She MASTERS this song. The true timing takes serious vocal skill. But Anita NAILED it!!! She has the perfect voice in my opinion. I love the pure crisp sound she shared with us all. Fabulous singer! No one compares, at least to my ears!😂😂😂
Anita had a unique way of singing, she sang in between notes and at her own pace, unless she was singing with someone else. RIP, one of, if not the greatest female singers ever......
Johnny Cash used to say and write that the two greatest female country voices belonged to Anita Carter and Connie Smith. He also wrote that Anita could have been much bigger but often asked her sisters to join her and the result would often be more of a group (the Carter Sisters, or Carter Family). Her range was incredible and her ability to project in person caused quite a lot of adjustments with sound people.
i saw johnny&june in 1985.anita was sing backup with tem at that time as soon as she sung her frist note the whole audience gasped, you could hear people whispering"who the hell is that?" the sound was stunning. she litterally sounded like an angel from heaven, just like people say, an angel. recordings dont capture it. june must have noticed the audieces reaction because at the end of the song she said "this is my sister anita" she was beaming with pride
this song is versatile it can be sang by different people and changed up a bit and still sound amazing i love her singing it and of course i love when johnny sings it but ive heard other renditions of it that i love too
Some of us have my friend. I first heard her back in 1969 in Vung Tau In South Vietnam. I had walked into the American PX and the man behind the counter was playing a record of her. People were standing around as the voice of Anita spread throughout the shop. I asked the man behind the counter who was singing and he replied 'the youngest of the Carter Sisters Anita! Stunning voice and I have followed her ever since. I am Australian.
@@happyolddude Your comment just made the book about the Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle era that I've been working on for over 4 years now. What is your first name? Anita Carters voice is amazing she was dubbed 'The Appalachian Angel" a long time ago.
@@tonylupo1764 Hello Tony - Thanks for writing. It is 4am in the morning here on a Monday 22nd and I was playing youtube as background and up popped the Carter family! What a coincidence. My name is Roddy.
Wow! a live version of my favorite version of Ring of Fire. The studio version has a fantastic eerie quality, and this one rocks too. Thanks for posting!
Anita is something of a mystery....so so talented. What kept her from being say a dolly parton....hmmmmm? So beautifull thanks so much for posting its great.
My great uncle Merle Kilgore co wrote this song with June and also stood as best man for Johnny Cash when he married June. The Carter’s are distant cousinsof ours. . Clifton CLOWERS is my great grandfather and my maternal grandmother is virginia Lea CLOWERS who along with my mother also gave birth to John Buck Green of lonesome river band fame who penned several bluegrass songs. My grandfather John Green married that pretty little daughter after meeting in Memphis in College. They had 4 children Joyce, Twins Jane and Joan and the youngest John who affectionately became buck or buckwheat. My mother is Jane who grew up West Virginia as John Green Sr. Took his bride virginia to Dub V and started a family far away from Woolverton/Wolverton mountain and Cliftons gun and knife in Arkansas Hurricane, West Virginia on Irene circle my grandmother Virginia raised her children soley after my grandfather died in the early seventies never marrying again. Now Clifton, John Green sr Virginia CLOWERS/Green and Merle Rest In Peace . My mother is in her early seventies now with Buck being the youngest of all 4 siblings still alive. I love my family.
love the way the song is sung by anita. its different of what usually is known but great. to me as an european it seems as if that way of music is right from the bible belt and as if i can hear some irish (celtic) heritage.
This live version with Anita singing "Ring of Fire" is awesome, my favorite version..just great and Anita's daughter Lorrie sings this song just like this still. Anita's sister June wrote this for Anita to record A little known fact that Anita wrote the melody and her sister left Anita's name off the credits when she took the song to get published. June witnessed first hand Hank Sr and Audrey's very passionate love-hate passionate relationship which I believe gave her the original idea for her to write the song about her and Johnny's relationship. Anita recorded it before Johnny...
@@andrewgoodbody2121 No actually Ring of Fire was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore for Anita Carters album "Folk Songs Old and New". Anita Carter actually came up with the melody but was not credited on the record. Anita's version came out about 6 months before Johnny Cashs version.
The first recording was by Anita Carter (sister of June) on her Mercury Records album Folk Songs Old and New (1963) as "(Love's) Ring of Fire".and some months later Johnny Cash released it in his Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash album (1963).
I always enjoyed this version over the cash version. I just heard this version again today for the first time sense johnny recorded it, seems this one just disappeared.
+hugeelen I was saying I stand corrected. I have no idea why I thought announcer acted unprofessional. Must have been sleep typing. Greeting to you as well
Helen was really exceptional in her own way. A true multi-instrumentalist (even more than the rest of the family) who arranged music as well, which was traditionally done by the men. As much as I hate to say it, but June did play some kind of ugly duckling role in the family, even though she was not ugly at all and had more musical talent than the average person.
Yes Anita has a lovely voice...can you imagine the angelic crystalline contralto Karen Carpenter singing this lovely song...and the warm tones Karen would envoke...
All the Carters are freakishly talented.
There is nobody else like them.
Certainly the best singer of The Carter Family. Gone too young.
Anita Carter was the best singer period !
One of the best voices in Country Music---pure

Absolutely the greatest !
I completely agree!
💯
Absolutely!
That lady was pitch perfect.
The voice AND face of an angel! RIP Anita
There something so sweet and dear about her voice. Never heard anyone could really match her in country music.
Johnny Cash used to say and write that the two greatest female country voices belonged to Anita Carter and Connie Smith. He also wrote that Anita could have been much bigger but often asked her sisters to join her and the result would often be more of a group (the Carter Sisters, or Carter Family). Caught a bit of that range. That high note was something else.
What a voice, Anita had.
yes
Absolutely but all the sisters could sing and Miss Maybelle
I really love her phrasing on this. Its such an honest and unpretentious reading of this classic song.

Do you remember where it was I want to search for it!
Anita has the voice of a song bird.
Beautiful singing by Anita. Nice thing about her was that she always kept her dignity.
i love anita carter!!! you will live forever!!! we´ll never forget you!! rip anita!!!
Anita Carter, definatley the best voice out of the Carter Family. LOVE HER!
At 1:22 the Appalachian Angel knocks it out of the park ! Amazing voice !
this song is versatile
it can be sang by different people and changed up a bit and still sound amazing

What a voice. Love her.
Sings amazing, she even talks like Angel.
WOW!!! This is the first time I've ever heard his woman sing. This blows my mind! She's amazing!
To je švagrová Johnnyho Cashe, manželka byla June Carter
That girl could sing like a bird! Love and appreciation to her!
No artists could do what the Carter Family did. Best music in the world.....as far as we old Hillbilly types think. Fo sho!!
What a gifted Voice!
The Carter family started the wonderful music we like to call Country!
A voice like an angel.
Beautiful Anita Carters voice❤️
Very beautiful song and the most beautiful voice, I´m absolutely overwelmed .Thanks stljpc.
wow, this one of the best versions of this song and Anita!
Perfection ! Taking it higher.
chills ... and tears ... just pure beauty
Dear God You are sooo lucky , you have her now, voice of an angel.
I have always admired ANITA CARTER, beautiful Voice. I prefer this original version, then Cash's version.
Maybelle would be proud.
Peace to you, Anita
I adore this version, it's the best!
An angel who walked among us mere mortals!
Anita had such a gorgeous voice!
Never got the recognition she deserved and is almost unknown. Great shame. By far the best of the Carters and a real great.
I think it has to be acknowledged that the three greatest female voices in history belonged to Patsy Cline, Karen Carpenter, and Anita Carter.
Too many, man. They are all immortal! I love Nina Simone.
Agreed. You need more than 3 to do it justice. I think Emmy Lou Harris deserves to be in there too.
Hum, how about Linda?
Anita should be first in that list though. :-)
Greenwolfe Green Well, you got two out of three. Patsy and Anita.
2021 never heard of her until yesterday. And now I'm am in love
I love her voice. A true angel.
Goregeous voice!
One of a kind!
Charming!
Thanks for posting.
Pure beauty. I agree with the poster who says they don't like country music but do like the Grand Ol' Opry sound. This is so good.
Its a shame, the Carter Family is known for their singing, not writing songs, but so few recordings survive.
don't you just love anita carter
Yes! Lol, I do, I think she is the best. 🙂
what a voice!!! Innocence and range and expression!!!
what a beautiful voice how come we never heard more of her
I believe Anita chose the life and the career she herself preferred.

One of the most beautiful natural voices ever recorded....and this from a self professed opera snob!

she is just gorgeous
it should be noted that anita sings on johnnys version too
the cooing back ground vocals, pure anita
Greatest voice ever.
Anita's version is by far the best.
I love that song
R.I.P. Anita Carter~ 12 years on this day.

Clifton Clowers from Wolverton Mountain fame?
what a great post! thanks!
I love her voice!!! But what she really could do better than anyone else was to harmonize. Unmistakable. And it is not a detract at all
wow!

The ring of fire was an old folk song brought from Ireland, June put a spin on it but most of the Carters music was as Irish as the family themselves!

Absolutely Beautiful from The One and only Anita Carter (June Carter's sister)
Goddamn, those birdy high notes!
Thank you.
its great voice
Beautiful
Wow so beautiful
That was great
Bella musica cultura y recuerdos.Un abrazo. A todos.

När man hör hennes röst så
Är den underbar
Att lyssna på för
Ljusnande musik
Hon hade den var bättre än juni
Carter sin syster.
Anita wonderful!
Some guy John r cash lol JOHNNY CASH baby! And she is amazing! Dont matter who did what she’s golden and so is johnny
Talented family!!!
She's beautiful!
Wow one picture of her. She loked like Linda Carter's mother. Wonder Woman's mother. And she sang like that. A real Beautiful Lady.
Great Voice!
I always enjoyed this version over the cash version. I just heard this version again today for the first time sense johnny recorded it, seems this one just disappeared.
Brilliant mate
june wasnt much of a singer, but she had a great character. so most people still love june :)
God damn she sure can sing! I hate to say it, but I think i like this rendition better
i love this song :D
shes pretty
Anita was being very gracious not feeling the need to insult Johnny Cash. The announcer however acted very unprofessional. Her voice is just amazing.
+Kat G I think the announcer was just joking... maybe ? Her voice is indeed amazing
+hugeelen I can't remember why I commented like that. No one was insulted. Hm?
No insult ! greetings !

Oh, that thrilling soprano !!!
Anita was the best pure singer of the bunch, and her sister helen was the only one of the bunch that could read music.
Helen was really exceptional in her own way. A true multi-instrumentalist (even more than the rest of the family) who arranged music as well, which was traditionally done by the men. she's also very good in I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You with her and hank
Yes Anita has a lovely voice...can you imagine the angelic crystalline contralto Karen Carpenter singing this lovely song...and the warm tones Karen would envoke...
Awesome.
I had no idea until recently that it was June carter who wrote ,ring of fire , I like Anita’s version with that high note
love it
MEMORY OF RADIO, SO WELL SHE SINGS SO BEAUTIFULLY ...
***** One of the greatest love songs ever, Joan
Great singer, her daughter Lori Carter Bennet sounds just like her
They are both great. I love this version better.
I hate contemporary country music. But, for some odd reason, I love this Grand Ole Opry type stuff.
The Carter familys influence is so underrated, as proved by this performance.
