Bitcoin ETFs Explained Simply

  • 11 Bitcoin ETFs are finally here. But what does that even mean? Our video on bitcoin ETFs explained will walk you through the reason we bought some bitcoin, the reasons you should buy a bitcoin ETF (or not), and of course we list out the 11 bitcoin ETFs investors have to choose from. The best bitcoin ETF is quite simply the one that charges the lowest fees. That Grayscale rubbish needs to be kicked to the curb (it is) while the Bitwise ETF should be avoided like the plague because that company is having legal problems. You can't go wrong by choosing the Blackrock bitcoin ETF (the iShares bitcoin ETF) while the Fidelity bitcoin ETF is also seeing solid inflows because of their great brand. We're leaning towards the ARK bitcoin ETF because they command a lot of attention from institutional investors and have the second-lowest fees. Ignore introductory expense ratio discounts and look at what they eventually will be. And if you're wondering whether it makes sense to just buy bitcoin using Coinbase instead of using a bitcoin ETF, we answer that question too.

Great channel, but having Coinbase hold your Bitcoin shows a clear lack of actually understanding BTC.

Cheers for the compliment sandwich ;) We've documented exactly why we've made that choice and you need to read the receipts before claiming we don't understand BTC.

I think the biggest benefit of having ETFs is financial advisors can now easily buy Bitcoin for clients and institutions can safely buy it without setting up cold storage

Excellent video as usual. Just wondering if a Bitcoin ETF total value is supported by an equivalent Bitcoin holdings. If it’s not, aren’t the ETFs akin to gold ETFs that are not really backed by physical gold? In other words monopoly/paper money?

Spot bitcoin ETF - from all accounts we've read - means they hold the physical bitcoin. Oh wait, there isn't any physical bitcoin. You know what we mean though. ;)

Fidelity is the only one that self custodies the Bitcoin . Grayscale keeps fees high because it’s customers are trapped. Most would face huge tax bills if they left fund.

One slide in the video shows the massive outflows from Grayscale which implies plenty of customers are exiting those high fees.

What legal trouble is Bitwise Investments having? Are you confusing it with Bitwise Industries? Those are two separate companies and are not related at all. I couldn’t find anything to verify your passing remark about it.

Yes, thank you for pointing this out. We assumed it was the same entity due to the name, but you're right that this isn't the case. We take back our comment on Bitwise Investments, in this case. We still would prefer a highly reputable manager like ARK, Fidelity, or BlackRock.

I invested in a set of limited edition air-guitars. Definitely not an infinite supply. A very good and trustworthy friend whom I never met in real life, advised me to do this. He's storing the physical air-guitars for me in his garage. Such a nice guy. I am now waiting for them to rapidly increase in value. He said this will happen soon because big whale price manipulators are going to buy up all the air-guitars soon.

I can see the possibilities with crypto, but so far it does not appear anyone is moving crypto to become a competing payment system. As far as replacing fiat currency, you can't replace fiat currency if you are being purchased with fiat currency and your value is based on circulating fiat currency. That whole thesis never made sense. I don't know how the Bitcoin community fell for that crap when they were literally purchasing crypto with fiat currency and the entire value of crypto was based on the ability of fiat currency users to buy more. How exactly does Bitcoin rise in value if no one has currency to drive its value up? And how does crypto replace fiat currency if it can't drive its own value up? It makes zero sense. So I bought coinbase for the crypto play because I could at least see how coinbase made money. If Coinbase eventually makes it easier to use crypto as a competing payment system with a lower transaction fee, then crypto will make sense.
