Great vid Sean! Here’s my list: starting with the movies I didn’t liked: 9. Alien 3. I just can’t get over on those first 5 minutes but as a film I’ll admit that it’s better than some of the movies I have higher on my list. 8. AVP: Requiem. The movie is really dark and I couldn’t see anything in a large portion of it. However, I did liked the kills. 7. Alien: Resurrection. Never liked the tone and art style and I think it’s silly. Now for the movies that are just ok for me: 6. Prometheus. It looks amazing but I didn’t liked the story so much. Also, hated some of the characters and their choices. 5. Alien VS Predator. I like most of it, but hated the fact that it wasn’t R rated. 4. Alien: Covenant. This movie is the definition of Mid for me. The movie looks great but the story is lacking for me. Now for the movie I like: 3. Alien: Romulus. I really liked most of it but the callback lines were just awful. Now for the movies I love: 2. Alien. A classic movie and my favourite 70’s movie ever. A master piece. Loved Ripley and the creature design. 1. Aliens. My favourite sequel of all times. Loved the motherly theme of the movie. The cast is amazing, specially Newt, Hicks, Bidhop and Hudson. Ripley is such a badass in this one and the action is so damn good
Hilarious that James Cameron said he enjoyed Covenant but it wasn't the film he would have made because they destroyed a character you followed (i.e. the main girl from Prometheus), yet he seemingly approved the killing of John Connor in the latest Terminator....John Connor is a much more prolific character.
Haven't seen Romulus yet, I want to though, but here's my ranking of the Alien movies I binged a while back on Disney+: 9. Alien vs Predator: Requiem 3.5/10 8. Alien vs Predator 4/10 7. Alien: Resurrection 4/10 6. Alien³ 5/10 5. Prometheus 6.5/10 4. Alien: Covenant 7/10 3. Alien: Romulus??? 2. Alien 8/10 1. Aliens 10/10
The worst part about Alien 3 for me was that they didn't figure out a smarter way to pick up the story after Aliens. By starting immediately after Ripley's hypersleep, they had 4 options: A) Recast Newt because the actress would have been 6 years older, B) Cleverly write Newt out of the story, C) Neglect that Newt ever existed, or D) Kill newt. They somehow chose to kill her, along with Hicks who, let's be honest, was probably Ripley's soul mate. Had the story picked up several years or even months after Ripley had woken up from cryosleep, nobody would have cared that Newt wasn't in the movie.
Alien, Alien Romulus, then Aliens. . .makes the best trilogy. I was blown away by the sets of Romulus and practical effects. Even the space stuff look like miniatures. 😊
"Alien: Romulus" is indeed the best film since "Alien" and "Aliens". And here is my personal ranking of the "Alien" franchise (including "Romulus" and minus the crossovers): 1. Alien (1979) 2. Aliens (1986) 3. Alien: Romulus (2024) 4. Prometheus (2012) 5. Alien: Covenant (2017) 6. Alien 3 (1992) 7. Alien: Resurrection (1997)
Haven’t seen the AVP movies: 1. Alien Favorite horror movie. Love the slow burn tension buildup. 2. Aliens One of the best action movies ever. Bishop and Hicks are my favorite side characters in the franchise. 3. Romulus Top 3 movies are really the only ones I love. This one is easily the best since Aliens. I like the more creative choices at the end the more that I think about it. 4. Alien 3 Went in already knowing the beginning so I was able to sort of set my expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Don’t see myself rewatching though. 5. Covenant Same problems as Prometheus, but I liked the more horror approach. 6. Prometheus Don’t like the added lore, but it doesn’t bother me all that much because I kind of just set it apart from the originals. 7. Resurrection Thought it was really bad, and then the chestburster scene followed up by the newborn scene completely lost me. The newborn’s death scene was top tier comedy for me though 😅
I haven't seen the whole franchise yet but here's my ranking of the movies that I've seen 5. Alien 3 4. Alien vs Predator 3. Alien Resurrection 2. Alien 1. Aliens
There's a simple but effective method of ranking all the Alien movies: There's ALIEN, ALIENS & ALIEN 3 (in that order) all the rest, you put into a blender, set to maximum, blend, then pour the contents down the nearest drain or toilet. Job done 👍
I hardcore agree about Prometheus and most of your list as well. The special thing about the alien to me was always that these things were natural or a natural being in the vastness of space. We just discovered it by chance.
Would you please do a pitch for Aliens 3 where you flesh out a better version like what you said in the review. I would love to see you write out a more detailed story outline for a movie revision
As a huge Science fiction movie fan, I must say, that I totally agree with Your ranking. I have seen all Alien movies (Romulus included), and I must say that the new movie really nailed it. The atmosphere was really retro (Sounds and looks) and the actors did a really good job! One thing that i have to criticise about the movie though is, that the xenomorphs grow way too fast (totally unrealistic), also compared with the first movies. The best Alien movie ever for me is like You think James Camerons Aliens! I really agree with the things You said about that it is built on the first Alien movie and just continues this great movie in an even better way, giving the characters more depth and building up the tension! Building up the tension and horror is in my opinion something, that most new movies don´t do anymore... They are just too fast with meaningless action and often characters without depth....
Fun fact. AVPR was the first movie/thing I saw in 1080p as I got it on bluray with a Panasonic Plasma TV I'd purchased. The opening scene when the ship flies over and crashes into the forest was pretty special. Rest of it was just noises in the dark.
Great video as always! Completely agree on the CGI Ian Holme resurrection. It was completely unnecessary as that android could have been any actor and it felt like cheap fanservice in a franchise that has generally avoided that pitfall.
1. Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) 2. Aliens (Director's Cut) 3. Alien 4. Alien - Covenant 5. Prometheus 6. Alien - Resurrection 7. Alien - Romulus To me the AvP movies are their own universe
Prometheus answered the actual big question people had at the time and the question wasn't what a xenomorph was. The big quest was who is the space jokey, that's what the fans were asking at the time and the movie answers that
My rank would be 9. AVP 2 8. Prometheus 7. Covenant 6. AVP 1 5. Alien 4 Resurrection 4. Alien 3 3. Alien Romulus 2. Alien 1 1. Aliens I cant agree on the top 3 more.

1. Aliens 2. Alien 3. Prometheus 4. Romulus 5. Covenant 6. Alien 3 7. Alien Resurrection One thing I do enjoy about Alien, is the fact that everyone has a completely different order and ranking, which means none of these films have been completely wasted, as they're all appreciated by someone.
@@cooperwolfe5478 I know, and I really do love aliens. But because it’s more action than horror and I’m not a huge fan of army men, bad ass marine settings. Romulus was just more interesting and gripped me more. I’m seeing it again tonight. And with time maybe the list will shift again
Romulus was honestly as good as it could have been. Payed homage to 1 and 2 so perfectly and introduced its own spin in the final act. Yeah it’s fan fuel, but goddamn we deserved it after the last few !
This is my take, but the ending to Alien Romulus is the ending of Alien Resurrection done right. It was weird but I thought it might be the scariest part of the entire franchise. As for the original two, I like Alien a little bit more because it freaked me out a little more as a kid. When you wake up in the middle of the night and you see something that looks like a Xenomorph head, that’s what scares me.
9. AVP 2 8. Alien 3 7. Alien Covenant 6. Alien Resurrection 5. Alien Romulus 4. AVP 3. Prometheus 2. Alien 1. Aliens For me Romulus looks and sounds great but it's so derivative to the point it put me off. So close to being great.
Sean with rook in alien Romulus, I think it was intentionally meant to look like that because he was smashed in the head and attacked by an alien, his synthetic voice should be slightly behind his voice. I can understand if it wasn’t intentional but it would be really cool if they say that it was intentional
My take: 9 Covenant 2 of 10 8 Requiem 4 of 10 7 AVP 6 of 10 6 Prometheus 6 of 10 5 Romulus 6 of 10 4 Resurrection 8 of 10 3 A3 10 of 10 2 Aliens 10 of 10 1 Alien 10 of 10 For me, Alien is tied with Carpenter’s The Thing as my favorite horror movie of all time. Closely followed by The Exorcist and Carpenter’s Halloween. Aliens and Blade Runner are my favorite Sci-Fi movies, again, closely followed by T2, Predator and Terminator.
13:05, yes ,yes and yes! Seriously though, Alien resurrection is a guilty please for me. I was the right age to see this movie when it came out in 1997. (first year of high school). I remember watching as well as Startship troopers and 5th element around the same time. It was a great time for late 90s Scfi!. I didnt realise it was written by Joss Whedon until today though! This makes a lot of sense looking back at the movie.

Alien Resurrection 6.2 [269k] My Ranking 1. Aliens (9.0) 2. Prometheus (8.0) 2. Alien Romulus (8.0) 4. Alien (7.75) 4. Alien Covenant (7.75) 6. Alien 3 (7.0) 7. Alien Resurrection (6.5) My ranking is based on watching Romulus in cinema and taking the following 4 days to rewatch all 6 other movies. :-) So the impression is brand-new. I have two shared ranks I can't decide on. Concerning Romulus, this is based on only ONE view in the cinema. Potentially, this could become a sole 2nd rank but could also drop to rank 4. My only real difference to IMDB is Alien to me, while being THE milestone of SciFi-Horror-genre, it's slightly "outdated". Firstly, it has the slowest pacing and secondly to me, the visual and accustical effects made a huge step from Alien to Aliens.
Killing Newt & Hicks was the right move- her surviving Aliens was already a stretch; imagine her in that prison, hard pass. They had to die. It’s a nihilistic universe. And Ripley couldn’t have sacrificed herself at the end, if they were still alive.
Love "Alien 3," as well. Gimme "Alien 3" any day of the week. And yeah, the much longer Assembly Cut is definitely the way to go when watching it. Totally agree 100%. 😄👍🙂

@@ukrainefighter2456 For me, Romulus wasn’t scary, but my friend was very scared 😂. For the quality of the film, it’s genuinely fantastic and my 4th favorite of the year so far
I like this list
Loved Romulus when I saw it last night!
Here's my Ranking:
9. Requiem
8. AvP
7. Resurrection
6. Alien 3
5. Covenant
4. Prometheus
3. Romulus
2. Aliens
1. Alien
I think I speak for all alien fans when I say we want more uncomfortably intimate robot flute scenes in the franchise.
Great vid Sean! Here’s my list:
starting with the movies I didn’t liked:
Now for the movies that are just ok for me:
Now for the movie I like:
3. Alien: Romulus. I really liked most of it but the callback lines were just awful.
Now for the movies I love:

That's the most generous review I've ever heard of "AvP"! And you know what, I totally agree with you!
YES!!!!!!
1. Alien/Aliens (A+)

Haven't seen Romulus yet, I want to though, but here's my ranking of the Alien movies I binged a while back on Disney+:
9. Alien vs Predator: Requiem 3.5/10
8. Alien vs Predator 4/10
7. Alien: Resurrection 4/10
6. Alien³ 5/10
5. Prometheus 6.5/10
4. Alien: Covenant 7/10
3. Alien: Romulus???
2. Alien 8/10
Alien 3 is excellent as long as you watch the directors cut

I enjoy them all though. Honestly such a solid franchise.
Solid breakdown of a glorious but often troubled franchise.
"Alien: Romulus" is indeed the best film since "Alien" and "Aliens". And here is my personal ranking of the "Alien" franchise (including "Romulus" and minus the crossovers):
1. Alien (1979)
2. Aliens (1986)
3. Alien: Romulus (2024)
4. Prometheus (2012)
5. Alien: Covenant (2017)
6. Alien 3 (1992)
7. Alien: Resurrection (1997)
Haven’t seen the AVP movies:
1. Alien
Favorite horror movie. Love the slow burn tension buildup.
2. Aliens
One of the best action movies ever. Bishop and Hicks are my favorite side characters in the franchise.
3. Romulus
Top 3 movies are really the only ones I love. This one is easily the best since Aliens. I like the more creative choices at the end the more that I think about it.
4. Alien 3
Went in already knowing the beginning so I was able to sort of set my expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Don’t see myself rewatching though.
5. Covenant
Same problems as Prometheus, but I liked the more horror approach.
6. Prometheus
Don’t like the added lore, but it doesn’t bother me all that much because I kind of just set it apart from the originals.
7. Resurrection
Thought it was really bad, and then the chestburster scene followed up by the newborn scene completely lost me. The newborn’s death scene was top tier comedy for me though 😅
Great rankings. Loved Romulus. As more time passes the more I see Resurrection going up on people’s lists! Just a fun Alien movie IMO! Awesome video!

There's a simple but effective method of ranking all the Alien movies: There's ALIEN, ALIENS & ALIEN 3 (in that order) all the rest, you put into a blender, set to maximum, blend, then pour the contents down the nearest drain or toilet. Job done 👍
Only reason for me to rewatch AVP: Requiem is Predator Wolf. He's my favorite Yautja.
There are only 3 good Alien movies:

I hardcore agree about Prometheus and most of your list as well. The special thing about the alien to me was always that these things were natural or a natural being in the vastness of space. We just discovered it by chance.
I first saw Aliens as a kid. I loved the first one but the sequel blew my mind over and over again while I was legit terrified. I ❤that movie.

Would you please do a pitch for Aliens 3 where you flesh out a better version like what you said in the review. I would love to see you write out a more detailed story outline for a movie revision
Alien/Aliens A+
Romulus A
Alien³/Prometheus A-
Resurrection/AVP B+
Covenant B
Requiem C-
That’s a great ranking. If you had to pick between Alien and Aliens which one would you prefer.
Rest of it was just noises in the dark.
that must have been so disappointing dude
Idk I liked all the ones I have seen, but here is my ranking:
1. Alien
2. Aliens

Alien 3 was the first alien movie i ever saw so its not bogged down by the precedent of 1 or 2. I hold it in very high regard.
Alien is better than Aliens 👽
Absolutely agree with you.
Great video as always! Completely agree on the CGI Ian Holme resurrection. It was completely unnecessary as that android could have been any actor and it felt like cheap fanservice in a franchise that has generally avoided that pitfall.

Prometheus answered the actual big question people had at the time and the question wasn't what a xenomorph was. The big quest was who is the space jokey, that's what the fans were asking at the time and the movie answers that

@@cooperwolfe5478 I know, and I really do love aliens. But because it’s more action than horror and I’m not a huge fan of army men, bad ass marine settings. Romulus was just more interesting and gripped me more. I’m seeing it again tonight. And with time maybe the list will shift again
“The colony” a film following the break out on the colony before ripely gets there, so like newts origin story. (I’d love to see that as a film)
Romulus was honestly as good as it could have been. Payed homage to 1 and 2 so perfectly and introduced its own spin in the final act. Yeah it’s fan fuel, but goddamn we deserved it after the last few !

100 percent agree. It’s my favorite sequel in the franchise and think it’s fantastic. The Assembly Cut is the way to go.
Love "Alien 3," as well. Gimme "Alien 3" any day of the week. And yeah, the much longer Assembly Cut is definitely the way to go when watching it. Totally agree 100%. 😄👍🙂
