      Can someone attend law school with the intention to earn an advanced degree but not to become a lawyer in the future? Can someone attend law school with the intention of earning an advanced degree but never becoming a lawyer in the future and never practicing practicing law in the future? Disclaimer: What is written here is not legal advice of any kind whatsoever. It is not intended to be, was not intended to be, and should not be interpreted as such. I am not a lawyer. I have never and would never claim to be one.

    Process of how I chose to go to Stanford:
    1. Got into Stanford.
    2. Didn't get into Harvard or Yale.

      What was your LSAT score if you don't mind me asking? I want to get into Stanford as well :)

    • @Lets.Go.Brandon
      @Lets.Go.Brandon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@borna1405 I wasn't saying that I went to Stanford. I was making a joke about the fact that she made a whole video about the process of how to chose a law school, and said that the process by which she chose to go to Stanford involves a lot of "personal factors." Obviously, more likely than that Stanford was the perfect storm of location, program, and price, etc, she chose it because it is the rank 2-3 law school in the country. Almost anyone that gets into Stanford would have a pretty easy decision to make unless they got into Harvard or Yale or got a ride at some other T14. Almost everyone applying to Stanford is interested in nothing but its rank. Pretending that it went much deeper than that is pretentious.
      If you want average LSAT scores go to LawSchoolNumbers or USNews. They are very accurate. It's no secret what score you need to get into each school.

    If you are going to a T14 program, then your experience will be different from that lower ranked Law Schools. Vault 100 firms draw from T14 programs. Get into the best ranked Law School you can; it matters!
    If you are going to a lower ranked Law School, then select a state you would want to practice in, viz, if you want to practice in NY then look to NY law schools. Most Law Schools will give state specific classes in Wills&E, Crim, Con Law, Crim Pro, and Civil Pro. You will need this for the MEE section of the state Bar Exam.
    Further, you need to look to Law Schools in big cities. Small university towns have a small job market. Big cities have large a job market, i.e., a lot more jobs and networking opportunities.

    Why everyone suggest to communicate with university before getting the result of LSAT/GRE/IELTS? where their requirements are given on their website... Is contacting them made any change or its a process?
    Can you make a video on how to apply and admit to a law school?

    When you pay for law school, you are only taking on tremendous debts for a "REPUTATION. i.e. brand name" and an "EDUCATION". You cannot buy QUALIFICATION and CERTIFICATION. For that you have to actually take BAR BRI and PASS the exam. BY YOURSELF.

    I know this comment is really late because this video was posted a while ago, but I thought I'd ask my question anyway. If you get into a pretty good ivy league top school but not in the top 2 like Harvard or Yale do you still have a shot at working in big law in the area of corporate law? I haven't applied yet but I guess this is just a worry I have.

    • @FortheTimeBeingchannel
      @FortheTimeBeingchannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you do. Especially if your school has strong ties in the geographic area you want to work in. There are a few firms that might not consider you outright, but you still have a really good shot. I would get in touch with your career services office to see what firms come to OCI, and also ask about alumni to see where they work. Many of the firms I interviewed with also take from strong schools in the area (i.e. not only a Stanford student and a Yale student, but also one from Berkeley and UC Hastings, for example)

    Hi I just discovered your channel and I love your videos! I was wondering to get into stanford law was the university you went to for undergraduate prestigious as well? I will be attending a Cal state school but I want to get into a better law school after undergraduate. I'm just worried if the fact that I attended a lower rank school will affect my admission to a higher ranked law school.

    • @FortheTimeBeingchannel
      @FortheTimeBeingchannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Carol Lai I happened to go to a prestigious undergraduate institution (Uchicago) and I’m sure it didn’t hurt, but it seems like many elite law schools are trying to push for more diversity of undergraduate institutions in their admitted students! It’s more about your intellectual progress, your perspective, and your commitment. Cal state schools are fantastic and some of my friends in the 1L class are coming from them as well. Definitely don’t consider it a bar to applying!

      Carol Lai if you have good grades and a great LSAT and great letters of Reference you can get into just about any law school. My brother went to Brooklyn College, Graduated summa c** laude, scored pretty high on his LSAT 172. He got accepted to HLS, Stanford, waitlisted for Chicago, and Rejected by Yale. Of course Brooklyn college did also produce Alan dershowitz 😙.. Good luck in your future in law.

    I heard that law school barely gives fin. aid... Is standford (plus the other elite ones) a school that offers fin aid to public sector work?? or gives aid to students who need it?

    • @FortheTimeBeingchannel
      @FortheTimeBeingchannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      they do give financial aid, and some schools have a program called LRAP (Loan Repayment Assistance Program) that helps pay off loans for students who decide to do public interest work after graduation! I would reach out to the specific school for details.

    Legal skills and skills you learn from LAW SCHOOL are different. In the corporate world, law feels completely different from the intellectualising you "learn in law school" most of which is USELESS. An English degree is better preparation for the LAW than LAW SCHOOL as LAW SCHOOL doesn't teach you to reach English from all periods of English Law including Colonial History, Latin, etc all of which are very important LEGAL SKILLS you need to learn that law school cannot give you. Law school does not give you REAL WORLD experience. It's like buy MAKE UP thinking you bought BEAUTY.
