    Thanks for this! I was planning on using a Volvo fan controller with PWM on my EMU Black but was skeptical. Looks perfect!

    I'm using the same setup. I found my fan in a 2003 volvo s80. As long as it's the 3 wire controller it'd good. Cut the wires after the connectors so you can retain the plugs in your project!

    What size radiator do you have ? Stock FC are around 23in x 19in core if I recall..wondering if I could fit that on a Koyo or stock style rad. Nice setup btw !

      i dont remember the dimensions. I was the absolute biggest i could fit between the fram rails. Its a Be Cool radiator from the ls swap line of radiators. I got it from summit.

    Hey Thanks for the video. Did you leave the module wire to constant 12V when in the car? I have read where someone did that but didn’t know if that was legit and wouldn’t cause a battery drain

    • @redneckin8805
      @redneckin8805  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the main power is constant 12v. I only have the PWM wire switched.

    good evening, would you please answer a few questions. I bought the same fan from a volvo V70. I didn't know how to turn it on, I put a thick red wire on the + pole of the battery and a thick black wire on the - pole of the battery, I see that it also has a purple wire I also put it on + and half of the battery and I could not turn on the fan. Now I saw how you did it. Now I understand that with the purple wire, when the voltage is 1.5v, the fan works full 100%, when the voltage on the purple wire is 5.5 volts, it works 50%, and when the voltage is 10 volts, then the fan works 25%. My question is whether it is possible connect via a relay to obtain a voltage of 1.5 volts; 5.5 volts; 10 volts; and then to connect it to the thermal switch on the cooler. Is there any solution via a relay switch or something else, thank you for your answer. That is a very good thing, it does not burden the alternator with a large current when it is working at 100%.

    • @redneckin8805
      @redneckin8805  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The purple wire needs a pulse width modulated 12v. You change the fan speed by changing the duty cycle. Imagine a square wave with a 100hz cycle (100 cycles per second) and the fan only works when the 12v is on between roughly 10% and 95% of the time between cycles. The fan doesn't run below 10% and above 95ish% ( I think I have exact numbers in the video.) When you connect the purple wire to the positive post of the battery, that's essentially a 100% duty cycle.

      @@redneckin8805 what is the current in amperes on the purple wire when it is 100% at 1.5 volts, 5.5 volt 50%, 10volt 25% what is the current in amperes 30A or 50A or 70A because the fan when it turns on draws a lot of current I want to install in an old car FORD TAUNUS it has an alternator of 45 Amps

      @@redneckin8805 that's why I'm asking if there is a large amperage on the purple wire when it's connected to 1.5 volts or 5.5 volts, but I don't think it's large because the purple wire is thin, not thick, I'm asking because of the 12v module to buy that can handle the operation of the fan due to the ampere current. If you find out what the current is on the purple wire let me know thanks for the answers

      @redneckin8805  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never tried it but I don't think so. Fan doesn't run at 100 duty which would essentially be a ground.

    • @MIXMASTERBJB1
      @MIXMASTERBJB1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It cannot it uses stepped voltage and will only bump the fan for about 1 second when switched on has to have proper duty cycle like mentioned. If it did it would defeat the whole purpose of a fan controller you could just wire to traditional relay circuit and step the voltage up for fan speeds with a bank of relays
