughty Brooke, getting to see the early gothic side of the Cortlandts, a slightly more dangerous Daisy, and just the fun of Joe, Ruth, Charles, Mona, Phoebe, Langley, so many others. There are a few drags (dull Tara, that annoying Sybil and Betsy who seem like two sides of Betty Boop), but no show is perfect. And that endless muzak of "Something".
Love this clip commercials and all. I think the couples portrayed here were all just in the beginning of their relationships. In my opinion Brooke had the best chemistry with Adam. I really miss this show.
Phoebe: "Poor thing. Her husband's probably dead, you know." I love her! It's cool how they have Gillian Spencer (Daisy) wearing that wig ...... so she can reappear later with her short hair as "Monique Jonvil."
OMG I started watching AMC in 1979-1980 due to my 7th grade English teacher, I crushed on, watched it. & my mom switched from Another world to AMC for some reason.
Is that Mary Lynn Blanks playing Tara? I guess this was after Phil went off on an assignment, but before he was presumed dead? So many blasts from the past -- Tara, Betsy Kennicott, Sybil Thorne, Chuck and Donna, Frank Grant ... And doesn't Brooke look wonderful as a flapper! What a great show this was. So many fantastic characters, compelling storylines. They don't make 'em like this anymore. And the room where Frank and Betsy, and later Palmer and Ruth, have their conversations is modified from the drawing room on Dark Shadows. The fireplace and the french doors are the same.
I had just started watching around this time, in fact, I can recall Edna and Dottie were taken hostage by someone, possibly Billy Clyde, and Benny posed as a medic to get in there and rescue them. It was the earlier Benny, not this one. Edna didn't seem to stay around long after that, and I was rather disappointed to see her leave. Tara is just nothing here, isn't she? I never did understand what she was supposed to have been about.
I am loving Edna. I caught her when she came back in the 1980s with Dottie, but her performance here is just fantastic, especially the look on her face when the guy from NOLA parks himself next to her.
Oh, TOO many memories all at once! David Hartman, Good Morning America. World News Tonight, the Twin Towers, Peter Jennings. The miracle of Lake Placid, Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner. Commercial jingles. Nina's masquerade birthday ball. I think the next episode is when Palmer realizes Daisy is the party crasher and corners her outside threatening to sic his attack dogs on her - absolutely terrifying the first time I watched it...
Does anyone have the episode that ESTELLE was kidnapped by BILLY CLYDE and saved by Benny and Chuck? It was aired around early September 1980.Thank you!
I remember that storyline well. He put her in a coffin & held her captive at the mausoleum. During that time Leora, Curt & Carrie Sanders were living next door to the Martins. The show explored a powerful domestic violence story where Curt was an alcoholic who would often beat the hell out of his wife. There was a Thanksgiving episode in particular when Carrie & Leora ran up to the bedroom & barricaded themselves from his wrath. It was cutting edge to address such a controversial issue in such a frank way back in 1981. It was disturbing to watch unfold, but Andrea Moar, Lizbeth Mackay & Bill Ferriter did an amazing job in that storyline. John E. Dunn played Tad during that time. He & Carrie were besties who shared many scenes together, bonding while smoking pot. Brooke was also taken in during this period by a woman in a wheelchair known as Cobra who ran a drug underworld posing as her mother who ran a drug ring. The actress was played by Patricia Barry. 70s to mid 80s AMC were the show's golden years imo
The 80's was the era of the soaps, whether daytime or nighttime, they were so damn entertaining! The acting and the writing was unbelievable! Trouble was, it was just a little too good, so there was nowhere for it to go but downhill, and that's just what happened. Today's soaps are mediocre in comparison.
Are soaps still around even? I agree. This was something else, but life has changed and people are not as focused on dialogue and interaction, just more action and immediate gratification.
I was in college this year, All my children was on at noon to 1 so everyone watched it in the TV room. Remember the twin women and one gets in a well and the other takes over her life and no one knows ? It’s so long ago I can’t remember what year Erica must have been married 10 times. The two millionaires who both married her ?
It’s funny when Palmer announced it was Nina’s 19th Birthday. Because in 1980 Taylor Miller was 27 years old. Yikes! I’ve heard of playing younger but 19 might have been pushing it. Peter Bergman was also 27 years old but I’m not sure how old Cliff is supposed to be. Since he was doctor I’m assuming in his mid 20’s. The costume party is amazing. The good ole days when soaps had a budget and would hire 100’s of extras. Good memories.
The instrumental song is called "Thank Heaven For Little Girls" from the musical "Gigi." That's probably why Palmer calls Nina "my favorite girl" just before it starts.
I think Susan Lucci had her daughter in 1975 and her son after 1980 so I’m not sure where Susan Lucci was. Maybe, on vacation or doing another project. This was 1980 and AMC and Susan Lucci were super hot.
Only us older people know who madge was...I mentioned it to the woman who was doing my nails at Christmas when I was doing the finger soap part, and sh just looked at me...had to explain madge and Palmolive...😅
Playing Daisy? That's soap veteran Gillian Spencer ("Guiding Light", "One Life to Live", "As the World Turns"). She looks very much like Constance McCashin from "Knots Landing".
I wuold like to see, pleasethe video 2001 the costume party where Leo as a prisoner,Cleopatra/Vanessa/marj dusay Cleopatra beautiful as jess walton in yuong and restless. there is also james mitchell julius causare Also videopalmer s and vanessa wedding. Thank you very much.
Back in the day when soap operas had class!
Love all those commercials! A lot better than the crappy ones they have today.
It seemed like AMC was a family
Of actors. Our family started watching AMC & OLTL in 1979.
GOD bless you. Did she publish her Autobiography?
Keep them posting in chronological order.
Wow. Peter Bergman was really beautiful back in the day. I was in the second grade in 1980 and I remember watching AMC with my Mom but I had forgotten how beautiful he was.
I had to google that beer-shampoo after seeing the commercial....
With the commercials it’s just like it was yesterday I saw this episode.
Agree!!!
Love the old commercials❤...
I must’ve been home from school on the day this aired because I remember seeing the episode.
I watched this when i was 16 and loved it. Seeing this now at 58 is even more fun!!!!!
IMO, All My Children was at its best during this period! Thanks for posting.
I totally agree I loved the gothic quality of the nina cliff storyline. Later in the 80s the show became a parody of itself and was a bit silly.
The commercials are priceless.
that Fritos commercial.. it worked back then, and it WORKS NOW !!!!
I just discovered these episodes. Thank you so much! I watched these episodes with my mom when I was 7. I'll never forget being terrified of Palmer and that Doberman!
Just stopping by in 2022
2024 for me...

Did you hear they’re optioning bringing “All My Children” back as a Lifetime miniseries?
Frito's go with lunch! I forgot about that jingle. Love it!
Love how Julia Barr actually looks straight into the camera and smiles before opening the door ... a little blooper that execs thought they could get away with.
thanks for this .. totally classic .. and I dig the commercials too!
I was in first grade here. I always watched this in the afternoon. My baby sitter and my mom always watched this when she wasn't at work.
I'm in heaven! Thank you so much for posting these!
So much fun! I do miss this classic AMC.
So many great sets. And they all look real. These days the sets are all in front of a bush or a cheap wall. The soaps are given no budget these days. So sad how they have fallen. Maybe the ratings wouldn't be so back today if they would spend some money.

The same floors where Dark Shadows was filmed were the same ones All My Children was filmed in.
4:28-4:57 - Flashback! - Polaroid commercial with James Garner.
Thanks for these. Seems like it was just like yesterday when I saw this. Love the commercials too
I was almost 2 years old when this aired🐻
I know I was watching at this time - would’ve been 7 years old. My first memories of the soap are Lars, Daisy and the locket. Watching this brings back vague memories from the back of my mind!
You're welcome--just glad others appreciate these!
It was so cool seeing Gillian Spencer playing the free-spirited Daisy after playing such a goody-two-shoes on "As the World Turns."
I just love phoebe and the colors that she wears rather it be in cousume or not the color sure does look good on her and she is my favorite
Thanks so, so much for this. I've been itching to see this again for years.
Lawd, I miss this show :(
Palmolive and Madge went with AMC like chips and dip.
thx for up loading this i started watchin all my children a few years back & ive always wanted to see some of the older episodes. i really love this show
I love this! Thank you!! 💟💟
Wow thank you!!!! :) So many memories!!! Hey most of the commercials were 4 each. :)
Langley: After all, we are just next door.
Phoebe I know. But I want Benjamin to drive us.
If it's just next door, why do you need him to drive you? ROFL! :)
Phoebe was all about appearances.
sonyab1974 . I remember , I remembered that sing long time ago I used to watch him my mom my grandmother God bless her God bless that woman that poor thing she really I miss my grandma sounds that wish I could go back in time

HAHA......😀🤦♀️😀
Phoebe: "Poor thing. Her husband's probably dead, you know."
I love her!
It's cool how they have Gillian Spencer (Daisy) wearing that wig ...... so she can reappear later with her short hair as "Monique Jonvil."
It didn't sound like it at first but I knew I knew the song from somewhere. Gigi Thank Heaven For Little Girls!
OMG I started watching AMC in 1979-1980 due to my 7th grade English teacher, I crushed on, watched it. & my mom switched from Another world to AMC for some reason.
The look on Palmer's face when Cliff kisses Nina,,, priceless.

I never did understand what she was supposed to have been about.

let the universe help us, let find a quiet spot and get together this our time. too make different in the our world.

Omg...this was filmed 1 month before I had my second child...
Gillian Spencer was also the 2nd longest running actress in the role of Victoria Lord Riley Buchannan.

I agree. This was something else, but life has changed and people are not as focused on dialogue and interaction, just more action and immediate gratification.
Speaking of this episode, The Ten commandments is on right now on the west coast
I was in college this year, All my children was on at noon to 1 so everyone watched it in the TV room.
Remember the twin women
and one gets in a well and the other takes over her life and no one knows ?
It’s so long ago I can’t remember what year
Erica must have been married 10 times.
The two millionaires who both married her ?
Langley and Palmer would have made the PERFECT couple.
Daisy looks better with short hair
i love amc!!!!
In This Clip, From 0:02 To 0:06, It Was WABC-TV's Shaft Video ID For Saturday Night, February 16, 1980.
It’s funny when Palmer announced it was Nina’s 19th Birthday. Because in 1980 Taylor Miller was 27 years old. Yikes! I’ve heard of playing younger but 19 might have been pushing it. I need to know the song Palmer is dancing to with Nina plus where's Erica?
***** I believe actress, Susan Lucci was on maternity leave at the time while the writers waste no time for Brooke and Tom to go together to the party
Palmer was really unnaturally in love with his daughter, wasn't he ... the way he looks at her is downright lascivious.
No it isn't. He was just an overprotective father. Nothing lascivious about it
How long were Nina and Palmer in town by the time of this episode?
interest
I don't remember that Tara. Was that actress short lived?
DAISY: There weren't THAT many lovers. LOL
AUG 3 1981 YOU TUBE REQUEST
My mom watched AMC daily for 25 years until her death in 1999 she hated Adam Chandler with a passion
Holy hot wings thats Constance McCashin
Playing Daisy? That's soap veteran Gillian Spencer ("Guiding Light", "One Life to Live", "As the World Turns"). She looks very much like Constance McCashin from "Knots Landing".

I always
liked Langley , he could handle Phoebe 😂
I didnt know Daisy had long hair.
Whats the song being played? Great song
Why did Palmer want everyone to think Daisy was dead and why did He want to keep Nina from marring Cliff
Because he was egomaniacle and possessive.
"Shaft, tomorrow night at 11:30"
Ok but was that supposed to be the 9:00 movie?
Oh it's a Black man. Excuse me!
WOW that is some bad acting lol
