Great video! I did Kili in Aug 2022 with G Adventures via the Machame route. We didn't get any precipitation but had similar challenges as you. It was good to see some different scenery though. We went to Stella Point via Barafu Camp. Too bad you missed the Baranco Wall, you would have loved it. Btw, go Dawgs! I just got back from Atlanta after being at the peach bowl. I'm not a UGA grad, but what an exciting game!
Great video! I’m doing this same route in September. I’m assuming you went in August? In the huts did it get cold? What rating of sleeping bag did you all use..0 degree? Also did you use crampons for the ice part? Lastly what time did you guys make it down on the last day? Thanks and great video by the way!!
So exciting to hear you’ll be doing this route! It’s amazing. We did the hike in early June and the huts got extremely cold. I believe we had -30 degree sleeping bags that could zip all the up around our heads. We did not use crampons, just good hiking boots and walking sticks. You probably won’t run into much ice or snow though! We got back to Marangu gate around 2:30 pm, but we had to stay at the gate for a long time having lunch and giving our information for certificates! Glad you enjoyed the video! Good luck!!
I am climbing the same route to summit this August. I am not a experienced hiker and I read articles saying this route is difficult due to shorter time frame. Do you think beginner can do this hike?
We had many inexperienced people who successfully did this climb. I think the main reason that this route is considered harder is because of the limited acclimatization time compared to other routes. Even the most experienced hikers can’t really train for altitude which is why acclimatization is super important. I think you’d be just fine!
This was the best video you’ve posted yet, looks like a lot of good times, hard work, and chocolate.
11:09 …nice fit
