    As a man from the UK, it puts a smile on my face to see people from other countries trying these snacks, I'd also like to say that, because of you guys, I really want to experience the Japanese culture and even learn a little of the language, I already started my tastes of Japan through the nissin cup noodles instant ramen way, I even had 2 from their soba range, I must say that they are, well, OISHI!

      That's right, It's sponge made with ground Almonds. In the UK we dont pronounce the 'e' at the end of the word, and finally (if you're interested) Bakewell is an English town!

    I actually like marmite too. When i was studying in the UK - it was difficult to find miso and marmite kind of has a taste profile that reminds me of akamiso and dark shoyu. I would make congee and add a little bit of marmite and it tasted very good to me. I have used it in stews and incorporated it with butter and herbs to make a rub for chicken or even steak. It made eating potatoes more palatable. I also liked it the traditional way on buttered toast.

    Frangipane and marzipan are what gets mixed into the almond paste and how they're used. Frangipane is similar to pastry cream and is used in much the same way. The almond paste base is enriched with sugar, butter, and very often, eggs. ... Marzipan is an almond candy.

    Correct. Frangipan is flavoured with almonds 🙂 some very British flavours there for sure

  • @hellsop
    @hellsop 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    frangipane is custard thickened with almond flour, and should end up the consistency of thick but soft frosting or icing. marzipan is ground almonds with sugar and sometimes honey or syrup worked in, and maybe other flavors added, and should end up like stiff and dense dough, or maybe as stiff as modeling clay. So the approach being similar from opposite directions.

    This was so fun because I live in the UK and we have many of these snacks often! I even made a frangipane apple pie last night! The Marmite nuts are lovely, glad to see Japanese who have a different experience of Marmite! Normally see people introduced to raw Marmite which is not a good intro as it needs other tastes and textures to go with it (I love dipping bread with butter and Marmite into cream of tomato soup). Marmite just brought out a chunky peanut-butter and marmite spread, it is wonderful but very expensive!, you can also get Marmite pork scratchings.

    Mints are often offered as after-meal items because mint (esp. peppermint) supposedly aids in digestion, in addition to the more obvious helping reduce strong odors (garlic, onion, etc.), of course.
