Hi Kevin! Normally it's recommended to run a generator at a maximum of 75% of it's capacity (continuous). So for a 1800W generator I would recommend running it at no more than 1350W (continuously). I recommend contacting Allpowers for tech support, they may be able to walk you thru some troubleshooting steps. Didnt work for me...this is sold as an 1800watts generator on Amazon but it barely made it to 1500w before shutting down due to overpowering
