  • Our 2003 Jeep TJ originally came with the upgraded 7 speaker stereo with center console mounted 6-3/4” subwoofer. Our TJ’s subwoofer and enclosure was removed, so simply replacing the woofer was not an option.
In this video, I show how I installed a Pioneer TS-WX130DA 160-Watt Class D self-powered subwoofer into the armrest. It pairs really well with the Polk Audio DB522 and DB652 speakers.

Great job! You should template all that out as a kit and sale it as a bundle package.

Just use good double sided tape like 3M VHB instead of the foam he used and you can stick the sub to the console.

nifty, should do a sound test with non copywrite songs so we can hear it

I’ll have a look and see what I can find. I could even compare it to a factory subwoofer system in our Wrangler JKU to have a better yardstick.

that'd be greatly appreciated, I have a kicker comp c 10" in my tj already that I use as a nightstand when I set up the hammock in it. but it takes a decent bit of room. Another question I don't remember seeing in the video, does it have a bass knob input port?

Space is an issue in a TJ! There’s a gain knob on the remote. Having it turned about mid way and tweaking with radio subwoofer output gain seems like the best compromise.

    Brilliant, thank you very much.
I bought the TS-WX010A, I have a jeep yj and I was thinking to put it in the passenger legroom.
I was advised that it will not make a difference in sound given that it is small and the loudness of the jeep.
I thought I would return it back, but I fell upon your video, and found it a nice idea to install it in the center console.
I would love to hear your thoughts about the sound quality. Me too don't want a louder sound, just want to play that low frequency bass tones clearer.
I appreciate if you can tell your experience.
    Thank you very much

I haven’t driven it on the road since we installed the subwoofer (my wife’s toy). I asked her how the stereo sounds and she said she can’t play it loud cause she can’t hear the CB radio (time to add an external CB speaker). Looks like we are about to get a stretch of decent weather without too much rain, so will be a great time to go for a quick drive and listen. I’m thinking of doing a copyright free music comparison between this and our OEM Alpine system (with subwoofer) in our 2013 JKU.

Made an audio track to test the TJ stereo vs the JKU. This sub fills in the lows, but doesn’t have the air movement to kick. When playing music and turning it on and off, it clearly shows that it’s working. Not as much kick as the factory Alpine system in the JKU.

I put a Rockville 10" sub (the ported box and amp kit) behind the seat in my YJ. Takes up about half the 'trunk.' I have a homemade trunk cover to keep people out of it. It works great. Sounds really good. Not as punchy as my old setup with 2 10" subs, but it gets plenty loud enough and sounds good.

This is what I am thinking of doing also, I have the same amp in my jeep under the back seat. Do you still have you mount pattern or could send me drawing with measurements. I am willing to pay for them.

The catch is I eyeballed the first few pieces. So the card board template won’t help without the other pieces.

Can this be done with an OEM radio or does it need to be a specific head unit?

This subwoofer works with RCA inputs as well as speaker level inputs.
If you replicate with a different unit, there are speaker level input to RCA available on the market.

Unreal..all this and zero demo...don't you check the video to see that it conforms to copyright..this video is useless to us who need to hear how it sounds...were you just too lazy to search and upload music that was copyright free...theres a ton of music out there that you could have used..but instead you edit the video to take the portion out but never replace it.....unreal

I tried to do a follow up video, but cellphone / GoPro microphones can’t pick up the low end reasonably well.
The experience & attempts confirmed my thoughts about all other videos I watched before making a gamble on this:
      - Very few have the right gear to test / record.
      - Most are full of distortion that makes the product sound cheap.
      - Very few listen on devices larger than a phone or tablet which lack woofer capacity recreate the low end frequencies.

You wouldn't actually hear what it sounds like anyway.
